Hello, I recently filmed another video all about Biomedical Engineering: Content, Pros, Cons, Job Prospects, check it out here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5NkS4b7pX-o.html
Dear rachel why didn't I got to have beautiful girl like you when I was doing biomedical eng. I had just one girl who was ugly and had side burns. you could have been my girlfriend
This was the most wholesome video about biomedical engineering I found!! Yes, talking about salaries is very important, because even though you want to work what you love, you also want to live off of it. Thanks a lot and this was very helpful! You need to get more views and subscribers!!!!! ❣️❣️❣️
Hello! Thank you for the support on this video. I am planning on filming another BME video so if you have any questions for me related to the degree please reply to this comment with them!
Thank you so much, that was very helpful. Yes if you could do more BME videos it will be great. I have a question about the training, Does NHS or other private companies make training for BM Engineers because I am thinking to be a field service Engineer and I have no related experience? Also which is easier to apply, a job role with NHS or with a private companies? I really appreciate your assistance, thanks a lot
@@sammanager6266 Hi Sam, thanks for your question, sorry for the late response. Do you have a prior engineering degree? I believe for field service engineers you would be employed by the company itself and work in various hospitals providing training and maintaining a specific line of equipment from the company you work for. A similar role would be a clinical technologist working in medical equipment management where you would work in one hospital and maintain a whole bunch of equipment across that hospital. In each of these roles you would get training through your employers and I don't know you would be expected to have specific experience with the devices. I would say you make me able to earn more in a quicker time by working with a private company! I just posted my new video about BME so watch that if you're interesting in learning more about the degree!
@@racheljacksonnn Thanks a lot for your advice Yes I have a bachelor degree in medical engineering and soon I will finish my master degree in project management To be honest with you I feel that I am a little bit lost , because I don’t know should I seek project management jobs or BME jobs! Yes, definitely I will watch your new video.
This is such a useful video!💯. Im currently a BME student and I was at first confused as to what are the potential jobs that are available for biomedical engineering and this video was defo very informative. Can you please do a more in depth video on your job as it seems quite interesting.
@@amowuw9467 hey I just finished my 1st yr in BME and I can say that it’s not too bad and insanely hard but if you enjoy maths I think it’s fine. Feel free to check out my RU-vid channel i have a video related to BME xx
Im a Registered Dietitian, am considering getting a second degree in BME. Would my career experience as a Dietitian set me apart for this field as I would have good knowledge of the human body?
Amazing content , you explained things very clearly, I have a question though From what I hear from people is that biomedical engineering is a very diverse field and you can even become a software engineer at a top company if you have good programming skills , but other majors like cs restricts you to the software industry, so from what I think is getting a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering can open doors to all industries and then you can choose wherever you want to go be it fields related to CS or core BME, what's your take on this?
Hi Kush, sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I agree with you, I have friends from university in bee degree who are now working in software engineering roles! I am surprised this is not the case for CS too however.
those salaries arent that high imo, in Southern California, in 2-3 years work experience you can make 80-90k easily, but I personally have issue getting into a position as a naturalized immigrant.
Hi, Thank you for making this video :) I am considering studying Biomedical engineering at University (In Scotland) because I am very interested in science, the human body, biochemistry, physics and engineering, so I think it would be a good fit. However I am colour blind (reds and greens). Although my colour blindness is not very severe, I do not do well with colour blind tests and vision assessments. I was wondering if you would know if I would get employed as a biomedical engineer if I am colour blind (I have heard that electrical engineering and chemical engineering are very strict about colour vision) Would you know if it would hold me back, making biomedical engineering not a great field for me to pursue. In your experience have you found colour blind people to be turned away from jobs or further study, or would it not matter that much? Thank you so much - Cian :)
Hi Cian! Thank you for watching! I do not think that would be an issue, and it definitely shouldn't be a reason for employers not to employ you as that would be discriminating.
Thank you for the detailed video. When i searched for jobs on the Nhs job site and the uk gov job site or even indeed, i hardly found any jobs for bme graduates. Is this true that there are very less jobs for bme graduates ?
I think the jobs are only posted at very specific times, look at nshcs.hee.nhs.uk/programmes/stp/ for more information on becoming a Clinical Scientist in NHS.
Thank you a lot for your very detailed research I have not seen someone create such a video on BME. I’m going to start BME and have been searching on the internet about it. However I stumbled upon a person talking about how he found it hard to find a job on BME. Would you find that true? Best of regards
Aww thanks your your lovely comment ☺️ I think it kind of depends. A few of my uni friends moved in order to get jobs but I don’t think that’s very unusual. I think you have to be willing to apply for things that may not explicitly say BME!! And also be organised with applications because a lot of bigger companies have pretty early closing dates for vacancies which will pass by very quickly if you’re not prepared. Feel free to ask any more questions 🥰
Hello, how difficult is it to find a job as a BME I’m just nervous about finding a job since I’ve heard a few things about it being hard to find a job with this degree. I’m super interested in finding a job in this field
Hi Faith, sorry I hadn't replied to your comment. I think it might be slightly harder than other, more well-known engineering degrees, e.g. mechanical or electrical, but you just have to have an awareness of what jobs are out there and how your skill set can be applied.
