Excellent! I was a dumb arse and bought a Sena 10C Pro when they first came out. Had 2 units which both took a $hit. Cardo all the way baby!!! Let's Go Brandon!
Good vid Bruce. Cardo systems rock. You missed one of the big improvements - no pop up antenna….have bother packtalk bold and sena sc2 and packtalk is wayyyy easier to use. Will look at edge now I saw your discount code. Ride safe.
Seems like the best way to get a company to make something new is for me to buy one. I bought two Packtalk blacks last year for me and the Mrs. and we love em. They were a little glitchy at first but the latest update fixed it right up. Great vid brother. I’m interested to hear how much better they are.
I always get beard envy watching your channel Bruce :) It's nice to see half decent speakers, I like my Jazz Funk crisp while I ride 😀 Looking forward to your tour. Ride safe.
@@thetessellater9163 Sometimes yeah :) Ozric tentacles too on a longer ride, but usually a 3hr mix does the trick, not sure of many names but Herbie Hancock remixes are a safe bet. :)
Looks cool, After a chat with Cardo I have found it is compatible with the other packtalks but the Edge needs to be admin of the group and it will Automatically downgrade its connection to the 1st generation DMC. So you might not see an improvement of the connection unless only connected to other Edge units.
They certainly look good. We've got the Packtalk Bold and have to say we've been a bit underwhelmed by their clarity and distance performance compared to our former Interphone coms. Hopefully these are better, look forward to your full review. A bigger gripe of mine is helmet manufacturers preping their helmets for their own coms or like Shoei, a particular Sena model. Both the GT Airv2 and their touring flip front do it and it makes it hard to fit the Cardo unit where you want it on the side.
I bought the Interphone Intertour series before I bought the Pactalk, and I thought it was horrendous! Sound was terrible and I basically had to be sat next to someone otherwise the connection constantly stopped. The Cardo has been by far the best Comms unit I’ve tried so far, but now I’ve got the Edge the sound is definitely clearer and louder. Connection to my phone is pretty much instant as soon as you switch it on, but not tried using it connected to other units whilst out riding yet. Interestingly enough, apparently the new DMC 2 only works when you connect edge unit to edge unit. If you connect an Edge to Pactalk it will revert back to the original DMC 1 connection🤦♂️
@@teapotone Interesting, if the unit is definitely better we may be in the market to upgrade. Most important for us is its got to last a long days riding one one charge and hopefully not randomly keep turning the radio on. If you heading out to Slovenia say hi to Joy and Martin from Carol and Richard Thanks for getting back to us. Cheers
Got a ruroc 4.0 fenrir with com system for long distance riding, but picking up a shoie ex zero this week, and looking for a system and thinking this will be the system i want for what im doing, seems pretty straight forward
Great info thanks. I use the Smartpacks daily for instructing for 8+ hours a day, and to date they have been extremely reliable. But I'm always on the lookout for what to do when mine finally give up the ghost, as they have all been soldered back together more than once already! Looking forward to the full review, especially battery life and connectivity from bike to bike, hopefully it will live up to their promises. Great channel ☺️
@@thetessellater9163 for sure I understand why it's the price it is, plus everything has just gone up in leaps and bounds in the UK recently (and the world). It's no doubt a great piece of tech, but I'm not ready to upgrade just yet.
If you’ve got the Pactalk, personally I wouldn’t upgrade until you need a new unit. Everything is better with the Edge, everything - but the Pactalk is a great unit and does the job very well 👍
Good video Teapot! I’ve had mine a few weeks now and have done a 5 day tour using it. I find it connects to my BMW TFT better than the Bold and the DMC comms are far clearer.
In the review vid can you do a piece on how you record voice solo and then when in a group and everyone’s voice please. Awesome content. Defo a nice looking bit of kit. Now to persuade my pals to buy also 😂
Thanks Bruce, I'm looking at getting something like this but always nervous of the words "brand new & industry leading". The install video was useful and it will be interesting to see if you swear by it or at it, after testing. I like the absence of unexplained product loyalty in your videos and despite being old, I do listen to what you have to say. I've no idea about battery life of these or if you have a solar charging panel on top of the Shoei lid 😂
Thanks for the great review TeapotOne. Please can I ask if you have any tips on positioning the microphone? I have watched so many of your vids and think the sound is great. Many thanks.
