The most insane part is that Melo’s second guess for Jokic wearing #15 was that he might have been a fan paying homage, instead of assuming that Jokic may have worn the number before 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
@@spiritualhussle1297A former french nba player Kevin seraphin, who was his teammate in New york said on several occasions that Melo was a diva and a terrible leader.
Notice how in Melo's jacket it says "stay me7o", that's your true legacy Melo, N°7 for the Knicks. The moment Jokic won his first MVP N°15 became his number.
The number he reps on his clothing brand is 7, NOT 15 How does Denver have any obligation to pre-retire your number if you don’t even celebrate/identify with it?
I think Melo is starting to realize that he is going to be forgotten. He never took legacy seriously until it was too late. It's starting to dawn on him that he never really had an impact and all he cared about was making money.
@@xXSprMgaAwsmFxyHtXxhell no, different playstyles and Melo went to a wcf in his prime. Tmac got knocked out in the first round every year except his last year where he got gifted a championship for averaging 0 points
this man is just bitter and insecure that a second round draft pick did more for the nuggets organization than he ever did. the organization doesnt owe him anything.
He’s speaking facts you dudes are just weird. You will NEVER see someone rocking 13 in Houston and Harden didn’t win them anything either…. You never saw anyone rocking 3 in Philly either.
@@jamesonedwardsii4943did you hear his Chauncey Billups point Billups was a finals mvp and they still gave hos number away to Iverson and mcgrady melo aint special and didn't do anything in Denver 1 wcfinals appearance thts it.
@@kasperkilos407 you’re weird like I said. Billups didn’t change the direction of an entire franchise. The pistons had already won multiple championships before him and that’s also trash Detroit Pistons management anyway. Did you read MY points? Melo was in the NBA he hears whispers in those locker rooms this isn’t some random thing. They should have never given anyone 15. You dudes are just weird because Jokic won a championship and you’re trained like dogs to believe that’s the only thing that matters.
Pay homage to Melo is crazy 😭. Ain’t nothing about his career worthy of doing that and that’s not even disrespecting. It’s just the truth. For how talented he was he never really amounted to anything
Pretending like peak Kobe and bron WITH BETTER TEAMS didn’t have anything to do with that is nasty work🌚 keep being a delusional casual tho and leaving out context to fit a narrative
@@houseofentertainment4470even when they both had god awful teams they still played so much better than melo's inefficient scoring ass. Why the fuck u trynna make it seem like thats why melo didnt win. He was given the chance to join chicago in 2014 with derrick rose and them boys but chose to chase a bag instead of trying to attempt to win a chip. Plus bron dragged a god awful team in '07 to the finals, teammates were literally worse than chauncey billups in '09 when he went to denver. Thats some more context for yo casual ass trynna make it seem like melo would ever be the x factor to a contending team. Just say it with me, melo was just a shot chucker who wanted nothing more than to shoot 20-30 times a game and go home.
Now a days jokic does know about melo and his legacy, but for melo to think jokic was paying homage to him? Thats a reach. Growing up, jokics idols were all european from euro league. He knew who jordan and magic were, still, his idols played in Europe.
3:58 Exactly. They didn't give up his number because they wanted to erase him, they just never retired his number because they didn't feel like it. He asked for a trade *in his prime* it's not like he was on the team for 18 years. Then someone else came along and began the best player in franchise history.
Melo stayed in Denver for 8 yrs but left, he's a scoring machine and all and made Denver look better. But...Jokic got his ring on his 9th yr with the Nuggets which shows patience, loyalty to fans and resilience matters. He did so much more for the Nuggets. Melo can never...
I have lived in Colorado since the early 90's. One of the reasons he signed with the Knicks is because his wife's TV show was there. And wanted a big bag. The Nuggets were planning on rebuilding, because of all the assets they spent to put together two teams around melo. Furthest he got them was a western conference finals showing. He is the reason they built a team around two foreign players, so they would stick around long enough to win a championship in a small market city for basketball. Jokic and Murray's names will be cemented here.
