My kitty went missing about 1 year ago. I believe he was eaten by a bobcat near us. I keep my other kitty inside now. He’s upset but I’d rather him be alive

Same thing happened to me a month after I foster 3 stray kittens. Two of them were lost and we believed that they were eaten by a monitor lizard. Since then, we kept the other kitten indoors. Surprisingly, she’s loving it

I got a cat that I am pretty sure used to be an outdoor cat. I take her outdoors on a leash every day, and she will try and walk up to the front doors of other houses and meow at them like it's her house. I think that must be how she ended up at the animal shelter in the first place. She probably got lost and wandered up to the wrong house, so they took her in but then decided they couldn't keep her because they already had too many animals. So now she is an indoor kitty, except on the leash.

My cats all stay in the house. They are all ferals, Patches had her kids behind my shed. After she brought them out in my yard, I brought all of them in. I think Patches wanted me to take her kids in, but, she never thought she would be taken in too. They are very happy living in the house and getting attention from me. When I'm not there, they have eachother. Tiger and Blackie also love sitting on my lap.

We wanted our cats to enjoy being outside, so we enclosed a small side porch to make them a catio. We were very lucky to have that area to work with. They love being out on their wicker benches and cat trees. And they're safe from danger. And can't get into trouble. And, yes, our home is toddler-proofed, as kitties are perennial two-year-olds.

I have an indoor cat who has grown up thinking hes a human. He has his own toybox but prefers to chase bottle tops round the floor. He is superclean with a touch of OCD. He doesn't scratch or bite. He's just a well loved fluffy big boy who is spoilt.

My cat is an indoor cat! Although, we let her in our backyard sometimes (we are always watching her when we do). Unfortunately she can’t be an outdoor cats because foxes live near us and our street gets fairly busy, plus she has no experience with it!

Plant cat grass in a shallow flower pot w holes for drainage and have another ready to go bc it will be gone in no time. Continue planting it so they will have a constant supply. I really didn't know about the water bowl separate from food. Makes total sense. I've had lots of cats never had an issue, but all meows are different and my recent one doesn't drink enough. My last one loved drinking from the faucet which makes me realize that you are correct. I moved her water. I love her. And I know she needs me. We are! And I need her... our lives continue. Also catnip is fun for them and you. It's another plant that they can eat and stimulates their happiness. Got to get back to pleasing my little meow. Thanks for everything.

@@FisherKot11235 Excellent comment. I agree cats should be indoors, and dogs on-leash for everyone's protection, and cats do take birds. But there is question as to how many birds cats kill. It's been proven that the "facts" are doctored to reflect what the "experts" are saying - just like many things are in our society. Cats have always been around, but human encroachment, pollution, and destruction of habitat since we've industrialized have killed more wildlife than any cats have. Now people are freaking out when numbers are noticeably dwindling, so fingers start pointing. And since cats have a 2nd-class status in many cultures, it's very easy to put the blame on them. But it's US! In 40 years plastics have decimated our oceans and its life. Cats didn't do that. Bird feeders attract more than birds. Dropped seeds bring rodents, which attract cats, who primarily hunt at night when rodents are out. I've seen it. I've also seen the horrible things people do the cats because of idiocy. Or psychotic serial-killers-in-training who torture and kill cats, because "it's only a cat". I like your view on how pets are really us - I agree. Humans can be arrogant. And ... T-N-R WORKS! So does spaying and neutering our pets. But YOU knew that. You have good ideas about things.

In the US , many people live in areas where predators can be found like coyotes and wolves . Outdoor cats are also susceptible to getting run over by a vehicle and contracting diseases . Indoor cats live longer . I have two strictly indoor cats and they are just fine . Both came to me as strays or dump off . My black cat came to me at 6 weeks old . Immediately made her indoor . Around the time she was 4 , I placed her on the back porch and she started crying . I don't de- claw my cats either

Here in Sweden(or well atleast in my area) cats are the top predators but as you say cars are a threat and people are very mean to cats. Every day i read about cats getting tortured by humans so there's that threat too. Altough my area is safe there too but cars are still a massive threat. I have a rescue cat i've had for 10 years, took care of him when he was 1 and he was so used to being outside that it wasnt possible. But these days he only wants to go outside 2 times a day and he's never out for more than an hour and stays close too. I got a kitten last year and he's completely fine about being inside and it feels nice not having too worry about anything happening to him.

