Welcome back Paul! The original CJC video guy but I like the fact that y’all give the guys at the shop some tube time , nice mix and it’s coming from the guys that do the wrenching. Buy the full pack ! It’s worth It ! I bought the add pack then bought the fulls. Go the fulls cause you’ll want them later.
Squat less with add a pack because there is less travel with it but also keep in mind the full packs lifts the rear some not much I think your better of contacting CJC or Carli or Thuren on exact specs they have specific info good luck widat but the fulls give a much smoother ride but your gunna need minimum fox or carli shocks to get the full benefit
Super good video, thank you for providing all this free useful content, as soon as I get the money I’ll be getting myself a full suspension and post it on my channel to showcase its performance
Best Explanation ever. Why can’t everyone int automotive industry explain shit like CJC does. Cant wait to have them set up my Rig. Im gonna be coming 🇨🇦 when it happens and will share the experience for all to enjoy.
Carli is great... had it on two previous trucks. Installing commuter today on my 2019 Ram 2500 with rear air suspension.. will update it to my channel. Thanks for the great videos
Thanks for the explanation. This helps. Do you have more videos where you explain the choices that are in the various Carli packs? What about explaining the difference between the suspension kits?
You all probably dont care at all but does any of you know a method to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb lost the login password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me!
@Paxton Zachariah I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and Im in the hacking process now. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
A lot of people asking about adding the add-a-pack to F-350s, for some years, Carli says straight up DON'T do it 😢 Then they say you can't do the commuter package unless you get the full leafs... $$$
To clarify, the add a pack cannot be added to F-350 trucks. Carli also decided to differentiate the Signature Series and Commuter shocks by making the Signature Series shocks tuned for stock leaf packs and add a packs, and then tuning the Commuters around the softer Carli full replacement leaf pack.
We’re in the process of filming! We’re trying to get some footage in the dirt to show the difference between factory and the Carli sway bar so it takes a little longer.
I want to install the add a pack, and flip over those inverted lower leaves to the correct way, so it reduces the amount of squat upon putting a 1500 tongue weight trailer on it
Ok so, I’ll be towing a slide in truck camper. With that said I should only do the add a pack to maintain my factory payload? Thought the full pack would do it. Seemed counter intuitive to me but I appreciate the response, thanks.
Yeah you’ll want to stick with the add a pack. Carli does have an HD full replacement pack designed for 1,500 pounds of constant load as well. Of course you can also do a custom Deaver leaf pack designed for exactly the weight that’s in the truck!
Maybe you’ve done one already but if not could you guys do a video on the Thuren Long Travel leaf springs. You sell both right? I hear they are softer than the Carli.
Sadly both brands aren't into comparison videos so we likely won't make one, but Thuren does use a softer rate pack. Carli's is still a whole lot softer than stock, but offers a little more capacity for trucks that still need to tow/haul. In our experience Thuren packs to best on trucks that pretty much only run an empty bed.
@@CJCOffRoad Either would be good with Timbren or Sumo springs when towing right? Or are they not good towing with these either? I have a set of Timbren’s and it takes about 5 minutes per side to install or uninstall when empty- just two bolts per side. I’d really like a setup that I could drive over cracks in the road/expansion joints(small, sharp bumps) without it feeling like the back of the truck is hopping around. I have stock leafs with Fox 2.0’s. Kind of curious about the difference between Carli and Thuren since they’re both hovering around $1500.
Yeah exactly! Those are our go to solutions for towing situations and work perfect with either brand leaf pack. If you aren't carrying much in the bed outside of occasional towing, you're good with either brand. Keep in mind too that the difference is small and both are a huge improvement. If you do go with a leaf pack, we highly recommend changing shocks too as Fox 2.0s aren't set up to control a full replacement leaf pack. Carli's backcountry shock package offers a ton of bang for the buck with their custom specs and valving set up for a full leaf pack.
@@CJCOffRoad The first two or two and a half years it will have a 3500+ pound trailer in the back full time. Will need to off road to fish, hunt, and go back to logging camp.
My 2019 f350 dually rides like a dump truck , the front end feels good, but the rear bounces around. I don’t tow my trailer anymore and won’t be for a while. Can I change my spring pack out completely to something more forgiving ? (Lowering my tow rating is ok with me). The truck is more of a mall crawler 😀
Correct. The Carli long travel air bags are also specifically designed to maintain travel and suspension flex as well so you have a set up that can tow and play.
