@@evalsoftserver I heard that too. But he still has the 3rd longest jump of alltime. And more jumps over 8.5 metres than anyone else in history by far His consistency in the long jump was incredible. Only Mike Powell and Bob Beamon have ever jumped further. With their freak jumps in 1968 and 1991.
My question to you is how do you know you're talking as if you know Carl Lewis personally as if you are his doctor you don't know what was in that man's body LOL
Glywnnis, The beginning of the PED Golden Era of American T&F. Poor Calvin knew all about the PED abuses by his contemporaries but being a nice and honest man, he did not complain and took the defeats like a man. Calvin should be the gold medalist of the 1988 Summer Olympic Games.
@@rastafari1922 you call your name rastafari.. And say something discredible and untrue about black athletes.. If it's anything worse than a liar it's a hypocrite... Change your name
Unfortunately with all the drug and drug masking going on back in the 80’s it’s hard not to question every successful athlete regardless of their country of origin. We really just don’t know and probably will never know who was clean and who wasn’t.
Drugs/ No drugs,,, you can't do what these guys do. The drugs conspiracy is contradictory in & of itself. Top guys are often described as genetically gifted or Drugged. If either is true then the other is just a theory. But the fact that both exists, proves further that both are just mere hypothesis people have chosen to clinge onto albeit unfounded. PS: Am not saying banned substances were absent in their system, am saying those substances never helped and still don't.
I just read that he tested positive for something that could have been caused by stimulants at least that is what he said. If those same drugs were in his system today he would be disqualified no excuses. So I stand corrected. I still love him.
@@barbararichardson2905 Carl protected by the US Olympic Committee. The U.S. T&F was and is a complete disgrace. It operates the same as the Russky athletic programs. I root for American athletes but not cheaters. They should award the 1988 100m gold to Calvin Smith.
And yet you still looked up this race typed in Carl Lewis in your search engine..and looked at this race no less than four times why.. because you're a fucking fan... Weirdo
Ben Johnson was the best. Yes, he was juiced, but so was Lewis and everyone else. He admitted as much years later, and the OAC and various athletic organizations did nothing.
@@cavaleer I would not put it past anyone high school kids you think are not on PEDs 🤔 I have been going to the gym for over 30+ years I have seen kids come in the weight room a buck 50 and in a few months they are over 200lbs I myself have been a life time drug free bodybuilder at my heaviest I'm just over 200lbs comepete at 174lbs so to say high school kids can't or don't do PEDs you don't see what I have seen over the years🤔
@Joegamer55 Usain is the GOAT for sprinting. Lewis the overall track and field GOAT. To be a great sprinter and even greater long jumper at the same time. Is something nobody else has since been able to achieve. No one will ever win 4 track and field golds in 1 olympics ever again..And nobody will ever win 4 consecutive long jumps golds. To put that into context. Nobody has ever even won two consecutive Olympic golds in longjump. That's how hard it is to do.
That is what IAM trying to find out they had Johnson world record 9.83 , his 9.79 was removed, Carl was celebrating like mad at running faster at 9.78 but Johnson 9.83 was taken away as well. 1993 the world record was 9.86 by Carl lewis.the world record holder was Lewis and and Calvin 9.92 after Johnson 9.79 and 9.83 was strpped
Alvin, I remember Bullet Bob. If Bob Hayes trained full-time in T&F, ran with modern equipment and not running on a dirt track, Bullet Bob might have run 9.5 sec in 100m.
I hate to clump all Americans into a group but I don’t know any other way to say it. They just can’t give credit to another country. At 18 sec mark of video they post the world record time set by Ben Johnson of CANADA. They can’t put up a picture of the Canadian flag but they certainly have the US flag on there. They just show a global icon, as if to say it’s not an important accomplishment if it not an American holding the record. NHL hockey game national Anthems done by American teams is an embarrassment. They sing the Canadian national anthem overly fast and monotone and then sing the US anthem like they just won WW3. Then in Canada the singers perform both Anthems equally well. It’s shameful that this is bred into their culture. An countries all over the globe have the same experiences with the USA.
PigMine, PEDs! Do you recognize the HR record from Barry Bonds or the multiple Cy Young winner Roger Clemens? Actually, both Barry and Roger were HOFs before using drugs. On the other hand, Carl won't even get a Bronze if he didn't use drugs.
@@PigMine6 They tested Bolt in every competition. They also keep samples for future testing. Bolt would be stupid to use drugs and thinking he won't be caught. Also, Bolt is running for tiny Jamaica, not the super-power U.S.A. Jamaica will not have the influence to cover up for Bolt just as the U.S. did for PED pioneer, Carl Lewis, during the 1980s.
