@@gavienocampbell8595 Yep. Or don't tell them who's meal they're eating, so they don't know if it's their own or another persons'. That way they can give honest answers dawg
The qualifier was curry. It's a stew. The others rated it on taste, but she decided on a qualifier. Shauntelle was still insufferable through out the show.
@@arielvega6344the other mum’s still rated it as a curry tho. acknowledged it as a curry they didn’t say it was a stew. she was the only one. she’s a clown
I'm a Tru caribbean woman from Trinidad and I appreciate a good curry chicken or goat long as it has color taste and a good smell. I realize we all have our preferences but I wouldn't shit on food before even REALLY trying it
@@imswezi9499 yes but to correct you they were not Indian immigrants rather indentured servants. After slavery was abolished they were brought to the Caribbean by the British to replace the Africans. But that really has nothing to do with this video or my previous comment because the Caribbean is a diverse melting pot of races combined where we all learn from each others ancestral ways.
I think because you know what your own dish looks and taste like... I can use the same exact thing as someone else when making curry chicken but itll look different and taste different... I'm guessing this could be why
@@supremeetnel7707 no that’s flat out cheating and should be an immediate disqualification. But buzz feed will do anything for views so they bring on people that rate zeros so they win. These aren’t even good videos anymore
@@chrissybear. I don’t think buzz feed knows what ratings the cast will give because they don’t know how the food will turn out. Though it’s a competition the rules should be more strict to avoid shady moves like this.
Honestly reminds me of an episode of Come Dine With Me, where one lass purposely scored everyone out of 5 instead of the usual 10, and technically won bc of it, so the producers literally made her give proper scores instead bc she was cheating the system
@@oh_indigo she purposely does that and it’s not cute at all like she’s doing the most for what? A win on a RU-vid channel that nobody wants you on the attitude ISNT cute whatsoever
I'm sorry but I was born and live in the ACTUAL Caribbean and could tell you the only one that looks closest to an ACTUAL CARIBBEAN curry chicken is Lorna's. And i can promise you that if you came to the Caribbean and made a curry chicken with peas and corn, you will not be invited back
@@makesparkzfly what?? Do they really? I wouldn’t know cause I was only speaking on Caribbean curry since that’s what the video was about and is all I know, specifically Guyanese curry (since that’s what I am)
@@NoDoubtItsKenz We don’t add extras to every curry, but for some curries peas and corn are a specialty, especially in South Asian dishes. It’s interesting to see how curries are different for differing countries.
I love how you can tell that Leony just loves trying new things and has an open mind about things. The way she talks about herself & others is so kind and refreshing. I love her & she deserves better scores 🥺
Exactly; with her lowballing and won by the skin of her teeth. Lorna said it best about the peas. And this is after Shauntelle siad Heather's was a 7 Indian but 1 Caribbean
You're giving zeros and ones and then putting potatoes, carrots, peas and did say corn (?!) in your curry chicken? That's a different dish. Disqualified for not being curry chicken.
We put potatoes in our curry chicken and chic peas as people always want them... whenever we don't people asked didn't we put it in there this time lol
@@isabellesapphirethomas1681 I personally don't like eating "stewed" potatoes in any capacity but its a must for the family... im content with the chic peas and curry chicken with some Roti 🤤🤤... I have some leftover roti in the freezer...think I know what im cooking for dinner tomorrow lol
Ms. Leony my namesake (Leonie) I absolutely loooooooovvvvveee your personality and how respectful you were even when something was not up to par per your palette. You are the epitome of Jamaican (Caribbean hospitality). I believe if you gave Shauntelle her dish without her knowing she would give it a low score. Lorna is a bit of a mini diva as well, but not as rude as Shauntelle. Heather seems fair in her scoring. Again Ms. Leony, thank you for representing and showing the true Caribbean Hospitality, and thank you for the small history lesson on how the bony meat was representative of what was given to slaves (the what left.)
