As a Cardiff man I feel ashamed that this is what the city had to offer, what a disgrace. The best pint of Guinness in Cardiff is down the bay in the packet pub, it’s an old skool pub that has a few characters to say the least and isn’t the most inviting place at certain times but the landlord has always poured me a good pint.
You’ve gotta go out of the city centre in Cardiff. I used to live in Roath - The George, The Cryws and The Claude always did decent pints. Granted this was 10-15 years ago, but worth a shot given the slosh you were served in town!
I have always said that the colder the beer, the less taste it has. I had a pint in a Cardiff club one night, and it was so cold, it had no taste at all. I let it sit for a while and it tasted shite.
Traditional pubs in Cardiff have been on a decline in quality for a while now. Not just Guinness, but say general selection etc. We’ve got some great craft bars and more cocktail bars showing up ever day. Pups seem neglected, people in Wales want a cheap pint, full to the brim with no head. Always been the case
A great shame because Cardiff is such a good city to go drinking in. These pubs need to up their game to pour a better Guinness. Tourists would expect nothing less than a decent pint
Feel really bad about my city watching this, however there's no hiding from the truth. Cardiff bar staff are fantastic on the whole, but they're used to serving lager on a production line. Given that the city is centred around rugby and Guinness is so synonymous with that you'd think the Guinness reps would be more focused on quality. But Cardiff on a night out is chaos, so I doubt that will change! On a personal note, man should have gone to Queen's Vaults!
Watching a man drink a shit pint of Guinness whilst I also sit in a pub drinking a shit pint of Guinness. There's something very Inception-esque about this.
Just one question: if you are at an outside venue, how do you protect the head from getting bugs in it? of course, this is if you are not drinking it as fast as recommended. I have not read the book, “voices again, “yet so I don’t know what is recommended for the drink late. Please forgive any mistakes. Dictation is Nikki in this comment as I cannot edit it.
A Welsh barman once told me with total confidence that there was ZERO difference between canned Guinness and on-draught Guiness He told me a study had concluded that people couldn’t really tell them apart I told him where I was from (Irish) and that there ABSOLUTELY was a difference
Embarrassing of Cardiff's pubs, I like Tiny Rebel beers and. Rains Gold but Cardiff seems to be all about the revenue on Match days rather than a top pint. Nothing will change as its all about the cash generation. I did however, have a very decent pint of G at The Cliff in Gwbert, Cardigan just the other day. And guess what, it wasn't "Extra Cold". Probably because it's actually closer to Ireland than it is Cardiff.
@@bananagumboot87 because you would hope sn independent than o neills. maybe it shows that oneills can be relied upon for a decent pint whether you go. O'Neills will need to be tried in every city he goes to ..
Would have said Four Elms and Queens Vaults were more worth a look than some of these but yeah there's really no *good* Guiness in Cardiff. Honestly I think in most of the UK you don't really get good Guiness in smaller places as the trendiness of a *good* Guiness hasn't really dicenminated from the big cities. The exception would be some rural pubs where you still have more of your old man Guiness drinkers. Definitely had much better pints of G in the Welsh countryside than cities.
Always good to hear your thoughtful and logical analysis. I don't care about bullish or bearish market. Trade a small percentage of your portfolio rather than going in and out every couple weeks trying to time the market trading went smooth for me as I was able to raise over 8.4 BTC when I started at 3 BTC in just few weeks implementing Richard daily signals and tips..
Hey - I've been hearing about Richard for a long time now. Started during the pandemic and I've heard of how accurate his signals is.. I really do appreciate hearing your advice and feel that it is genuine
As a Welshman this is painful to watch but unfortunately it’s an accurate reflection. I’m going to personally to take it upon myself to flog the owners of these watering holes with Leeks, until something changes.
What's the deal then ? At this stage surely everyone knows Guinness cannot be a) poured in 1 ,,,b) It has to settle before being topped off to top of glass It's very simple really
@@chrisChris6969 Not necessarily, most pubs in Cardiff the staff haven’t a clue about how to pour a tidy pint of the good stuff. I genuinely don’t think they’ve been trained properly so they just want to get the pint out asap.
@@Brainfreeze551 ,Jesus pal if that's the case I pity the Guinness drinkers of Wales I in Ireland and it can be bad sometimes , but you know yourself when it's good it's the fucking best beer in world 🤣👍
the "guru" did a blindfold test in a previous video and couldnt tell the difference between guinness and murphys so id take his results with a pinch of salt lol.
The Robin Hood in Pontcanna does a good stout. The owner is in there drinking them himself all the time, so the staff know how to pour + the lines are looked after but aye the standard is low everywhere else
I know you don't like slating a pub, but with pubs charging over £5 a pint they need calling out for not taking any pride and serving up this slop. On another note I think some better research needed, this and the b/ham vid has some proper dodgy recommendations.