It’s not even that he walked, he forced them to trade him when they could’ve competed in the playoffs that season and then he fucked over the knicks because they had to trade their assets for him
One thing people forget about - In 2014 Melo had a chance to join a Chicago Bulls team that included prime Derrick Rose, Jimmy Butler, Joakim Noah, Pau Gasol, etc but he chose to sign with the Knicks for a little more guaranteed money. He already had more money than anyone could spend in 3 lifetimes but he wanted more rather than winning a championship and cementing his legacy. A scoring SF is exactly what that Bulls team was missing. Sad!
well, that's not quite the whole story... melo is from NY, and there is a lot to be said for becoming a home town here... i mean if actually won in NY he would become a legend there for life... he'd never pay for a thing again... AND more money? i'd have gone to NY too... plus he had staudemire there, who was an absolute beast and played a different position so he wouldnt' clash with melo melo is a team cancer douche though
@@Chris56076 the fact you compared Kobe to melo is cringe and disrespectful. Melo did the bare minimum for Denver compared to Jokic. He wanted to be in East coast for Lala and forced his way outta Denver, so yes f*** Melo. He a disgrace saying that 🗑️.
I agree with 100% you said in this video! Chauncey said it best about Melo, something along the line of "he would score 20 in a win and be miserable, and the next game he would give 35 in a loss and go around high-fiving everyone". Something the Lithuanian dudes pointed out in another podcast, we wore jerseys numbered 4 to 15 in Europe, with 15 being stretchiest and longest. After the games, our moms would wash them out, and we would bring them back for the next practice. You can get a clue why the chubby kid would wear #15. 😅 I get Melo being self-centric/legacy driven and all, but when it's all said and done, you could ask people around Denver and Colorado who was their no. 15, and there would be one answer... And I think that's all that matters.
@@JohnyMcNeal Nah, we had 12 men roster, numbers 4-15 in Serbia (generation born second half of the 80's). Maybe it started later on, but until our junior years (14-15) when i quit, it was like that. Plus, 1-3 in Fiba basketball was reserved for referees showing points, and 15 was the largest number you could signal to the desk with two hands, as it was explained to me once by the ref.
Carmelo a fool for this one. No hate on Melo, but absolutely not. Why Melo even care, he forced himself out. It's okay man. Jokic is wayyyy better than him, like they aren't even in the same universe.
@@Shagrickneil1 and that's absolutely within his right, no one is questioning that. However, it's the Nuggets that don't like him because of that if they truly are petty. that's like being in a relationship and your girl leaves you, that's fine I respect the decision, but that doesn't mean im about to bring you again or talk about in the greatest of lights. I mean he's a great scorer, but they don't make Statues or special reservations for only great scorers with nothing to back it up.
@@Shagrickneil1u sure? As a denver fan i remember them getting to the wcf. Then had a full yr with chauncey which i believe we woulda went to the finals. But instead he decided to force his way out the same year. January/February. It is what it is. He didnt wanna be here. He wanted his legacy in ny. He can stay there as he wishes
@@jawz2x it’s been known they wanted to rebuild and he didn’t want to. He just wanted to add a superstar. Now Jokic is clearly the better 15 and deserves his jersey to be retired more. But Denver shouldn’t be mad at him for wanting to play elsewhere. And at the time NY had stoudemire. He probably thought they could’ve done something with the two of em.
Nurk realized Joker was gonna start and asked for a trade. Joker found out and offered to come off the bench. That's the kind of team player he is. Denver, you got a real one!
In Serbia and throughout Europe, practical numbers for sports jerseys range from 1 to 15, with #15 reserved for the biggest player on the team. This is why Nikola chose to wear the number 15.
Nuggets knew Jokic was going to be great so much, they drafted him in the 2nd, and they drafted a Center in the first to be ahead of Jokic as the starter.