So with the ad a packs it's softer over large bumps because the thick over load spring is removed. So over smaller bumps would it be stiffer because you have more leafs in the pack?
Nope! It's a higher leaf count of thinner springs, which offers with more compliance with similar capacity. There's more to it than just the number of springs!
It's slightly better, but not a huge change. Remember you're keeping full capacity so you can't make a physics miracle happen! The Carli full replacement leaf packs are night and day smoother everywhere, but you give up about 10-12% payload capacity.
What do you recommend for a 2022 f350 SRW if I get the Commuter system? Some towing 30% and 95% highway driving? I want a great riding rig from front to back
With a Commuter system you have to run either stock leaf packs or add a packs as that's what the shock length and valving was designed for. That said, you'll get a huge improvement moving to full springs, but that would require going to a Backcountry or higher system.
The add a pack isn't in addition to the factory leaf pack. It replaces the lower most part of the pack to make it more compliant over small bump hits. For decreasing squat under a load, your best bet is to use air bags.
@@CJCOffRoad bags are too temperamental and compressors go out in our Northern climate, I'm seriously thinking about grabbing these add a packs flipping those lower three inverted leaves on the add a pack so they engage right away, then deleting the factory 1 inch thick overload but leaving the blocks. this should attain approximately the same height seeing as I have supersprings on mine which have increased the ride height considerably
What would you guys recommend for a 1300# steel flatbed? Full leaf w/add a pack? Just full leaf? How would it affect the shocks you offer? I know they are tuned specifically for rams but curious if all that extra weight would blow them out faster. End goal is a comfortable full size overland rig.
We would recommend going with one of Carli’s HD leaf spring options, which are designed for constant load over 1k lbs and then likely the 2.5” or 3.0” king shocks to get the damping and control necessary to tame a heavier rear end.
is the full progressive really worth it? I have a 2021 f350 DRW that I ordered a 5.5" pintop with the radius arms, steering stabilizer, and torsion sway bar. do the rear leafs make that much of a difference over factory?
2020 F250 with Commuter leveling kit. We don’t do a ton of off roading - we do drive some dirt roads and pull an 8K lb travel trailer. Would the add a pack be the right set up - or would I regret not going full spring with air bags?
With the Commuter system the add a pack is actually the best option! If you move up to the Backcountry the shock tuning is designed to run with the full leaf springs, and then those become the smoothest option. All depends on how you want to do things! Feel free to email us any time for help!
It doesn't add capacity, but remember that squat when loaded is pretty normal! You could always use Timbren bump stops or airbags if it bothers you, but those will both take away from ride quality.
I’ve been running full leafs on my 2016 SD w/ Backcountry 4.5”. These springs squeak like no other. Is there a fix for this? It’s quite annoying and sound ghetto as hell. So far I’ve invested in a few cans of silicon spray and each application lasts about 1-1.5 weeks. Is there a fix or something to do?
The squeaking is sadly a byproduct of having a leaf pack with lots of leaves that is probably getting a lot of dirt exposure and moving/flexing to extremes. Start by jacking the truck up from the frame to droop out the pack so you can hose out any dirt and rocks that are between the leaves. Sometimes that alone does it. Other times we find the source of the squeak is the bushings at either end of the pack, so in that case you have to pull off the pack and grease them well. That maintenance is just part of owning a performance leaf pack!
Ok so just to confirm..on a 2020 F350, you can run stock springs with the add a pack...but it removes the overload springs? Then supliment with an airbag setup? I have a 2020 F350 that I just installed the airlift 500 ultimate setup...want to still use that if possible if I do the carli 3.5 with fox or king suspension. Is that possible?
@@CJCOffRoad ok I like the sounds of this...could it work with my airlift 5000 setup that I currently have too, or would that airbag setup not work? I live in salty midwest so I have some concerns with running deaver springs as they dont hold up well in our conditions...had them on a 17 raptor...rusted up quickly. Looking forward to seeing this 3.5 inch dominator setup with add a pack and air bags on a 2020 F350! Let me be the guinea pig!!
