CARE TIPS & TRIM HUGE OVERGROWN ALOE VERA - also how I use Aloe Vera daily!

GROW SOMETHING GREEN

Of all the plants in the garden, the aloe vera is the one I paid the least attention to. And surprisingly it is now the biggest and most thriving one too.
How did that happen?
It goes to show that an aloe really can thrive in a very minimal set up. Our mistake is showering it with too much love - of water and constant fertilizer feed. They are happy with much less.
Watch on this video to find out how I cared for this massive aloe vera plant. And a little bonus at the end, of how I use my aloe vera at home on a daily basis.
Enjoy!

I'm at stage of meant to repot but she flowered twice. I've now repotted removed lower sems straightened turned as ihad to tie last flower down As was so tall lol a d she developed a lean. But after watching this I could remove some of her root ball as just slightly softened it put it bk in she pot but it's no lower so now looks like has,a trunk 😅
@billmellater
@billmellater 2 месяца назад
My aloes have been neglected for years. One has dozens of babies and the other is growing like a vine with the trunk extending out of the pot about 10 inches before there are any leaves. The babies I can repot but I don’t know what to do with the one with the extended trunk. Beyond the bare trunk of 10 inches or more it’s healthy. Can the trunk be cut within the 10 inches and replanted? I’m assuming the bare cut trunk left with the root will start to grow again. It’s the top I cut off without the root I worry about.

Oh dear but to be honest I have not encountered a situation like that! But i recalled seeing some aloes before with scratch and cuts instead of holes...and I think the surface just dries up. It will probably just be cosmetically challenged...should not cause any issues to the plant i hope... Fingers crossed!

Hi there! I followed your advice and took the bottom most aloe leaves off, but now the steam part is very long and no longer fits in the pot. Have you had this problem? I hope my explanation makes sense haha, I can take a photo and show you if that is easier. Thank you🙂
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday 3 года назад
Hi do you mean the core middle leaves are growing really tall? Aloes do grow very big :) . With the bottom leaves removed..the existing leaves on the plant should continue to open up whilst the middle/core continues to grow new leaf. If the plant is very big you may hve to help support the plant so it wjll stand upright..
@catchapman6157
@catchapman6157 3 года назад
I have the same issue. The stem (root) and leaves altogether are too tall to stand up in my pot even after trimming of the bottom 4 stems. I'm wondering if I can trim the very bottom of the root off without killing it?

I needed this! Mine currently has a huge long root and it's falling over. I have no clue what to do with it and there are a ton of baby aloes growing all around it! Should I replant the baby plants into other pots ?
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday Год назад
Yes they do grow babies from roots. Gently move them out to new pots if you plan to keep them and start new plants. For the big ones they do need support to stand upright. Usually i will remove the bottom blades and keep the center ones to continue growing

May I ask how you use your aloe in your drinks please? Thank you :)
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday 3 года назад
Hi! For juices..what I had done previously was first clean them out.. (ensure u soak and wash off all the slime first)..dice them into small cubes then add them into drinks. But however from experience some ppl may not like the aloe rawness ..so alternatively..you may want precook/boil the aloe. It will be less raw and more palatable to add into smoothies or drinks or yoghurt :)

If you were going to fertilize it what is something safe you can use if you want to use the aloe orally?
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday

I use humus fertilizer for all my leafy greens including vegetables. They are organic. I suppose any other organic fertilizer options are ok too ya. Compost would be great too

Hello, how often do you trim your aloe vera?
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday 3 года назад
Hi there! I don't have a trim schedule but when I see the blades stretch or if i need to keep the blades away from other plants I will trim. Usually i will pull off the bottom blades first and let the core to open up. Over time you may also see babies growing out from the mother plant roots..if you want to keep those then pick them out and pot them. :) honestly I neglect my Aloe a lot

Do pups ever pop out? You should let them grow, without the stones above the soil
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday

Yes typically pups will grow out from below. In this case it doesn't as I like this plant to be a feature plant. Others are sprouting pups :)

@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday 3 года назад
hi! it is big... and it's getting hard to handle actually. My father gave it to me when it was just a small pup so I don't know which variety this is. The blades are thick and fat, and there are no spots or markings on the leaves. I read that the aloes without spots are generally categorized as the edible type of aloes..

My aloe plant has black spot ,what can I do
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday 3 года назад
Hi!! Am not sure what it could be but just my guess either its some rot, rust or fungal matter. Anyhow do check if the plant roots are okay.. n tht your soil shld be as dry as possible. If plant roots are ok the plant shld be alright :) but remove all the affected blades (those with the blacks) cut down watering on leaves and ensure plant gets good sun and air ventilation.
