Alcaraz, please hit the ball and put it inside your opponent's court first. Don't try to crush a ball with power to finish rally quickly, but practise to use tactics and to send a ball side-to-side. Then defend like you have to run 10km in one match. You won't die. And pls stop smiling like an idiot when you committed uf errors or your opponent won the point on good shot. It looks like a retard. You can't be next Nadal nor able to win a grand slam if you don't follow my order. Feel shame of yourself in today's match.

Wow. What a match. I really didn't expect Lorenzo to keep fighting after the 2nd set. He could even outpower Carlos in some rallies. And Alcaraz' errors in crucial moments surprised me as well. He's human, too. I'm interested to see how Lorenzo's game translates to hard courts in a couple of weeks. I think it's a shame he only came into this form at the very end of the clay season. Woah woah hold your horses. Musetti just last week got knocked out in the first round of a 250 tournament and has never won an ATP match on grass, and is average at best on hard court. So how about you don't even mention him in a same sentence with two of the three greatest players in the games history.
@J.-M.
@J.-M. Год назад
@@z1az285 Yes, his forehand technique, with that weird grip, is still a bit clumsy (even though he could hit some really powerful forehands today), he struggles when he doesn't have enough time to set up the shot, especially in defence, when he runs into his forehand corner. So it's a disadvantage on faster surfaces. But I hope he can improve it with more high-profile matches like this one.

I agree the burden of expectations on Alcaraz are unrealistic especially with the Nadal comparisons. Carlos will only improve over time, but he should learn one thing from the Musetti match. His spot serving was very poor and Musetti was much better in that respect with big accurate serving. Carlos Concentration was really poor today. It's surprising he took it to three sets because he made a lot of really bad errors. I'm not totally surprised because Musetti was part of the reason, but he was his own worst enemy too. He fought hard but Musetti was just that little bit better overall. But Musetti's serving was impressive. That was the difference, no question. His forehand was really big at times as well

Not to take any credits from him of course but I believe both he and Sinner are fortunate as Alcaraz draws all the attention and plays under more pressure, which should be an extra source of motivation against Alcaraz and also relieve the stress to some degree. So finally he proved his quality and talent. I was impressed with his forehand today and also his mental toughness after losing 5 match points. He kept his cool in the 3rd set, great fight. Alcaraz was not in his typical final shape today, but he was probably surprised by Lorenzo’s level. Also he should think about variating the ad serve which was totally predictable by the end of the match, and it was not really working for him that well. Mixing some T-serve in from time to time or in the big moments could make Musetti less comfortable on the return.

For anyone who plays tennis, or even for those who don't... the amount of top-spin on Musetti's backhand, especially when attacking Alcaraz's BH, was off the charts. And insanely difficult to execute and control. That was the key to his victory today. As he was able to push back Alcaraz and also extract errors from that side. Also, he was able to generate those heavy top-spin, acute angle returns off Carlos's serve, not possible through a two handed backhand. The only other current player with such a versatile backhand is Richard Gasquet. Every one else, like Wawrinka, Thiem, Tsitsipas and Federer hits much flatter on the backhand side.

As a tennis coach and player myself...i agree with your assessment. The loopy top-spin shots which kicks off the surface is not feasible or extremely difficult with a two hander and playing that shot with a one handed backhand consistently, requires extraordinary skill, timing and control.

All true perhaps, but Musetti stands too far back in the court to receive. Almost everybody seems to nowadays, the only exceptions being the Fed (whose _always_ the exception) and the Djoker (who's got to be the greatest RoS in history). I'd like to some of these "wayback" guys play Cressy on a fast or medium-fast surface. 😄

From these short highlights it looks like the key to winning this match was Musetti's incredibly powerful forehand. He could smack it flat with speed to finish off the points when needed even on this clay surface while his looping topspin backhand groundstrokes despite being less powerful, were deep and reliable and that's critical in keeping Alcaraz from both attacking that side in the rallies and making his play effectively from the back of the court.
