Carl is the high priest of the trombone. No one can beat his rhythmic and melodic sense. ALL trombone players did learn from him. Bill Watrous himself has always pointed Carl as his main influence. No need to ask why. Thank you for all the beauty you shared with us.
He was simply the best! A true virtuoso on the instrument with consummate improvisational tastes & skills! It was truly great to be able to take in an hour-long workshop with Carl back in the late 1980's. I learned more in that one hour than in all the lessons I have had with any of the instructors in my life, combined!
This performance is an example (for me) of a completely relaxed and confident musician. I can't detect an ounce of tension or uncertanty in the whole recording.
