Cs often sound like Gs in the south of Italy. "Cugino" means cousin and people from Palermo say "gugino". So you're not hearing things. Vs also become Bs. Thus the profanity that sounds like "Bafangoo" is spelled "Va fan culo".

I ADORE Craig, but he does tend to, subtly, denigrate and or dismiss any positive Catholic sentiment. Betting that’s mostly his Scottish Protestant upbringing, but it’s an unusual outlier for him.
