Yesssssss, someone else who gets this!🥺 They were always the planned end-game since the original.. whilst they both concluded on their friendship as prior, they searched for partners in other people who never lasted and in the long run would have Carly realizing Freddie had been the one for her all along and right in front of her and of course, Freddie's love for her never died their, just that he tried to suppress it over the years not to jeopardize the beautiful bond of friendship they already had💕💯

Uhm, iSavedYourLife episode actually came before the seddie dating arc. After he saved her life and Carly returned his feelings, Sam got into his head that Carly was only doing so because of what he did for her not that she truly did love him so Freddie took the bold step and broke things off with Carly just not to take advantage of her and said they can wait a while till they're both sure of what they feel and want and he'd psyched to be her boyfriend then, Carly was a bit saddened but later went with it; that left an open door to their plausible relationship in the future, although with time it became a sensitive subject they both were afraid to bring up again..And yes, Freddie DID date and sort of 'settled' for Sam just because she confessed to liking him and he couldn't have Carly at the time or rather, he assumed Carly was kinda a dead end on the basis she still prioritized their friendship over anything else that were to happen between them so he gave things with Sam a try thinking maybe the intense hatred dynamic they could have had a solution in them dating but we saw how much a disaster that was and so did he and Sam, they admitted it to themselves that they were just forcing their connection/dynamic into something it wasn't and really there were no actual basis to Freddie reciprocating her feelings in the first place, he had no antecedent feelings for her before the whole drama came up and after the break up, in iOpenARestaurant in season 6, he showed he still had feelings for Carly, even asking her if it's too late for her to love him back which made Carly flustered(she was surprised he still felt that way about her despite his dating Sam few episodes earlier) and just when she was about to respond, they got interrupted by Sam (unintentionally tho) and even later that episode Sam noticed Freddie still has feelings for Carly, she called him out on it but because of the awkwardness, he scurried away and didn't deny it firmly either... in the last episode, him returning Carly's kiss was culminating proof of both of their unresolved feelings for each other by the end.🥺 Now in the revival, since the kiss went untalked about till she was in Italy, I guess she took it as closure since she was moving far away and they might not have been able to date again as they'd hoped so at least they can still preserve their beautiful friendship she wouldn't lose for anything, meanwhile Freddie thought completely otherwise and that was where the whole misunderstanding came in.
