I agree 💯% that she was struggling to ride the beat but i like that she was brave enough to be raw and honest, and for me it was decent overall. A lot of people think she should've had someone else do the singing but I disagree. It's too personal of a track to have someone else on it and with social media the way it is ,it would have created drama. I mean you guys already have people that hate Cardi in your comments trying to make everyone else hate her lol. Anyway I don't think she was trying to make a banger or chart, she just wants people to listen just like Eminem's Walk on Water. People forget that music is our biggest form of self expression and art, it's not always about making a hype or dope track. If we like the track, great, if we don't, then that track wasn't made for us. We use music to relate, communicate, learn and connect with others, we also use it as a way to vent and as therapy. Artist do what they love and put who they are into it then share it with us. And that's why I love you guys, you give honest opinions and advice. You guys don't tear artist down or drag them. Your focus is the music, talent and potential of the artist, not the popular opinion or fad. When we stop critiquing in the best interest of the art or making suggesting to an artist and start demanding and bashing an artist it takes the heart, soul and realness out of the music, that's when it stops being art and starts being a 9-5. I don't think she's been rapping very long but I hope continues to progress and grow. Hopefully this essay makes sense, I only have 15 minutes for my break lol. Love ya
I love how open and progressive your thinking is! The 9-5 analogy is sadly accurate. That's one of the reason we have so many "club-bangers" (hip-pop) that only lasts until the next single gets released. People in the future only care to hear it in the club again for nostalgia reasons.
Johny boy that's incorrect, her and Pardison Fontaine aka Jordan Thorpe worked on this song with her. He's the same person that worked with her on Bodak Yellow and is credited on both tracks. They've been working together for a long time, she's even in one of his music videos. The video that people are trying to use against her of him singing the song is only one from a collection of videos that he uploaded to his Instagram stories, the rest are studio sessions with him and Cardi. Sad thing is, this information is easily obtainable but people don't want the real, they wanna fuel the hate.
The Answer everyone that isn't a virgin is better at sex then riding the beat. That why we only have a handful of dope rappers but earths population is over 7 billion.
What i like about you guys is that you're actually real with reactions esp when it comes to trap music because some of the reactors out here on RU-vid will headbang to the point of whiplash a milli second into the song since its popular and y'all don't do that props Also I'm one of your rnb female subscribers so if you react to heaven can wait by mj (an rnb song) you'll be killing two birds with one stone 🤣
Love your reactions and your opinions on songs. The range of music on this channel is awesome. To go from a Doors song to Cardi B... nobody but you guys. Much respect
Mark Barrenechea There should be about 5000 times more dislikes seeing as that this idiot is just another in a long line of cookie cutter, no talent hacks, that pass as “music” these days. Absolute garbage.
Cardi’s charisma is infectious man. love her so much. great reaction/breakdown again fellas. Isaiah Rashad - Soliloquy and Lupe Fiasco - Body of Work are a couple of tracks I hope you all react to.
You guys took the thoughts right out of my head. I love the lyrics but the beat, production, and flow could've been better. I love Cardi and really want to see her flourish and push herself to be better. Great reaction guys.
I love you guys and your reactions so very much. I got led to your reactions by some others' videos but now you guys are my number one. The reason being u guys truly follow all the steps. Listen, comprehend, interpret, and assess. You guys don't just scream, punch each other in the arm and jump up n down when a rap artist throws a jab or a slick line. Im a huge rap fan who overall is very aware of the skill level of the artists i listen to, however I must admit that your videos ALWAYS make me appreciate a song more because you point out so many things i miss or even don't understand. Keep up the good shit.
It’s a testament to how good she is as to how she became part of the parade music to the Eagles Super Bowl parade. We’re usually so parochial, but she transcends.
She's gonna move a lot of units. This'll be a platinum hit easily because women will love it. Fun lil bop and a good lead single. I enjoy when artist lead off the album with the controversy surrounding them
Complexity of the beat don't define how sonically good it is, sometimes less is more depending on how artist flows over it and where they find the gaps to marinate it perfectly
Thanks for giving interpretations, and not just have us watch you watch the video. :) I’d love to see her perform this song again when she has mastered her craft.
I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews on this song...most people are agreeing with you guys where flow and production is concerned. I don’t have high expectations for Cardi which is probably why I’m okay with this one. It’s not her usual “turn up” type record but it’s not bad either. I think I like her personality more than I like her music though lol.. Great review guys 👍🏾
Just wanted to say I enjoy listening to you guys chat about the songs and the potential meanings you find in the lyrics. As a born and raised UK metal kid you guys have helped turn my ear to rap for the first time ever. Its refreshing to be able to get past the ideas planted in my head growing up that rap was all the same, all about money, drugs, girls and being a gangster. I know that stuff exists but its great to hear other strands and be able to respect the craft for more than its outward appearance. The lyricism and stitching it all together over beat has somehow always washed over me until i started watching you guys break it down. Props to you! Love the videos. Keep em comin!