@foofoobear66
@foofoobear66 7 лет назад
All 3 of our cats and our next door neighbors cat were poisoned by the same person across the street from us. We couldn't prove it, but each time we lost a cat it was found on the curb in front of that SOB's house, they didn't appear to have been run over, he either poisoned them or killed them somehow. Everyone hated this neighbor because he was the only one on the block with a bunch of garbage in his front yard, car parts, washing machines etc. He was a pig. He was finally fined by the town and was forced to clean up his yard. This happened a long time ago, so there isn't anything I can do about it now.

"Cats are ideally alowed outside", yes, but if they are accustomed to go outside and grew up outdoors. I raised two kittens who were very young and helpless when I found them, and they got used to be indoors. I tried to let them out under my supervision but they are just too scared and I believe they are happier inside, in safe enviroment watching the outdoors from their net-secured terrace. They grew up to be two very happy, social, playful and cuddly cats. If you put a generally outdoors cat strictly inside the house, of cource it will be depressed.

0:19 Previous experience. Yes, very much so. In the 1980 we fostered cats for the CPL (as it was back then) and I would say that, with very few exceptions, it is impossible to get a cat that has previously had access to the outside world to happily accept permanent confinement to the house.

I got a small apartment in the city. And my catfriend died last year and I'm struggeling with getting a new buddy cause... This apartment is small. And I can't pay for two kitties :'( I tried to get along with the idea to never have a cat again until I move someday, maybe. But I can't. I feel so lost without a cat... So... My question is: If I have a single cat in a 40 qm apartment with a balcony and a lot of cat playground... And I would train my cat to walk on a leash to drive with him or her into the green once a week... Would that be cool? And which cats are good with leashes and training, apart from siamese? Is a norwegian cat a good choice? Or does it always depend of the kitty? I really wanna train my cat so I can walk with him or her. And let her stray around our little green place outside of the city, when I trained the kitty to come to me when I call it... I guess that might be possible... Somehow... :( It's the only way I can think of. Would that be okay for a kitty?

My cats grew up indoors, and are afraid to go outside. So it would be much more cruel to kick them out, bc they don't want to. I tried to pick one of my cats up and take him outside to see the outdoors, and he was so scared, he even scratched me and escaped in the house. He could went for the street out of fear and then what. It all goes down to what is your cat used to. If he grew up outside it is certainly cruel to keep him indoors, but my cats were very young when I found them and struggling for their lives, so they got used to being inside.

I stopped watching when narrator said said “ideally cats would be allowed outside”. Unless he’s then recommending catios or other enclosures I can’t support this idea. Purely on statistics of longevity, harm to wildlife, and vehicular accidents. I’ve rescued for 30+yrs and to adopt one of my cats you signed paperwork they would be indoor only and all were microchipped back to me, not the new owner just in case. I’ve seen cats with horrible injuries that were then re-injured after surgeries and such by being allowed out again. New Zealand has horrible problems with native birds that are extinct or nearly so because of outdoor cats. Just no. If they are ferals, then TNR and release back but in CA and TX in TNR I’ve been with if there were kittens or cats comfortable with humans they became indoor only. I don’t understand this narrator’s statement in terms of health for the cat or for wildlife the cat may affect.
@blackmore4
@blackmore4 6 лет назад
I've also had cats for over thirty years and in London. Not one has ever been run over or poisoned or beaten up or any of the other things people are talking about here. Obviously I'm not saying it doesn't happen and you have to do what's appropriate in your local area but "ideally cats would be allowed outside" seems completely logical to me.
