Carl Goldberg Extra 300 Maiden Flight NCS field Guam (May 31st, 2021)

In this video I take you to the field here on Guam and conducted the maiden flight of the Carl Goldberg Extra 300 kit which I had completed a few months ago. This aircraft is powered by DLE20cc 2 stroke gas engine spinning a APC 16x10 prop, controlled by a Spektrum DX9 black edition transmitter and 9ch receiver all Hitec HV servos and Sullivan skywriter smoke pump. The winds on this day were gusting and strong! However I had prepared for this day the whole week with the last two days of grass cutting to get the area ready for the maiden flight. That is some excellent flying given the wind conditions. I spent some time on Guam as a Continental Micronesia pilot in 94 and 96. I wish I knew where the rc fields were back then. It would have been a good pastime on my days off.

Pffff...you had some tricky wind conditions over there buddy...but...succesful Maiden flight man....love how you tackle the landing and gusty wind...

Bayona's typical day: 8 hours weight lifting, 8 hours building airplanes, 8 hours sleeping with a couple days off for flying. Perfect Day.

What was the all up weight on your Extra? Is that a DLE20?

I am currently searching for my next Airplane kit build! I am working on the current AMA field for it need lots of work and will make do with the powerlines there.

what was the solutions they came up with? kinda been out of the loop working on stuff

@@MrMadtractor well nothing can be done with the powerlines there so I decided to give the route you see in the video a try. A left hand approach for landing making the turn before the powerlines and the old pits area while standing to the right of the runway. So far this will work for even large scale planes. We just have to come up with a plan on tearing down the old pits and building another to the far right of the runway near the tree line and then deal with the area beautification efforts. Unfortunately it is just me at the moment. I am hoping with this new plan I can get the field up and In full use once again.

Hi My friend, i have the Extra 300 with the same DLE 20, can you help me with de CG ( Center of Gravity) i need to know the distance from the leading edge of the wing, thank you, i really apprecciatte your help

Sorry for the late reply. The CG location is 5-1/4" back from leading edge at the root end or closest to fuselage sides.

Hey brotha. How was the CG with the DLE 20 up front? I’m building the same aircraft right now with the DLE 20, but without smoke. I was thinking of moving the rudder and elevator servos to the rear to compensate for the engine.

Yeah I ended up placing my receiver pack at the way back making a hatch and battery tray. So placing the servos further back would help with CG.

Not yet! I still gotta do more grass cutting. However I am trying to acquire a riding mower because cutting this field with just a weed wacker really sucks ass. Once I get the remainding areas cut then I will take up the Cessna for it's 2nd flight.

Next video! It was just not the right wind conditions on this day. I have no problems flying on windy days however this day was not your normal windy day.

@@FranksModelAviationWorkshop was the reason why I did not do alot in this video. Was afraid that the strong winds would rip out my rudder or elevator during a knife edge, or snap roll. So I kept it simple for now.

No she is a pussy cat! This was maiden day and day one of trying to get our flying site back up and running. New approach and all since the club has been inactive for over 4 years. However after this video all other flights were spot on.

@@trevorfurlotte the DLE20RA or side exhaust is more than enough to be honest. I had to dumb down the throttle curves via transmitter otherwise my 300 would be a rocket and probably fold the wings hehehehehehehe
