By taking cover on New York City’s streets, the New York Curb Market evaded regulation and served as unofficial market where New York Stock Exchange brokerages could participate in more speculative transactions. Outside, the Curb consciously rejected the institutional trappings that signified an organized securities market. Because, anyone could simply walk up to the market and trade with any other trader, the market could plausibly claim to not be an organized securities market, but simply a group of people who simply gathered to informally trade in anything, and therefore, not an organisation that could be regulated. As the New York Times put it: "Any man with a good pair of lungs is free to trade there so long as he keeps good his contracts". And who was the one keeping control & order, and protecting this lucrative "Free Market"??? It was said by someone who had been in that, that the people in that who are boisterous do not last. I remember a female sergeant in the army. She was in the mess hall. I finally asked why she was very quiet all the time. She said because not everybody is her friend. She said when she talks she's revealing information about yourself that could be used against her in some way. With the soldiers under her, they try to get friendly with her so they can get some sort of advantage and if she gets friendly with just one of them, that would ruin cohesion. She said it's best to keep everything on a professional level. She made E6 just before going to another unit. Heard she made E7. I looked her up on FB but there's nothing.