Hi Chloe, thanks so much for watching! I would wait until you start and the different classes/lecturers will have suggestions of recommended reading! Good luck :)
Great video! Can you pls tell me BME or BMS which is the best degree among the two? For which one there’s more employment opportunities in UK ? Pls reply if possible😊
Hi Chiara thanks for watching!! I think they are very different degrees. Biomedical sciences is involves a lot for biology like biochemistry, immunology, microbiology etc. Whereas BME has a little bit of biology but then engineering as well. I do not know about job prospects for BMS but I think it would involve a lab-based job ☺️ but not sure if there are more or less opportunities unfortunately!
Hello, I want to apply for the STP program, however, I am confused how many options I have in the STP as a biomedical engineer graduate. Can I apply for a a science field or the specialisation is only for clinical engineering. I AM VERY CONFUSED.
Hi Raisa, sorry the late response. You should be able to apply for both but may be more likely to get into clinical engineering due to your experience more your degree!
hi rachel thank you for this video! may i ask do you have any work experience u recommend for high school students in the uk? i just turned 16 and i am inn 6th form so its quite hard to find a work experience atm, do u have any recommendations?
Hello! Thanks for watching 💕 I would probably recommend generic work experience like volunteering with community groups, maybe any open days at hospitals to get an idea of different areas of medicine?
Hi! I’m applying to study BME at university but my maths isn’t the best. I’m going to practise it more this summer. Would you say the maths in the degree is difficult or doable?
Hey Sara! Thanks for watching :) I think as part of your first couple years you will do maths modules which will probably be a revision of what you have already done which will probably be useful for you. I really don't think you have to be amazing at maths in order to do well in the degree.
Thanks for the instant reply Rechel. It's so nice of you. I have some more questions too: aren't there much job opportunities after completing a biomedical degree? Do biomedical engineers get a low salary?
I think it can depend on a number of factors e.g. where you are based/willing to travel to work? From my experience and people I went to uni with, the salaries are good.
Hi Kavya! Thank you for watching! I am not 100% sure, I think you would have to do your own research on that but I would look out for ones which are accredited by an engineering body i.e. IPEM.
Hi, thanks for this great video I want to ask if medical Engineering is a regulated job in the UK? Also, do you have to register with Professional Body such as syndicate or any other Association? as I have an overseas degree in Biomedical engineering & I want to move to the UK
Hello Sam! As far as I know it is not you do not have to register with a professional body. You may want to later in your job to help with development but it is not a necessity.
Hi Rachel, very well explained ... couldn't find as much info on the internet as I did here... I got offers in both biomedical science and biomedical engineering. wasn't sure about future career prospects of either degree, however, I quite enjoy stem subjects BIOchemPHysics. would it be possible to work as a college or secondary school teacher as a backup plan? with BMEng. also absolutely love the healthcare sector, + I like to try as many things as a paramedic, an ANP, teaching and a scientist. and is BMEng registered as CHPC? and do you have to do clinical years without pay to be an accredited biomedical engineer?
Hi Shahid, thank you for watching. I'm glad I could be of assistance! You could of course go into teaching following engineering, you would have an extensive understanding of a number of sciences. In the UK there is a Scientist Training Programme to become a clinical scientist, this takes around 3 years and from there you would become a HCPC registered clinical scientist.
Actually I'm a BME final year student and I would like to do my jobs in European countries. Can you please tell me about the experience year and things needed to do BME jobs in European countries. If you reply it will be a great for my future. (ps. I'm from india)
Hi Charutha! Thanks for watching. I expect a BME degree in India will be very transferable to the UK. I would apply for internships etc if possible and it will give you different types of experience.
I got acceptance from ulster university Northern Ireland Please do advice me about scope of bio medical engineering program in uk for international students
I think it can be difficult but if you are willing to potentially change location there is potential. All my university friends got jobs following undergrad degree but that was pre-Covid.
Hi Elizabeth, I think in Scotland the opportunities in industry are slightly less than in England for example, but there are some medical device companies and start ups based in Scotland.
Hi Nimasha, thanks for commenting. The field is so vast that I don’t think I can comment as I may not be informed! In my line of work I have never came across this.
If you go into the video description and scroll down there is a transcription that is accurate. The closed caption subtitles also appear to be accurate for me on the video itself for English? If you slow down the speed of the video it might help with my accent.
Hello there, I am going to get graduated from Tissue Engineering and Biomaterials from University College London and I do not know how to apply and get an interview since I just got rejected from the things I applied 🥹 btw you are very beautiful
