Righteous posting. Greatest Puerto Rican fighter of all time. Cotto is a one-handed fighter, Trinidad two-fisted but trended to purely slug late in his career, Gomez come closest to Ortiz, while Benitez lacked the toughness but had smarts to spare.
I agree that Ortiz is the greatest Puerto Rican boxer of all time and not Gomez like most people and experts says. Ortiz had a better resume than Gomez and in fact, he had a better resume than Duran himself at lightweight.
I respect your opinion Carlos Rosa but Tito should be given a bit more credit. He truly was an all time great. A heavy-handed 2 fisted fighter that could box a bit; cut off the ring etc. and a REAL multi-division champion! 147-60lbs. Cotto IMO shouldn't even be mentioned along side Ortiz! Gomez to me, along with Pryor & Chavez are among the most overrated in recent memory! those 3's first titles weren't even in ANY 1 of the original 8 weight divisions. Opting for jr/super titles instead. And as for Benitez? you're absolutely right! defensive genius no doubt! but boxing is an aggressive combat sport and unfortunately he was feather-fisted and severely lacking in essential areas.