@@februaryboardsco691 right. Without the other contestants being generous and without shauntelle giving 0 because it’s not what SHE’D cook. She would’ve been like 3rd or 4th place
As a born and raised Jamaican I can tell you that shauntelle would never bring that “curry” to a Caribbean gathering because she would get slapped with every hand in the room. Who the hell puts peas and corn in Caribbean curry? No sah , she need a raashole knock in har bumbo ole 😂
Chicken Potato (optional) Curry Oil Salt Black pepper Garlic Onions Chives/green or spring onions Chadon bene aka culantro Thyme Scotch bonnet peppers Pimento peppers Maggi chicken cubes Salted margarine eg Golden Ray Iron pot 3 rocks Firewood Matches Rum A posse Music - soca or chutney or both. Ingredients for Trinidad and Tobago curry chicken 😅
I just went to a Jamaican restaurant by my house and ordered the Curry chicken (it was the only thing available) with rice and peas and fried plantains. I washed it down with some Appleton Estate 12 year. Best meal in a long time
Shauntelle, I don’t appreciate the harsh criticism you give and do rate other people's dish a higher, it's almost if you are determined to win this challenge. There is no need to act catty and cocky. Jeez
As a guyanese trini 🇬🇾🇹🇹, after cleaning and washing your chicken with lime & white vinegar, you add, salt, black pepper, grated onion, grated garlic, minced chives, mined celery, hot pepper (bird pepper), pimento 🌶️ pepper, a bit of ginger, CURRY POWDER, masala, grounded geera and a bit tumeric powder. Mix well, allow it to sit for a few hours. Put your cast iron pot on the stove, allow to get hot, add some oil, wait until when you can literally see /feel the heat coming off the oil, throw in the chicken, stir well, cover and let all the water fry out until it comes back to just oil in the pan, add potatoes, stir. Add ENOUGH water to make a sauce, cover & let it boil until potatoes are soft. To thicken sauce, remove a few of the cubed potatoes, mash it up and add it back to the sauce. Check for taste. Turn off stove, add some freshly chopped chive for garnish. Serve over hot white 🍚 rice or with dhal Puri.
Whooo that sounds like a long azz day of cooking. Here's the thing- most people don't know how much of each seasoning to add. So it may not taste as good if your not Caribbean. Sounds good though
@@eshablair4841 one hour tops. If you have your green seasoning already made and stored in the fridge. Just wash the chicken & season before bed. You can have food ready in no time. 🤔 To solve the amount of seasoning problem. AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE OF EACH. The only thing you have to be careful with is the salt. Salty food isn't good for you.
Yeah we’re going to go ahead and give this one to Lorna. The only reason that other girl won is because the other two ladies were being nice. Lorna definitely wanted to give her a zero.
This wasn't a proper test. Where was the Trinidadian, Guyanese and Surinamese in this challenge. I mean they would know more about curries than the rest of the Caribbean. No offence.
🙄There’s always some rude obnoxious person that just hates on everyone’s food. I can understand not liking something or it not being what you’re looking for in a dish but there’s a much classier way to go about it.
There’s almost always a “Shauntelle” among the group in these types of videos. So annoying but I guess you need that type of personality for entertainment purposes.
I disagree we could of had a better time without her with the other videos of other people trying their ethnic food it was smiles giggles and honesty but with this its the opposite
Give y’all a secret, key to curry is curry powder and Marsala 3:1 ratio mixed together with diced onions and garlic and lil bit of water and made into a thick paste. Now comes the most important part, trying that up properly until the oil oozes out of that said paste. This is key part to making curry.
Shuantelle: everything is gross its not cooked properly in giving them 1 or 0 Everyone else: it could be better but I'll still give them a decent score since its at least edible
That’s what I was thinking, there’s a high influence from Indian culture on our food, especially curry and roti and it differs from one Caribbean country to the next. There’s not just 1 way to make it!
@@khadijaally9593 if anything I am wrong because all Jamaicans are West Indian and my dumb ass found out today that I’m actually west Indian and not African-American
I love that the Carribean/Jamaicans on this always appreciate bones in the curry. A good curry is always bone in. If it doesn't have the bone in I'm gonna be disappointed.
Would love to here which islands. The Caribbean is not one culture. Although most of our cultures are close we all have a separate and unique identity. Love from the west Indies 🇹🇹
Lorna’s curry with spinners looks like my grandma’s. I know her curry is great. I can see she “burned” the dry curry first then added the seasoned curry meat. That’s why you have that nice colour