My HJC RPHA has cutouts for speakers but even so, I returned a Cardo as the speakers rubbed my ears to the point they were sore. And by no means am I a Prince Charles or Gary Linekar impersonator...
i have the packtalk bold as much a i love it the quoted range is just total fantasy in any conditions 150-200 meters is the max i ever get i bet its just the same on this new model
Really? That’s not good bud, I get a lot more than that, but it’s generally line of sight - if anything gets in between you then the connection can suffer for sure
Been thinking about getting one for a long time. However I don't trust myself as I need to be 100% switched on for what's happening around me and calls or music would be to much of a distraction 🤔 🤣
I talk about and use the Cardo’s in just about every single video I do that involves any other riders in the group. Not sure what else you need me to say?
@@teapotonedidn’t know that, this was the first video of yours that I saw and searched for a follow up video and didn’t see one, so I tried to make a funny comment about it. : )
@x_Heffe_X Ah ok, gotcha. If there’s a need to do a more comprehensive review then I’ll do one, but I’m not sure there’s much else I can say other than they’re the best all-round Comms available currently. The fact they’re fully waterproof takes them above the Sena, I still can’t understand why they haven’t made theirs waterproof yet?
@@teapotone based on your video (as well as a number of others I watched) I ordered a set last night to replace my old cardo scala rider g9x that I’ve had for the past 10 years. Appreciate the replies and I’ll be watching more of your vids!
I recently brought a Viper integrated system which sorry to say is crap. It basically does not recognise my voice on command when the bike is running (Ridiculous)Now wishing I'd gone down this route?🤷
I have the Bold and I’ve had great success with it. But after 3 years the battery will only hold a charge for 3 hours. I took it upon myself to solder in a new battery. And here is where my biggest complaint with Cardo lies. They could simply add a tiny plug to the battery and make the process so much easier. I wonder how many people toss their units because the battery has become degraded. Soldering a new battery is tricky however I got lucky this time around.
It’s business - why would they make a product that is easy to manually update as a consumer? It makes business sense for them to keep it all concealed and force the consumer to just buy a new unit very 3-5yrs, almost all manufacturers of every product do this these days
At least with an iPhone you can take it to your corner shop and have them install a battery. There is no such options for a Cardo owner unless you’re handy. While I understand their business model I don’t have to like it. Good review, I enjoy your channel.
I just installed this new Cardo Duo our new helmets. Everything is great except for a very, very irritating voice delay. The intercom voice delay is about 2 seconds. Talking to my passenger is almost unusable. There should be some way to correct this.
Thanks for the comprehensive video! I recently purchased the exact model, however, I'm having issues with the mic it doesn't work for some reason, updated to the last software and everything but still no luck. Any idea why this might be happening?
I had to take the speakers out & use earbuds once I got Over 40mph couldn't hear a thing & it's a pain in the arse trying to get my lid on without the buds coming out & trying to tuck the wire away so hopefully these speakers will be better.
Since you welcome question, I got one. I always wonder if I get one of these dual units, and then get my wife to connect one unit to connect to her car’s Bluetooth system and then can we freely communicate whilst on my bike with another unit. Can we also listen to music normally while connected? Don’t want her to wear a special headphone with mic and all, just a normal connection to car’s speaker and mic connection with Bluetooth. I wonder if you have some experience and thoughts :)
Good vid Bruce. I’d be interested to know if it’s any better with the BMW TFT than the bold. Can you adjust the volume with the bikes wonder wheel on the edge.
I'm pressing the wheel down like the instructions tell me to to turn this thing off and when I press the wheel down nothing happens the green light just keeps flashing. Please tell me how to turn this off. I'd really appreciate the help.
I've never really been that impressed by Cardo, but then I personally haven't had one for longterm use. I've only ever used Sena and a relatively recent swap to the Interphone UCom, which is my favourite intercom I've ever handled. I would be interested in giving one of the newer gen Cardos a go, especially since it's the preferred comms for my IAM group
Was a sena user for the past 8 years. Went to Cardo and they are far better in every way. Needless to say i sold ALL my Sena’s and dont see me going back
Fantastic presentation of the new unit Bruce. Would you be able to find out if the new unit will sync with the older unit please?….i need a new one but maybe my friends will stick with the older ones. Many thanks big man and ride well and safe.
