Carioca is the name of all people living in Rio de Janeiro or those who were born in the city. They are famous for having their own way of life, consisting of spending a lot of time by the beach, meeting friends as much as you can, wearing easy-going clothes and speaking with a funny accent. The "s" and "r" sounds are different. The "s" comes from the Portuguese heritage. The "r" funnily comes from visits of the French Royalty in Rio. The French "r" was considered fashionable and became part of the carioca accent!
