Great video. The Iveco never disappoints. Was surprised none of the people had rock-rails and just the plastic steps, seems like a cheap upgrade compared to an expensive fix.

Most off roaders will drive until stuff needs replacing and many of these company vehicles were not intended to go off roading...LOL... surprises for everyone.

OHH! Never pull one end of the tree protector through the other! You actually lessen the strength of the protector, risk damaging the tree (ringbarking) keep the protector flat to the bark and link both ends to a shackle, better, safer and stronger! :-D
@4WDTV
@4WDTV 3 года назад
The strap design ensures you will never ringbark the tree, the surface area is far too great. This technique is well used and proven but if forces are going to be excessive, such as when using a snatch block then it is safer to use both loops. It is though worth noting that adding a steel shackle is adding another potential missile to the circuit and often the strap eyes are too big to fit both within the hook. So actually using no shackle and only one loop for lighter pulls is far safer, more efficient and a lot easier...as in less things to go wrong.
@overlandready

@@4WDTV A few things here, using both loops doubles the load capability of the tree protector, P formation is rated at 80% so, the maths is really simple there, 80% or 200%? I know which is better. Secondly the shackle (or hook) is better to be on a 200% than an 80% rated equipment, the synth rope is the more likely to break providing you have done the due diligence and used the correct rated equipment. therefore the shackle/hook will go tree-ward not to opperator unless in the P formation at which the synth rope is probably stronger than the tree protector, so the break is more likely to be the TP not the rope - that then means the shackle/hook is heading your way. Again, not the best scenario, and that other 120% of the rating you'll wish you'd have used. Ringbarking occurs when the tree is cut all the way around, this on a soft bark tree can very much occure with a P formation as it locks all around the tree, it won't be as tight as a rope or wire, but still capable of damaging the tree. Remember that what might have been acceptable in recovery 2-20 years ago is not necessarily the best practice now. If you're really concerned about flying shackles, get a soft shackle in there, not as good but won't have anywhere near the impact force of a metal one. Good shows other than that.

funny how Melbourne open up the bush meanwhile in nsw they lock it up
@4WDTV
@4WDTV 2 года назад
Well that is very complex! Are you referring to0 COVID restrictions or National Parks? Vic does have amazing access to forests for 4wd activities but we are seeing a push towards locking more up and restricting access and use through National Parks.

The safety blankets you use have pockets that should be filled with sand or dirt, something that will aid the blanket to hit the ground if the rope breaks. Without any additional weight it is pointless using it at all.
@4WDTV
@4WDTV 3 года назад
Hi Terry, the pockets are for extra weight or storage (shackles, snatch blocks, etc). Most good branded winch blankets exceed the minimum required weight for a winch dampener so there is no ned to add weight. Extreme competition winch races represent the pinnacle of safety within our sport and they never add extra weight to their blanket as they work correctly as they are.

Can you please tell me the names of the tracks Thanks

It is mostly Muirs Track we think but basically a loop from the main camp ground where everyone unloads their motor bikes.