This whole interview just proves everything that people have thought about Melo all along. He’s selfish, vain, narcissistic and wasn’t a good team player. He is his own worst enemy and the very reason why he never won a chip. He wouldn’t have ever made a Conference Finals if it wasn’t for Chauncey Billups.
@@eloheemdagod5432 bro. The history is there. Melo wasn’t a good teammate. If he was, who knows what he could have accomplished? But he was selfish. Ex players have said similar stuff.
They gave Jokic #15 thinking he'd be out of the league in a year. They never thought he'd be a 2x league mvp and 1x finals mvp. I'm sure when Melo first saw Jokic wear #15 he didn't make a fuss about it either. He's only doing that now because Jokic has surpassed him as a Nugget. Should've had this energy right from the jump and not wait until Jokic found success.
No, Jokic picked 15 because it’s the number he always wore. It’s not complicated, Melo was never getting his jersey retired but now he has an excuse to say why
Thank you for making me laugh 😂... but honestly, that's all you can do after this type of delusional podcast... Carmelo has lost the little credibility he had after this.
-- Agree. His efficiency for all the scoring he did...was basically neutral. He can score 30, 40pts a night and he wasn't any better if he sat on the bench. Linsanity is a perfect example. Lin isn't the kind of players to lead the Knicks to the Promise Land (even if he stayed the following year), but the Knicks were winning a whole lot more wl Melo on the bench.
If he cared about his jersey being retired he should have played winning basketball instead of padding his pts per game. Melo is the reason why melo will be forgotten.
We really supposed to believe. Jokic "the guy who doesn't care about basketball, and treats it like a side gig". Saw 15... and paid homage to a guy before him?
The great George Karl coached the Nuggets to 57 wins after selfish Melo left for the Knicks. When Melo was there, he couldn't even win 55 games. This says plenty about "TEAM".
The rebuilding Nuggets had more wins than the “contending” Knicks in 5 out of Melo’s 6 full seasons in New York. New York had 1 more win than Denver in the 6th season, and they both missed the playoffs 🤷♂️ he chose to go to a terrible organization, and was heavily influence by his (now ex) wife lol I understand why it’s hard for him to accept the truth on that
All Melo is doing is making ppl go through his time in Denver w/a fine tooth comb!! Remember when George Karl said he was lazy & not a very good leader 🤔!?!?!!
I've heard the national guys all basically admit Melo demanded out of Denver, took them until he retired to call him out on it though so I assume he leaked a lot to the press.
@@Pickn4Gold He told the organization he's not signing an extension & other organizations told Denver to get something for him, don't just let him walk!!
One of the most disrespectful number snubs imo is Derrick Fisher. He wasn’t the Main guy but he was a clutch shot hitter when he was needed the most. Contributed to the lakers 5 rings and his number (2) gets passes around like a blunt to a new player every year. Surprised he never complained about it
Melo is a narcissist, he can never get happy when he is not in the lime light, He can’t even be happy when his teammate got their own bag, He is just that selfish and narcissistic
Number 15 is guaranteed to be retired now, problem solved lol. Clearly neither the Nuggets cared that Anthony wore number 15, nor did Anthony care about the number himself because he wore 7 after the Nuggets.
This channel is pure gold. I am in a marathon watching pretty much all his videos and I never get disappointed . This is the type of content NBA “analysts” in TV should offer instead of disrespecting players basically because they hate them or because they have a damaged ego. Amazing work
I mean. Retiring a jersey should be something really special. Ie kobe, Jordan, bird, brady type shit. Something you'll never see again.! Not going to the playoffs a few times and losing and then forcing your way out! 😂😂
it is sustainable , just stop it . They could stop retiring numbers at the last 15 and everyone that joins would have to wear those numbers if they really had to 1 thousand years down the line.
