Ca alors, entendre Carla Bruni chanter ça après avoir juste écouté la version de Scapper Blackwell; Et en plus une chanson de Bessie Smith... il y en a qui n'ont pas honte.
OMG her voice is even sexier in English than in French which is saying a lot given that she's netted herself a head of state in France! Ok she's not the best singer in the world, possibly not even the best singer in the theatre but I bet she's the best singer at the next G8 summit!
Listen to the original by Bessie Smith (RU-vid) to understand what this song is about and how it should be sung. This is a song about egotism, despise and the pain it brings, not a adolescent love purring.
I suggest listening to Derek and The Dominos play this song. Her voice would be better if the music is played at this tempo. This solo is not up to the mark.
Once I lived the life of a millionaire Spent all my money, I just did not care Took all my friends out for a good time Bought bootleg whiskey, champagne and wine Then I began to fall so low Lost all my good friends, I did not have nowhere to go If I get my hands on a dollar again I'm gonna hang on to it till that eagle grins 'Cause no, no, nobody knows you When you're down and out In your pocket, not one penny And as for friends, you don't have any When you finally get back upon your feet again Everybody wants to be your old long-lost friend I said, "It's mighty strange, without a doubt Nobody knows you when you're down and out, yeah" When you finally get back upon your feet again Everybody wants to be your good old long-lost friend Said, "It's mighty strange, yeah Nobody knows you, nobody knows you Nobody knows you when you're down and out"
This woman knows as much about the blues as, say, Jeff Bezos does about struggling... Much too legato, that's not the way to sing this. No soul, just a 'pretty' rendition of a song that shouldn't be 'pretty.' Lacks character and soul.