In order to really, determine who is the best ever. You must allow the sprinters to use drugs monitored by doctors and Olympic officials. You still, must hv a natural gift to excel at optimum human levels. I would love to see Bolt, Lewis, Johnson, Gay, Gatlin, Green, Smith and Mitchell at their best head to head. Impossible, to determine who would win juicing or not. This would be the greatest race ever.
Not really THAT impossible to guess who would win , lol , Bolt would win. Bolt in his prime beats ANY other man and would do it convincingly. No other human has ran 9.5's or 19.1's period. Would I still love to see such a race ..?? Absolutely. But there is no mystery here.
@@willstuart4504 yes, it's not possible. Nevertheless, did you forget that bolt was beaten in his prime several times. You never, kn what can happen in one race in a pressured situation. These are the best in the world. One or two of these guys may want to win more than he does. The spirit of "will" makes humans become super human. I would hv to say, in that one big race he would lose! It's called unpredictability, bc; it's not your day. Shalom.
@@trsking Fair enough, so WHO do you think would beat the fastest man to ever live in this High Pressured race.? Everyone is certainly allowed their own opinion and Ill respect yours , even if it is different than mine. 👍
@@willstuart4504 it's too tough to call but, i would love to see M. Greene or J. Gatlin win. Gatlin, beat him in his prime and in his last race b4 he retired. Lewis and D. Bailey were beast too. Here's the line-up..Gatlin, Greene, Gay, Bailey, Johnson, Lewis, Bolt and Smith. All i know, is that Bolt would lose!!! Keep in mind that all of them would be on the juice. @@rogerkerr7675 yep you're absolutely right that's true.... He ran 9.80 in the semifinals in that world... It was very close with Leroy Burrell I remember watch it
If Usain Bolt was in this race he would have finished dead last because in 1988 Usain Bolt was only 2 years old. At that age he probably couldn't even break 12 seconds.
Sorry buddy: Lewis was Never faster than Ben Johnson.. Never.... Both used drugs.. Lewis never got caught... it was proven: all but one tested positive in Olympic race with Johnson... It would have been a good race: Ben Johnson and Usain Bolt! Lewis would be last again 👍
@La'Juan hey I didn’t see Johnson or the other runners either……… guess they did better job at masking …….. funny how Lewis tested positive later in the states at another meet. The guy was a Show Boat that Shouldn’t have won anyways..He STEPPED OUT OF HIS LANE in a straight away near the finish line and NOBODY SAW iT????? BULL SHIT
@La'Juan it came out in 2003 that Carl Lewis failed doping tests 3 times in the Olympic qualifiers but the US Olympic Committee shoved that under the rug and waived the ban because Carl claimed to have taking the banned substances inadvertently. All but 2 in that 1988 final were convicted in roping related charges... The other two also likely were also doping
Bolt ran 9.69 while slowing down and celebrating with no wind at his back. All of this in his FIRST year running the 100m. His 9.69 could have possibly been his fastest performance (yes, even potentially the 9.58 in berlin), had he ran all the way through. Lewis was good, but also an admitted drug cheat. Bolt was/is a freak of nature.
When the hell did you ever see or hear Carl Lewis admit to being a drug cheat.. man stop listening to rumors.. they're started by jealousy and envy..do something with yourself and you call yourself black Superman oh my goodness
+blue kav6 How in the world do you know for certainty that Bolt never took drugs? Are you his trainer or friend or coach or nutritionist? Don't you ever assume or speak on someone else that you do not know. And even if you knew him, you still wouldn't know for certainty that he was drug free! Speak for yourself and yourself only! Speaking for other people especially without even knowing them & with conviction at that, is a bad look for you. Grow up fast or you will eventually get in trouble for this kind of behavior!
+BreuckelensFinest: We should only deal with facts and then come to an informed judgment on the issue. At junior lever Bolt was a very gifted sprinter. He became the youngest gold medalist ever at the 2002 Junior World Championships. He broke world records in 2008 and 2009 by substantial margins. Between 2007 and 2016 he won 17 of 18 races he participated in obtaining 17 gold medals. He has been subjected to rigorous drug testing repeatedly. He is the fastest sprinter ever. He has never been tested positive for banned substances and is considered clean and a hero. He is a one off, a freak of nature who does not rely on raw talent but puts in relentless hours of hard work to enhance his remarkable ability. Of course you have a right to doubt and a right to be skeptical about the most brilliant sprinter of all time. But the empirical evidence to date backed up by findings from Rootclaim's analysis deems that he is NOT taking Performance Enhancing Drugs and is therefore clean and not a cheat. However, if you have hard core evidence to the contrary then you have a duty to divulge this data and put it in the public domain, otherwise accept that Bolt is as clean as a pair of his heels.
Yes...you wont see Bolt do the long jump. Makes a difference. But have to judge a man in HIS era...except Ben Johnson!. A cheat is a cheat cuz he is not a winner!