@@cyrilkelvinschlummer3134 actually they do. Napoli retired Maradona's number 10, Roma retired Totti's number 10. There are football (soccer) clubs that don't retire numbers, like La Liga teams, and there are those who do.
The fact he just has a yes man agreeing with everything he say, i'm not sure how far this podcast will go. I lost so much respect for Melo, I don't even watch that show no more.
Denver has a much bigger history than you are aware of - Alex English, Dan Issel, David Thompson, coaches Larry Brown, Doug Moe, the ABA. Not being aware of their history doesn’t erase it. Carmelo left for the big city, he made his choice, #15 will be retired but with the MVP’s name on it.
Let’s be real nobody expected Jokic to be what he has become. With that being said Melo is only bothered because Jokic has accomplished much more than him. We can honestly say Nikola Jokic is the greatest Denver Nuggets player in their history. Two regular season MVPS. And he brought the City its first title. Melo has a problem Bcus when people mention the number 15 in Denver they are going to think of Jokic instead of Melo.
Melo would have no problems at all with this if jokic wasn't ballin and got a chip. Someone already wore 15 on denver before jokic and melo had nothing to say. I also gurantee if jokic was black he wouldn't say nothing either.
we gotta STOP CALLING FORMER NBA PLAYERS “GREATS” “LEGENDS” when THEY ARE NOT. Carmelo Anthony is not a legend, he’s already forgotten, his GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT was winning a GOLD MEDAL. stop giving players titles they don’t deserve. Carmelo flopped career and isn’t a legend
Giannis and Ray Allen both drafted by the Bucks share #34, however Giannis will be the player whos number is retired for the team. It is about the bigger legacy left upon the Franchise
At least with the Giannis thing we can say it had been quite a few years since Ray Allen cemented his legacy when Giannis came in and the bucks knew they weren’t going to retire his number. With Melo it was a lot closer to him leaving when Jokic got drafted, but he wasn’t going to get his jersey retired regardless
10-20 years down the line, when they think 15, they think Joker: A team player, a LEADER, and a winner. Not only that, but they drafted Jamal and MPJ to build around his strengths and cover the weaknesses. It took time, but they got it done. All Melo will be remembered for, is a good 20-30ppg guy who left and never got to the WCF or 2nd round again
I have genuinely hated Melo since what he did to JLin in New York. Bro got butthurt cuz someone else was the number 1 option and threw him under the bus. MF is so self centered he couldn’t take a back seat and it clearly showed once he couldn’t give up a starting spot in his late 30s when he was regressing💀
I'll never forgive him for making our team trade away our entire future just because his selfish ass couldn't wait a few months for his contract to expire. New York hates Carmelo.
They gave jokic 15 to spite melo, not necessarily because they knew jokic would become a legend himself, but because they wanted to show that 15 meant nothing to them and can be given away to any player. Denver hates melo for how he left them, but he should have had his number unused until melo retired so they could have given 15 a chance to be retired as melo's number.
They’re delusional. As a nuggets fan, we’ve hated melo ever since he left Denver. Ownership clearly hates him too, why else would you give mid role player Randolph #15 a few years later. They never had any intention of retiring melo’s number. 2 playoff wins in 8 years is never enough to retire a number. Dude didn’t really do anything for us and left on bad terms, explain how the franchise owes him that honor. He would 100% get booed at his retirement ceremony. I don’t see a world where jokic isn’t Denver royalty, even if he retires or requests a trade unexpectedly. He’s given and accomplished everything for this franchise.
Most of the ego maniacs from the NBA have chilled out after retirement, Yes many have strong opinions but they become humble and pretty well grounded with age... most of them.
false, melo did NOT do enough in denver to get a retired jersey... he played there what only 6 years which is too little... but it's ESPECIALLY too little when you have no mvps and no championships to show for it... a 6 year career with an mvp and a chip (or 2 of either) is probably the minimal requirement for something like that... since you gotta show SOMETHING if you can earn an honor like that in only 6 years...
