the psych writers room tweeted in 2010 that he was pan, but imo that tweet was absolutely not made in good faith, considering it was made very close to the airtimes of 1) an episode that establishes lassiter to have some admiration for ronald reagan AKA the president responsible for the deaths of an entire generation of gay and bi men, and 2) an ep where shawn and gus see lassiter's internet search history and are deeply disgusted, which was almost certainly meant to be interpreted as a qu**r thing. and just in general with how much lassiter is gay-coded in a /negative/ way, i feel pretty certain that the attitude of that tweet was not "hey guess what here's some pan representation!" but simply "lmao lassiter is so weird he isn't even one of the NORMAL sexualities." in any case it was never explicity followed up on within the show, so it's not canon in a way that really matters and therefore not representation. i steadfastly hc him as gay because i'm a gay man and related a lot to him and very easily can pinpoint the way he interacts with women to be lacking actual attraction, and for previous relationships to be the result of comphet.
Sebastian Dean that makes sense I recently rewatched some episodes and was sad at how rude a lot of the jokes were. Race jokes, and Shawn also even before he started dating Juliet would make some inappropriate remarks, specifically there was a comment about whether or not she was calling from the shower and that’s just off the top of my head. Not to mention there were slot of negative jokes about lgbt+ . Carlton just seems to have a lot of insecurities and therefore projects this by having “man crushes” and overcompensating for his insecurities by trying to be what he thinks a “real” man is like.
The first 3 arent gay at all, one is asking about a suit color, in the second hes literally talking about a woman, and in the third hes talkin about a sick mustache
he's 1) fawning over a man (did you miss the face he made when juliet's talking about the fbi guy in the shower?? lmao), 2) clearly attracted to masculinity and 3) focusing on the appearance of another man. being super into other men's facial hair is one of those "acceptable" masculine ways that men get to love other men without tipping off internalized homophobia. it's about the intricate rituals.
