I think a major part of the issue stems from this sort of Jungian correlation between Nicki and Cardi as rap personalities. I think Cardi represents everything that Nicki tries not to be (not a "shadow," to her, more like a "nimbo"). Who labels wanted her to be for a "come up." Nicki, however, decided to go a more polished route, and she's always had this lowkey/high-key love/hate relationship with the rap world because of it (remember the original hate train about Nicki "selling out" and going "too commercial??"). But then comes Cardi, essentially "taking the bait," feeding into the image (the industry bullshit) they initially wanted her to portray. In a sense, Nicki's "rotten leftovers." I think a lot of the "Gangsta Barbie" behavior we're seeing from Nicki (even though that's always been a part of the brand, if people really go back) is letting the rap girlies (and everybody else) know that she can indeed "revert back, if necessary." Cardi came out strong about her ties from jump, while Nicki has always been more "brand-friendly" with that side of things. I think Nick honestly doesn't like the way Cardi moves and doesn't want to be associated with that. But, if it's beef, it's beef. I can think of two things that Cardi did publicly that Nicki could've took major issue with. First, she got on Hot 97 and got to talking sideways about the beef Nicki had with Remy at the time. Perfect time to say -- "No comment." Then, later, at the BET Awards, she tried to be all "chum chummy," and expectedly unexpectedly, Nicki curved that ass. Then, Cardi went out to Dubai (to film the "BY" video, possibly among other things) and decided to get on live and try and violate, try and shit on Nick -- without mentioning any names -- but we all knew who she was talking about. More miscommunication, and here we are, damn near seven years later, still talking about this. At the core of all this, though, is this fact: Cardi will never be Nicki. Best of luck to Cardi. But I'm ready for Pink Friday 2.