Yes the Edge will pair easily with the Pactalk Bold, BUT it’s reverts back to DMC 1.0 and not the new DMC 2.0. Only Edge to Edge units will pair with the new DMC 2.0 technology. That said, DMC 1.0 is pretty damn good anyway 👍
Great review lad…. I have the G9x (If it’s not broke why fix 🤔🤣)…. But looking to upgrade to something a bit more “Pack” friendly.. looks like the Edge hands down.. 👍……🥃🏴
I bought the same. Have the same helmet SHOEI Hornet ADV. And I don’t hear anything on speed after 90 kmph. Do you experience the same or I did wrong something?
No not yet, wanted to use it properly first - I hate when folk do reviews on kit they’ve hardly touched🤦♂️ I still haven’t used it just Edge paired to Edge, but am away next week with someone who has one so will test it, and then I can do a full review 👍
Ok so how daft am I being? Im using the link provided, I’m selecting the unit, enter my details and get to entering credit card details….yet if I do that the next button is ‘ordered’ …..where do I get put in my Teapotone code?
Hi Bruce it looks a nice little unit, like you I have a 1250 GS ADV with a Navigator 6, I find which ever comm's unit I use the sound quality from the Nav 6 is bloody awful, just wondered if you have the same issue or you just use your phone all the time ?
Hello bud, no I just use my phone all the time for navigating as I use the Calimoto app. Either way I always turn the voice navigation off as I can’t stand it telling me what to do 😬🤦♂️🤣
100% - I use it every time I’m in the bike, either to listen to music/podcasts or for chatting in group Comms. Battery lasts all day even with 15 people connected on the Comms, it’s louder, clearer, starts up and connects faster, great bit of kit. Only issues I can see is the voice recognition - if you have that activated then it will often turn the radio on or call someone mid conversation on the Comms. (I switch it off)
@@teapotone thanks for the quick reply and honest feedback. As these are expensive units. I have the Sena SRL2 in a Shoei GT Air II and it is garbage. The helmet is fairly noisy, they reckon they are quite lol. So the speakers are average at best.
Good vid thanks Bruce. Quick question, do you think the speakers with this would work in a helmet with no depressions for the speakers? My helmet doesn't have the cut aways for speakers so i wasn't sure if it would work.
Yes mate they’ll work fine. You just use the 3M Velcro pads to stick inside your lid where your ears are, then attach the speakers - job done. Very easy 👍
I only bought the packtalk black days before the release of this 🤦♂️ Although have to say cheapest I’ve seen it is around the €390 mark so an extra €100 over what I paid. Just on the self healing, does the packtalk not do that anyway? I was under the impression that if some riders lost range with the group that soon as they were back in range they would automatically be reconnected again? Bit confused over that bit!
Yes the Pactalk does that too - the Edge uses an new and improved DMC 2 technology, making connection quicker, stronger and clearer - allegedly. However this only works when connecting Edge unit to Edge unit, if you connect Edge to Pactalk then it reverts to DMC 1. Tbh if you’ve got the Pactalk I wouldn’t rush to upgrade👍
how to sound when compared to Packtalk Black and Edge/NEO is it the same?. Because the speaker is Black 45mm while the Edge/Neo is 40mm. I'm confused about choosing Packtalk Black or Edge
Yes bud, the Edge will connect to Pactalk units via DMC, but it’s the original version of DMC, not the new DMC 2.0 which is only available connecting Edge to Edge units. The Edge will connect to Pactalks via DMC 1.0 and will also connect via Bluetooth to other Comms, works a treat 👍
@@teapotone top man thank you, such a quick reply 😃. Need to decide do I go for a bold or edge, have a slim however the charging port has just broke and I’m off to Scotland next week so need to sort something quick 🤦🏻♂️
If it was my own money, then I’d go for the Edge personally. Sound is better Startup is faster Connection is quicker and seems to be stronger Not found any negatives as yet, apart from price 👍
No I’m afraid not - but of a ‘Windows abs Apple’ thing going on there and they won’t talk to each other sadly. Cardo Mesh will only connect to Cardo mesh, same with Sena 🤷♂️🤦♂️
@@teapotone Shame; all of my group went with Sena. The faff with Bluetooth was a right pain until mesh came along (is a joy to just press a button and it works) but would be so good if they all played nice.
Would you say this is overkill if I got the duel for my misses and I? Are there any other duel sets you can recommend? I do listen to music and podcasts a lot and my misses doesn't ride with me too much tbh I've currently got a Sena 20S that 've had for years but would like to upgrade.
