I've always thought so too. From the moment she enters the "room", she exudes flirtatiousness and seems like she's great fun to be around.. Men have a hard time resisting that, which was what made Carmen a *femme fatale*. Literally!
Definitely my kind of Carmen, and the most convincing and sensible Cherubino I've found so far (Agnes Baltsa was my first choice, but Maria Ewing totally won my heart). I discovered this amazing singer earlier today just to learn she passed away a few days ago. I simply cannot stop listening to her, and lost count of how many times I played her magnificent performance of Voi Che Sapete. I'm pretty sure if Mozart himself could hear her performance he would fall in love. She is brilliant, and just won another fan of opera. Rest in peace, angel in human form.
OH JOyous day! Dear God! Brava Maria! Absolutely one of the best Carmen. Such an actress, mama mia! Wonderful direction and production as well.Bravi to all! THank you!
@Dusty Grady She certainly does (look like her mother). You have poor vision. I hope Rebecca has inherited her beautiful mother's great talent as well.
As Callas said in an interview (paraphrase) Carmen takes the role of the man; i.e., she picks out the potential lover and decides whether or not the connection is going to be made, it doesn't work both ways. She's the one who decides.
