My belated tribute to this great band and the late Tim Smith. Like a lot of people I only discovered Cardiacs following Tim's death but they have since become one of my favourite bands and this is definitely a contender for their best track in my opinion, although that list is long. To purchase Cardiacs' music and merch visit their website here - www.cardiacs.net/ This track was mixed by my bandmate, Jack - ru-vid.com/show-UCZZgdvQxbGmIeGEdzFWZ-1g
In the future there will be a German compound word that describes musicians who discovered Cardiacs in lockdown, and have since been getting theirs heads blown off as they peer down the rabbit hole... Great cover by the way 🙏
@@TheProds No offence meant when I say that this is a worthy cover but not a patch on the original. Regardless, great job and you have a fantastic voice (plus great skills with the other instruments). Like you I found Cardiacs after Tims death - you really have made something worthy of the term "tribute". I salute you and again no offence meant. I really enjoyed your cover which I found after some late night listening to Cardiacs. Few could match up to the leader of the starry skies though :)
Comment misdirected our way but geez, no need for such a miserly opening statement! Just appreciate the effort Mr Parrish here spent in learning a song you admire and bothering to put together a video for us to enjoy! It's a lot of work and it's a great job. Save the backhanders! @@GetAGripPls
@@TheProdsTotally brilliant. I only vaguely remember the original. Only found Mr Parrish as I fancied listening to Holst's the planets 😂. Very glad I did 😊
I was at a cardiacs gig in the crazy house in Liverpool in the nineties with some friends. Certain substances had been imbibed. I was dancing back and forwards like a flower at the back of the crowd. Tim was amused with my styles and i caught his eye walked through the crowd and reached my hand out to him. He walked across the stage and reached down shaking my hand with a big smile on his face. I pass that handshake to you today. Thanks for reminding me of the beauty and complexity of cardiacs and this lovely hymn.
There's an incredible live version on here played by ex Cardiac members, Spratleys Japs and Mike Vennart, who does an incredible job singing it. I was there at the recording and Tim was at the side of the stage in a wheelchair. Just incredible atmosphere. People near me were in tears. Amazing night. Like you, I came to them very late.
This is a masterclass in music production and probably the finest studio cover of this song of songs I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. The personal touches you add to the composition are outstanding and if that were not enough, your vocal range is spectacular. Bravo.
Amazing. The fact you don’t have millions of subscribers is criminal. Your Rite of Spring arrangement is possibly the best thing I have heard on the internet.
This is absolutely beautiful. I’m a long-standing fan (ie. old!) of both Tull and Cardiacs and this has blown me away - incredible job Joe, thank you, Tim Kirkham.
You nailed that last bit so well. You reopened the gate to the stars with angelic purity. Love the picking. It makes me dream of a black metal version of it :D
I listened to this version - for a very first time- a few months ago. Well, I have been coming back to hear it again almost daily. Amazing job. Nothing else job to say.
Amazing! Obviously I love the original but it's great to hear how your version brings out some parts that are a little harder to hear in the original's mix.
Lifelong Cardiacs fan here since 1984. Saw Tim in all his guises well over 100 times. This is beautiful, up there with the Sterbus stuff. You are worthy of laudation
That was a great moment of music! Thank you. Discovered Cardiacs quite late too and I can't put them out of my head. Great channel too, I love your Shostakovich piece a lot.
excellent... your Rite was my intro to your profound musicality, but you continue to display a wider range, a fine vocalist too, overall mad studio skills
Joe, this is FANTASTIC. Please can I play it at my mother's funeral later this month (she's just passed away at 91)? We'll arrange for Tim'e estate to receive the royalty payment if that's ok?
My current fave listening! Bloody fantastic! Could someone confirm what that acoustic is please? Ibanez? AVN6-DTS Artwood Vintage Parlor Distressed Tobacco Sunburst?? Can't find one to buy anywhere?! Cheers.
That was masterfully done. Truly brilliant. I got a shiver up my spine when the picture of Tim came up at the end as your voice faded out. Bravo sir! A tribute worthy of the highest laudation! 👏🏻