Great video, thanks! Want to buy one and use your code. The Cardo website says no dealer in UK and don't want to ship it overseas. Where should I buy? Thanks
If you’re Uk then I’d just buy from the SportsbikeShop, it’ll be cheaper as you won’t get stung for import duty or shipping. My code only works via Cardo direct sadly
Yes the Pactalk and edge will connect via DMC, but the edge will revert to DMC 1.0 when connecting to a Pactalk. It’ll only use DMC 2.0 when connecting to other Edge units
Does the duo pack come with separate cables to charge them? I was hoping to save a couple bucks on buying for me and a friend.....but if there's gonna be an issue with charging then it's a no can do...😔 If it's simply a matter of grabbing an extra cable, then 👍
Watch this vid by The Likeable Rider and do everything as Shaun does it. Works a charm ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-seOySwhiTPs.html
It only allows me to choose a single bluetooth connection. Or phone or motorcycle. Therefore, I connect only to the motorcycle and cannot use the application. I hope they can fix it. I have bmw 850gs ang samsung s22 ultra. Best regards
@@teapotone Thank you for helping. The problem is another. I connect the cardo edge to the phone in phone one mode. Then I connect the motorcycle to the motorcycle in motorcycle mode. And the problem is... that the cardo edge disconnects from the phone. It is only connected to the motorcycle.
I'm on my second freecom 2. The first one flew off. If you touch it in the wrong place with your gloved finger, then it's gone. One touch ejection system really isn't necessary. For something that maybe going 180 mph (not me), I wouldn't like this hitting me. All those who will say their's has be fine - I'm yawning in advance 😂✊💦
Informative vid fella, many thanks. Tried to buy one & couldn’t get your discount code to work though… “Sorry, this promo code is not applicable to selected products”. Keep up the good work!
This tutorial craps all over the Cardo one. They should pay you royalties because their tutorial was useless to me. So much better seeing a human being actually demonstrate the installation. No, it wasn't rocket science, but I just felt a little better after dropping $600 AUD to make sure I was installing it correctly.
I bought the Cardo freecom 2 dual pack. Sound was good between riders but I found I couldn't conect to the tft because it would just cause issues with the other rider . Cardo advised me to buy packtalk bold. I bought the slim version. My units must be faulty because I refuse to believe they can be this bad. Pairing was a nitemare, constantly saying, Helllo, hello? Can you here me? When they were paired I could barely hear the other rider, when at motorway speeds, nothing. Then even at slow speeds I could barely hear the other rider and he could not hear me at all. Said he was also getting interference and sometimes felt like radio static. I bought this so I could connect to the bmw tft and hear my phone ect. The old Freecom 2 was better. I can't understand this. Also the Cardo app couldn't find any units even though they were on and connected. I took these on the North Coast 500 and they failed miserably. We'd try each day, to see if they'd work but going through the pairing ritual was ruining our minds. We just never bothered with them in the end. They just ruin the rider experience. Another thing is, the helmet speakers go nowhere near my ears, I have the Hjc Rpha 11, the location for the speakers are nowhere near my ears but this was true or the Freecom 2. Cardo should make in ear speakers because all helmets and heads are different. I don't know what to do now. I'm sending these back as they are not fit for purpose. I may try BMWs own helmet communication systems, they should at least conect to their systems and be able to talk to another rider. I swear I could buy cheap Chinese Crap from alibaba that would be better that these. I paid £380 for two of these simply to talk to a friend. I could make something work better that these myself.
Cardo Edge is a huge disappointment. Edge cannot join a DMC intercom group created with a Cardo Packtalk like Bold. The only way to connect with other Packtalk units is if the Edge user creates the group. The DMC2 is a total failure since many people still ride with Bold and other older units, if there is a Bold in the intercom group Edge will still use DMC1 to communicate. Cardo is marketing Edge as fully compatible with all DMC products. I would certainly not call this fully compatible, maybe semi compatible. Cardo support says this is the way it is supposed to work and does not seem to be bothered. Unless Cardo fixes this major problem I am selling my Edge and getting a used Bold instead.
That’s a tad over dramatic don’t you think? It’s correct that an Edge unit will revert to DMC 1.0 if connected to a Pactalk Bold unit, and yes the Edge must be the master unit - but it’s hardly a failure. Sound is improved, connection speed, quality and distance is improved, battery life is longer as is usability. Certainly not a failure by any means.