This reminded me of freestyles over fruit loops beats back in the 90s! Liked the emotional rawness but like you guys said it needed some refinement. Definitely wasn't expecting to like a Cardi song though so pleasant surprise
I appreciate that you guys really looked into the song fairly without a bias. A lot of people dismiss it because it's different or the chorus is not vocally good or whatever but you guys caught the idea that she is talking to someone right now, which she said was the intention, so you guys are dope for that! As for the question, she's been rapping since 2015.
You dudes are so down to earth and we can all feel that. I belive thats why you resonate with us like you do. Also , loved the edit video clip of the key and peel refrence! Probably feels pretty cool that you dudes started this just as something fun to do and yet your on your way to setting the standard for this genre of youtube videos. Chuh!
Cardi spoke about this record, a lot of people commented about her flow, the singing on the chorus, etc... She wanted this track to sound like an open letter, therefore, not editing too much. She’s been working on her rapping career since 2014!
I usually really don't like reaction videos. You guys are the first channel to turn me around. Absolutely love the honesty, introspection, and the ability to get outside of your comfort zone. Figured I'd throw in a couple of suggestions in the ring: Kendrick Lamar- Untitled 8 (The Live Version from Jimmy Fallon) Lupe Fiasco- Around My Way (Freedom Ain't Free) Tech N9NE- World Wide Choppers My intuition tells me you guys would really like these songs. Best of luck, you guys deserve your success!
I would love to see a reaction to "Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb Live Pulse 1994". By far their most impressive performance! And keep going, you're the best reaction channel on RU-vid
Cardi said she didn’t want a singer on the hook, she wanted it to be raw and she did it like that for a reason. She wanted to do something different, something we wouldn’t expect from her.
Guys, she didn’t write this. She got exposed for having someone else that forgot to delete his original track which was the exact same song. She had a ghostwriter basically, she stole lyrics.
I just found your channel. You have a great selection of music reviewed. However.... why no Bob Dylan? Try any song from the Blood on the Tracks album, which I consider genius. Great job guys
I felt like there was some parts in this song that she lacking and could improve upon and better understand. Was this a good track? ehhh it had some things that were good about it but going off of her catalogue she could have put out something better. I wanna see her grow and I wanna see her win but so far she still got a ways to go. Great Reaction Lost In Vegas.
She wasn't struggling on the flow. You don't think they can correct that in the studio? They wanted it off the beat like that. This is an old school sorta beatnik Girl From Ipanema rhythm.
So many people are so ready to criticize this chick, so she has to be careful when she puts out anything. I think it was intended for this song to sound raw and actually off. Like she is drunk and high going off to one of her homegirls. You have to forget about the technicality to understand the message she is trying to deliver. this sounded like we were ease dropping on a conversation and this realness is what makes this song hot.
I agree with this outside of ''You have to forget the technicality''. All artists should ALWAYS strive to master their craft. This is the issue with the era we live in. We're not daring these artists to be great anymore and the quality of music has dropped as a result. This is not her taken a chance 'artistically' with her flow. This is her literally not being able to stay on beat. A basic fundamental in Rap.
Wow, I can't believe yall talking bout her fluidity and cadence like she doesn't have an accent anyway. Right now we are in the mumble rap era so, in my opinion she fits in perfectly.
its funny how i relate you guys to the key and peele skit cuz dude on the right be talkin, givin his opinion, breakin down the lyrics while the dude on the left be like "yup" hahaha. Anyways good insights as always, keep it up bro!
Rap/hip hop is not my genre, at all. But imma big fan of Cardi B, I can’t here the struggle within the beat. But I understand you guys know a lot more about the genre than I do. I think it sounds really good. I think her flow/style and brute honesty is what makes her popular. She literally cracks me up what she says is 100%
Cardi B isn't an artist I would normally listen to, and I have to say that, after hearing this song, it will continue to be so. I admire what she's saying. As both of you said, it is very real, very honest and very raw. But the delivery - and her voice - just doesn't do it for me. I like that George and Ryan reacted to the song - I mean, that's the whole point, isn't it? To be freethinkers and expose yourself to new genres, songs and artists. But in that process, each person will like some and won't like some. For me, this falls into the latter category. Speaking of new genres, I'd like to see you react to Lingus by Snarky Puppy. Instrumental jazz with insane keys and drumming.
So I discovered you guys today...and this is probably the 17th video I've watched in a row and I just subscribed. I think you're insight and commentary about hip hop and rock is intelligent, honest and well thought out. I appreciate that you branched out into other genres like rock. I hope you continue to branch out into rnb, pop, etc. As for a request, one of my favorite rappers of all time is Chali 2na (from Jurassic 5 but now solo). If you haven't heard of him, give him a listen. Great voice, great flow, great lyrics.
