Excellent analysis! Everything Carl stated are things I keep trying to e plain to folks, especially the winding up to build power, proper arms, and extreme relaxation! I’ve seen tons of ignorant folks keep complaining Elaine looks like she’s asleep when she’s running; this is a GOOD thing! Another key element is he mentioned her happiness in life. Every small thing that releases endorphins helps tremendously, and while folks keep screaming PED’s for FloJo, I keep explaining I think she found the perfect combination of power, technique, and EXTREME relaxation, while appearing happy when she ran (I’m referring to 1988). Jeter could’ve spanked SAFP left and right if she wanted to, but, she could not relax to save her life and SAFP cashed in on it. ShaCarri gets left out of the blocks, but the extreme relaxation and confidence in her top speed has her cruising right pass everyone in no time. More importantly in Carl’s analysis is how he explains it needs to be one flow, and not broken down, defined phases. He is truly dead on!

The thing i noticed with Elaine as well is, she runs her race like the men do. Or i should say, Mo greene and Gatlin. She actually has a drive phase and stays in it longer than most women. Whereas like Carl said, Shelly (a lot of women as well) gets out, but goes right in to running. With Elaine staying in her phase, she’s just doing what Carl said. Building up. Hasn’t started running yet until she comes out her phase. I call it “cheat the race”. Everyone has reached/reaching their limit whereas you’re just beginning. She’s going to be tough to beat and i see both 1 and 2 wr going down by her. But i still love my Shelly lol

I actually felt Shelly-Ann stood up faster than I feel she normally goes there. Not saying she would have won if she'd stayed down a little longer, but do think the drive phase, which I agree Elaine does have despite what Carl says, counts and is important. I just think most runners stay in it too long and end up decelerating too soon.
@WE_ARE_LIGHT
@WE_ARE_LIGHT 2 года назад
As he stated with her being taller. That would account for her drive phase being longer. Because the other women turnover is quicker so they can come initiate force and it seems as if they come out of the drive phase quicker. But in actuality if someone 6'5 and 6'0 took the same amount of steps before they run. The one who is 6'0 would accomplish his steps in a shorter distance and precede to run first and reach top end first. One man reason Elaine is so fast in second have of the race is because when she reaches top end spend its over.

Carl Lewis is one of the smartest sprint commentators and coaches in the world! I wish he worked as a commentator for the top pro meets. AND BY THE WAY he's the most decorated American Track Olympian ever. Allyson Felix doesn't even come close!!!!!!!!!! So what if she has 1 more total medal (11 to 10). She only has *ONE* individual gold medal. Carl Lewis has *SEVEN*. It's an insult to Carl to even compare them. And, the simple fact is that women's sprinting today is still not as competitive as men's sprinting was in the 80s/90s; i.e., a smaller fraction of the women in the human race who really could be top sprinters have actually been identified and encouraged to sprint than has been the case with men for a couple generations. Until that changes, when a man and a woman have an equal numerical accomplishment compared to their competitors, the man's accomplishment is more impressive. (Hey, if you don't like that, don't shoot the messenger. I wish it wasn't so.)

Secondly, the amount of worlds records broken by male and female team members from a country as small as Jamaica is also statistically improbable along with the amount of space decreased in their running times (in such a small window of time) is highly improbable because the human body cannot do such things without performance enhancers.

@@kenkenichi7461 I think you need to take a trip to Jamaica during “track and field season “ and observe what goes on especially at the annual boys and girls championships. It would help you to understand the motivation that our youngsters have to run faster and faster. And while you are there visit the Jamaica Anti Doping Commission and ask what their role is, who they work in conjunction with and if they test the athletes. It’s dangerous to conclude that athletes from a small country can’t improve their speed because of the size of the country they are from. Trust me, you need that trip. Now answer this, do you think the WADA is credible? If they are then the Jamaican athletes are clean. So which is it, the WADA is credible or the Jamaican athletes are too fast to be caught? You can do better with your brain than sitting and thinking such nonsense and speaking against a nation of great sprinters without any proof at all. All you have said is pure speculation. Support your arguments with some facts brethren. SFP won her first Olympic title in 2008 and is still running and winning Olympic medals in 2022. Do you think someone taking PED could last that long without some behavioral changes. This young lady has shown tremendous growth in her personal life as well as her professional life. How dare you cast aspersions about her when you have no proof of what you are talking about. You seriously owe Jamaica an apology and you need to go there and make it.