Dempseys used to do a decent pint when I lived in Cardiff. Now living in Cheltenham and none of the pubs in Cheltenham and Gloucester give a flying Feck about how the Guinness is poured and presented. I have actually contacted Deageo, who own Guiness, and told them to sort it out! I have also stopped ordering Guinness this side of the water as it is a lost cause!
As a Kardiffian this is embarrassing to the city. Been a definite fall off since the start of the pandemic. My go to place for Guinness is The Old Market Tavern now Little O’Neills next to Cardiff Market.
I live in Cardiff and it makes me sad to watch this video. My favourite place for Guinness is probably The Pen and Wig but that's just where I tend to go. Flute and Tankard is decent when I miss my bus on the way home from work, and one of the seats outside are free. I've had pints in O'Neills before but at the time wasn't thinking too much about the quality. Going to make it a bit of a goal to find the best available in the city center. Hopefully have some suggestions for next time.
I usually pop to a different O'Neill's when in the office for a pint. They have extra cold and regular taps. The regular tap feels like extra cold and the extra cold tap feels like its been cooled with liquid fecking nitrogen. Have to wrap a it a napkin to drink the bastard.
@@teddelfranco9786 Hopefully some day... but it's horrendous here... No idea if there is a link to our formerly local brewer brains stopping guinness in their pubs to bring in "Brains Black" (a welsh rip off of guinness) that they just as Daragh said they sort of left us to rot. Noe Brains has been sold to Marstons and effectively killed Cardiff's brewery history and former brains pubs now starting to sell guinness again....it's almost like they forgot how. Old Arcade and City Arms were both Brains pubs.
Cardiff now just full of chain pubs catering to stags and hens First two pubs were brains /marstons pubs .lack of investment and poor management by both for years . Brains used to have proper old school pubs with good management and brewed in the town centre The last The Vulcan closed to be knocked down and replaced by high storey student flats
The only good Guinness I’ve come across in Cardiff is Barocco in the centre on Wharton Street, and the Royal Oak on Broadway. The Guinness everywhere else is only good for the drain
I'm Irish, but I studied in Cardiff many years ago. The Guiness was terrible, so terrible is switched to Brains Black. Was nicer than the Cardiff Guinness and cheaper too, but jeez I did miss a solid pint.
It’s sad when you consider Cardiff once had an entire Irish district/ghetto - Newtown, now a mess of building sites and horrible eyesore constructions- which gave birth to such people as the great boxer Big Jim Driscoll. I can’t think of a single Irish pub (not including o’neills obviously) anywhere in the city, which is surely unusual for a decent sized uk city. Still think if he’d gone further afield- say to roath - he might have found some decent pints. Brains do a decent stout- Brains Black - but not many places do it these days. Another welsh brewer, Felinfoel, used to do a really good one but I haven’t seen it in literally decades.
As an Englishman who’s had many travels and many pints in Cardiff, Brains and their beers are what I drink when I’m there. I’d drink it in England, but they don’t sell it anywhere!!!
It's embarrassing as a Welsh man that Cardiff perhaps even Swansea cannot pour a decent pint of Guinness. Brains is a lovely pint but as you say the Irish in Cardiff (tourists too) are entitled to a half decent jar.
This can happen anywhere, I have seen barmen and barwomen , who don't care enough to do what is necessary and then you get dirty glasses, almost one part pour , spilled over and you leave and go somewhere else! The inconsistencies are enough to stop someone ordering a Guinness!!!
I wish someone from Guinness would pay attention - having spent most of my life in Cardiff I am desperate for a decent pint of Guinness there! It's rarer than Hens teeth! Keep up the good work
@3.06, I have been drinking Guinness since I was 18, I'm now 69, back in the 70's if I saw a pint of Guinness with a head like that I'd leave it. I always used to look in a bar and see if anyone had a pint of Guinness and look to see what it looked like, to make sure the lines were clear and look at the condition of the pint! Then decide what I was going to order.
You always remember your first proper georgous pint of Guiness, mine was on the ferry from Fishgaurd to Roslaire (not kidding).. It was like ice cream. Never had one like it (had about 6) before or since. When it dips from perfection though it isn't a great time.
Guinness in Cardiff isn’t great, but it seems that you had the worst of the worst …. There are definitely better pints of Guinness to be had in Cardiff than those absolute shit shows
@@stuartball913 The Lansdowne, Robin Hood, Queens Vault to name just a few - don’t get me wrong, they aren’t at the same level as Ireland, but they aren’t anywhere near as bad as some of these
