Back in action with this action packed series....On War by the soldier, commander and scholar Carl Phillip Gottfried von Clausewitz.
For part 1 I delve into a little background of the author and his motivation to write this book, which has become a military classic since its initial print. The opening chapters discuss the fundamentals: what is war? why is it used and what are its limitations/applications?

I just came across this video, and I really like the format and the way you teach (notes on whiteboard, book in hand, quotes from book) . I learned more from you than most videos on Von Clausewitz, Thank you!

This masterpiece deserves more views! I'm a student of IR and this helped me thoroughly understand the approach of Witz. You have explained it thoroughly and aligned the scattered information on the internet for better understanding. Kudos to you

Yamamoto also stated that Japan would rule the waves for about six months, after that the Americans would gain the upper hand. The Battle of Midway occurred approximately six months after Peal Harbor, and Japan was on the defensive afterwards in the Pacific.

This is great mate! I’m about to read “On War” as some good material before British Army Officer selection. Good to get a nice landscape before getting stuck in. Also, while I’m here - nice Rolex Explorer? Can’t quite tell on the screen!

Awesome Tom, glad to hear you're enjoying it. About to post the final part here shortly. (And you have a good eye, it is the now discontinued Rolex Explorer 214270 Mk1 dial....my daily driver). Cheers and best of luck in selection.

@hop light Thank you so much for this. could you explain a bit better what he means with "extremes"? I didn't quite get it. Ultimately., what does it mean?
@HopLight1
@HopLight1 2 года назад
My pleasure Olimpia. When he says "extremes", think about it as another term for "escalation". A perfect example of this right now is the war in Ukraine. The western powers introduced javelin missile delivery systems to Ukrainian forces. Russia has introduced its own use of supersonic missile systems to destroy these weapon shipments. This is the raising of extremes...or escalation. Javelins -> supersonics..and so it will go.

Spiritually, Prussia is part of modern day Germany. Geographically, it is now part of Poland.
@HopLight1
@HopLight1 2 года назад
Well, there was indeed overlap with Russia & Poland however, considering the capital of the Kingdom of Prussia was Berlin, the official language was German and their currency was the German mark..I'd say it was both geographically and spiritually the early German state.
