In this video I try my hand at plumbing for the first time. I install the fresh water system, which includes a tank, fill lines and a pump, along with a bunch of plumbing.
This video is part of my Cargo Trailer to Camper Conversion project. I'm no professional, so I'm sharing my progress and my lessons. Feel free to follow along!

I thought about doing a cargo trailer conversion and bought a 7x14 dual axle but i live in the northeast not many places that i know of you can legally park and stay in these at least not in the winter. This is more for people who live it the midwest or western states. So for now i'm just turning it into a workshop

Hey you dont cut square holes in walls of campers, the 90 degree angle corner will allow cracks to start ... not for you but in 5 or 10 years with the next owner. Use a drill bit 10mm or more, drill a hole in each corner to leave a rounded corner

Keeping the city water and large fill line seperate makes it possible to fill the tank from water jugs if necessary.

Tip, make an Amazon account and add the parts you buy for these videos to it. You can not only help people like me buy the same things but you're missing out on free money. You get a %'age of every thing someone buys through your link!

So you installed your water lines on the exterior wall with nothing but a thin sheet of aluminum between them and freezing temperatures, even if I wasn't a former contractor that would seem problematic 🤔 frozen lines are in your future.

Very nice made as well! But you don´t wanna use your van in the winter with freezing temperatures? Because this needs an insulation of the tubes in the wall. ;-)

I’m converting my cargo trailer to a camper. I will always be using shore hookups. NEVER BOONDOCKING. Just staying in campgrounds. I just want water going to a kitchen sink. I want to keep it as simple as possible. Can I just install a water inlet on the outside of my trailer and run a direct line to kitchen sink?

Where did you buy your 1-1/4"fill hose? Thanks
@hotwheelsand164scaledioram5
Why would you drill through 1” structural tubing? It’s literally holding the trailer together.
@michaelallen2360
@michaelallen2360 Год назад
Why did you put The water hookup panel so high? I'm asking because I don't know, not throwing shade. If I had to guess I would think that you would want the outside hookup panel to be lower to the ground cause less stress on you know a water hose sticking out of the top so high up.
@michaelvonwahlde
@michaelvonwahlde Год назад
Because there is a vent there and that vent needs to be higher than the inlet to avoid sloshing.

Where is the best place to put the fresh water tank and how big of a water tank is recommended????
@larrysharp6995
@larrysharp6995 3 года назад
Does the pump have a check valve so the water will not flow thru it and overflow the tank when you use city water. The white PVC flexible pipe you used in the beginning are for glue joints for whirlpools and spas and not for clamps.
@befreebuilds
@befreebuilds 3 года назад
Yeah the pump has a check valve built in. That hose was the only thing I could find locally, but I should have just bought the right part online in the first place.

My question is probably obvious to many but when I got the water tank all of these holes on the tank such as the water line etc. were not opened do you have to drill it to make it open or how?
@viewoftheaskew

They gave to add the fittings at the factory usually. The tank I got was available with and without fittings.

Not sure about having the water lines in the wall, they would get cold and or burst in the winter, no way to access them

My only question is why would you put plumbing lines behind a wall ? To me the what if would cross my mind like, if you need to access your pipes how are you going to do that now that they're behind a wall if there was any leaks or damages you'd have to the whole wall down wouldn't you?
@befreebuilds
@befreebuilds 3 года назад
Yeah I really wish there was a better option to route those lines. I'd prefer them to be accessible, but this was the only easy way. Hopefully I don't regret it!
@ceciliachan4361
@ceciliachan4361 3 года назад
Couldn’t agree more. Anyone who has hauled a trailer knows that there’s insane amount of rumbling back there. Those lines will be destroyed inside a wall and buried in metal braces. All my plumbing and electrical are all accessible in my trailer in case of a leak or a short.

@@befreebuilds Running the PEX lines through holes in the metal studs is a little concerning, especially considering how much vibration there will be as you go down the road. Did you use rubber grommets, or anything to prevent the metal from rubbing a hole through the pipes?

You definitely are a newbie, how do you think the pipe in your home are run? In the walls! Makes no difference to do it in a camper as long as you do it the right way.
@calvinlc
@calvinlc 2 дня назад
@Adamthebuilder but to be fair it looks like he drilled 1/2 inch + holes in 1 inch hollow tubing. That's a lot. And now the lines are in the exterior wall with next to no insulation. Hope he's not planning on using it in freezing temps.
