@OneAlphaAi Thanks for the kind words :) My style is constantly changing, but I have always been most interested in off the cuff tricks that require no preparation or gimmicks. When i'm in front of an audience I like to just pull out a deck and free style. The things I show depend on the size of the audience, their attention level, age, etc.

For the Ace of Spaded reveal, after I show the cards all face down, I do the gesture, and then I say "how about you deal them down this time" to make it more magical.

Also there is an underground trick where the last ace is twisted but does not turn face up but rather DISAPPEARS leaving only 3 aces and is found face-UP in the middle of the deck on table. While presenting the 4 aces, do a deep ATFUS on AS and place deck on table. Now u have the AS face up in deck and count 3 as 4 aces while each one turns up...then only 3 cards are left and bam AS if found in the deck as it's spread!

One of the reasons why I should really be learning the ELMSLEY COUNT right now...
@baldguydesign
@baldguydesign 11 лет назад
i understand what you are saying but read my post again; i am not referring to the elmsley before the second twist. i am referring to the final count to reveal the spade; the count can be straight. this will be the 5th count; by that time the scrutiny will be highest. the only reason to do another elmsley is for consistency but if your straight count and elmsley are not identical you shouldn't be performing this anyway.
@weefeatures
@weefeatures 11 лет назад
Yeah, I mean the extra count on the A of spades is like the kicker. Having to do two counts as if the A of spades is 'extra special' and 'harder to find' kinda thing, rather than finding it the same way as the other aces. I like your idea too, particularly for minimising mistakes. Personally I prefer the idea that the A of spades is different from the other cards and requires that extra move:)
@baldguydesign
@baldguydesign 12 лет назад
just a quick note to help clean up the handling; the last count doesnt need to be an elmsley and will be the last count they see. just count them straight and leave them thinking that every count was legit.

@Str8Faced
@Str8Faced 12 лет назад
This is really fun and it's helping me get my beginner chops up. However, on the last ace I just count it normally so it comes up without having to go through two "twists"
@baldguydesign
@baldguydesign 11 лет назад
you would still do the two counts and can do the extra twists. the performance would be identical up to the final count that reveals the AS. that is the one that can go straight; at that point you could even fan since you are clean at this point to reveal the final ace flip.

Thanks dude. Most of the methods ive seen are way overly complicated. Im not great at sleight of hand, but this i think i can handle.
@stevenhoog1
@stevenhoog1 11 лет назад
The reasoning behind the way he did it is psychologically sound and correct. After what looks to be a "potentially-fishy Move" (the red aces flipping) he shows that all the cards are STILL facing same way... THEN he "twists" it again and it MAGICALLY turns over. If it was done YOUR way, the last ace is EASILY explained away by that bit of "funny" business with the flipping up the red ace and EASILY reconstructed that all but the black ace was flipped. I'm not knocking you at all BTW

Here's great advice on the Elmsley you won't get anywhere else: 1. Make sure you are applying slight downwards pressure with your left hand on each switch. 2. While practicing, focus on your RIGHT hand (if you are right-handed), not your moving left hand. If you watch your right hand (keep it still) and your right thumb with each count, you WILL adjust and improve. 3. If you have extremely dry hands, start hydrating them with lotion twice a day, but never leave residue on your hands.
@NDawgHoyt
@NDawgHoyt 11 лет назад
That's actually what I've been doing since I posted that. I spin them like normal, then during the last Elmsly count I put the last card on the bottom instead and flip it. Only problem is I suck at Elmsly counts and I lose a card in the flip every now and then, but practice makes perfect.:)
@NDawgHoyt
@NDawgHoyt 11 лет назад
In a trick where flipping cards over is the magic, I decided the deck flip was a nice flourish. :p (still can't do it with a full deck, but four cards isn't too bad.)
@Razamabaz
@Razamabaz 7 лет назад
I don't pull down on the bottom card to do a triple turn over. It's easier to push the top 3 cards over as one with your thumb. I think a beginner would struggle to pull the bottom card down to prepare for the triple.
@weefeatures
@weefeatures 11 лет назад
I like that idea for handling purposes, but the A spades requiring an extra twist is kind of the kicker for the trick. Rather than doing the same thing you did on all 4 aces (as it appears to the audience) you do something extra special on the last card by twisting it twice. I think to make it more interesting.

@NDawgHoyt
@NDawgHoyt 11 лет назад
Actually it kind of works instead of spinning the cards. You'd probably have to change the ending though, and you'd have to trust the slowness of the eye in the flip before you reveal the Ace of Clubs. I might try testing that out on some people to see if they catch on there.
@weefeatures
@weefeatures 11 лет назад
Yay! I quite like doing the two counts on the A of spades, as if one count isn't enough to find the special A of spades. Thanks for your idea, my elmsley count isn't the best, so will perform your idea instead :D

Great beginners' trick; clear tutorial; thank you. Btw, I myself am just a beginner, but already I prefer to double-lift by sense of touch (after pushing off the top cards by a miniscule amount), rather than by using the awkward pinky break. Has anyone else here practised doing it my way? Thanks again.

The only problem with that is that at one point, the bottom card is face up, so you'd flash that to the audience when you did the flip. It would work as your "bigger move" for revealing the ace of spades, though.

I know how u feel guys, took me about 15 mins just to work it out. What I found is thst at the start after you've done the triple lift you take the ace of spades and put it to the back rather than in the middle then turn the whole deck over. he doesnt tell u any of this and iv just spent ages pressing replay to get the two centre cards face up
@Assassin73311
@Assassin73311 11 лет назад
That may work for some people. But other people notice even the slightest change. If you keep every count consistent it may not fool some people, but at least every count looked the same, so they aren't thinking that you changed something.

loving this effect, but isn't the last elmsly count a bit "risky"? i mean, the ace of spades is turned face up in the fourth position, so if you just counted "normally", it would be the last card of the pile, which is a bigger "finale" than when it's third (imo). Also: by doing another "unneeded" elmsly count you would get more risk of the audience catching on to it. cool trick ;)
@Moki192

I know you're not supposed to move your right hand, but I find it easier with the last two cards (the top one and the last one).

@baldguydesign
@baldguydesign 11 лет назад
the twisting is irrelevant to the count; you can twist it three times and the count still doesnt need to be an elmsley. i am pointing out that the last count doesnt need to be false, it can be counted straight and the effect will appear no differently but it will allow you to do it with one less move. the more moves you do the more chances of getting caught.

@luuminhvuong Because they're selfworking. But what's the difference between a secretly stacked deck and sleight of hand? I agree that exposure of "real tricks" is bad. But this video shows how to use the Elmsley Count. He's showing us how to use a tool. Nothing wrong with that. Selling a trick like this on the other hand is what's bad for magic. Again: Some magicians are reselling the same stuff over and over again. They profit from the work of others. Not us who learn some basics on YT
