We were so grateful to our church after Easter our pastor gave us 22 hydrangea bushes from the alter. We planted them and are thriving very well. This information has been much appreciated. Love hydrangeas 🦋
Many thanks good video,I cut my old hydrangea very low in the spring this year because it got frost bite, but now it has grown back to the size it was, looks very healthy bigger leaves,,
Hi, thanks for the comprehensive video. I have a panicle hydrangea vanilla strawberry, I was just wondering if it is possible to reposition it in a shaded location, not under a tree but somewhere where it will receive 3 to 4 hours of light. Thanks
I always adored hydrangeas. Now that I have my own home since 2 years... I planted 3 hydrangeas, one bought as blue, was trying to get purple this year and I said nooo... bought some fertilizer and is now blue and beautiful. My pink one is half blue half pink.
ArcanePath360 , hydrangeas do not like to be exposed to too much sun, they prefer a shadowed area, also when watering sumerge the containers in water until you notice it is heavy, meaning jt absorbed a lot of water. I hope it helps.
I've started my begonias and they are just showing but they have flowers on already the shoot is about 2inches? Doesn't seem right could you advice please x
I have three, red, white, blue. Only the blue one blooms. I have had them three years, but am thinking of digging them up. They are in shaded area a lot and do not get much morning shade. Help me save them!
We bought three hydrangeas over a month ago. since they are zone four plants and we live in zone four i figured they would be fine. however they are starting to wilt what did I do wrong. I have them each in there own large pot, and I water them if we are not going to get rain that day.
Another video by a Garden Center owner for yrs. said to prune in Fall & others say Spring! It's hard to know when to do my Mop Head plant. It's huge & HAS to be pruned way back.
The flowers on my plant have all turned green. They were pink when I bought it last year and has grown but the flowers first went white and now they're green. What can I do to get their colour back? Some of the flowers have dried up and gone brown. Should I cut those off? Thanks
Hydrangeas need morning sun to achieve the largest bloom possible. It’s critical to have them in shade during the afternoon or harsh sun. I have been able to grow hydrangeas in my harsh desert west facing afternoon sun, but only limelight’s have been able to tolerate these harsh sunny areas and typically require watering twice per day and sometimes an umbrella until they are well established. Zone 5 Utah, clay alkaline soil. I must use acid amending in the soil as well as acid liquid fertilizer once per month
This was so helpful. I have limelight growing now and I’m scared I’m not watering them enough. Some of the leaves are turning brown. I have them in full sun. Zone 8
How can I get my hydrangea to bloom again, first year it boomed beautifully. The disaster was I cut down in fall as my friend told me.Year after it did not bloom at all.It is already 7 years....still no bloom! What can I do ?Thanks!
I really don't know, but they are so cheap and easy to grow, (Just break off a piece and stick it in compost), I would junk it. I have about 50 all grown from cuttings.
Hi Sara. Yes hydrangea feed can be used on any variety of Hydrangea, including all types of white Hydrangea. Just follow the instructions on the back to give your Hydrangea a healthy boost. Thanks.
I just want to know why my mopheads keep fading and wilting and the leaves look burnt. It's in the container I bought it in several weeks ago. I water every day and took it out of the sun which it seemed not to like.
ArcanePath360 I'm no expert, but I've had good success with hydrangeas over the years, the moment you see any wilting you need to get the plant watered, during the summer they can take quite a bit of water. Take them out of direct sunlight if it's really hot & give them a break. I tend to give a really good water once the suns gone down so they have the cool of the night to enjoy a good drink without the water just evaporating away. I feed with a standard good quality feed that I add to the water. Keep well watered & drained, feed regularly, hydrangeas are so beautiful & easy to care for. Also try taking cuttings, they are so simple, I have lots of hydrangeas from cuttings. Saves a fortune.. 🌷
We have 3 hydrangea plants that don’t bloom every year! What is the reason for not blooming every year? I pruned them but still not blooming this year and other years!
William and Yollie Hayes it might be because you have what is known as ‘old wood’ hydrangeas. So these plants only flower off old wood, so you have to give the pruning a miss every second year. I have a similar issue, I have a massive plant that only produces flowers off the stems that I have left unpruned. So each year I cut it back hard, it regrows with lots of green leaves and no flowers. The following year I don’t cut it back and it flowers beautifully. So I just forgo flowers every second year.
It is really difficult when gardening brands are mentioned. It doesnt say what the main ingredients are. this makes a big difference if you are nothern or southern hempishere gardener.
Hydrangeas can take up to 2 to 5 years to bloom fully, depending on the variety. Give the plant a real covering around the base of rotted horse muck, and some compost, and also a possible watering if its quite dry. Prune the plant at the right time too. Maybe your soil has gone a bit alkaline, and needs some acid loving source added to it. I try not to water my plants with tap water as some house holds have quite a bit of added chlorine to it or salt in it, so try having a water vessel to catch rain to water your plants, I find a water butt ideal, and I use liquid manure (all the unseeded weeds soaked for a few weeks in a big tub of rain water then diluted with water, sieved then water my plants, they love it.
