I remember when top fuel cars were only good for 1200 hp and we thought that was unbelievable And now they are 11000 hp so what you have done on a budget is absolutely incredible I am very impressed I go back to my previous week’s comment Wheely bars 👍👍👍 I’m not disappointed in you for not getting a 7 you did a super job
If you could go back when you first got that car, and told yourself it would run 8.2 seconds consistently, you would not believe it, don’t sell your achievement short, amazing job brother.
The Mazda definitely has the potential, personally I think it could do the 7 with some suspension tuning, soften up the rear a little and stiffen up the front to stop it from continuing its momentum into a wheely, maybe mess with the antisquat adjustment a little too
Can't wait to see see what's in store for the new project carnage style. Can't blame a guy for trying. Never say never. A 7 is still possible. Mazda Miata Barra is one of my favourites.
You're into proper drag raging territory now... well into the land of diminishing returns. Many people in here probably watched the struggles of Leroy trying for that elusive 7.××× pass. 2 tenths doesn't sound like much, but really, it's alot of time... a 2.5% improvement that boost can't help you achieve is alot. Sooo much has to go right for it to happen. Fix the wheelies at 4200... then blow the tyres off it... Having a car capable of 7's is far from a guarantee to run the number.
Well done on the times so far , if it was easy to run sevens everyone would be doing it and it ain’t . As a guy who just recently started to run 8 second ets I can tell you all about the invisible / impenetrable wall that’s seemingly impossible to break through. Hey. I remember watching the first seven second pro stock pass in Australia at Calder . Driven by billy gliden in joe politios car . It was under weight but the crowd went wild . It’s not fkn easy ,😊
Scotty, don't beat yourself up over it as you and the guys did exceptionally well. I mean a MX-5 running the very low 8's is pretty bloody good! Is there another MX-5's doing this with a Barra engine? I very much doubt it. As a budget drag car, you can't beat what it's done. To get a better time you'd have to pour a shit ton more cash & it's better to stay as it is. Can't wait to the *Ahem* LS project! This MX-5 series you guys have put out has shown that there's better alternatives than either using Holden, Ford or Chrysler.

Every .1s improvement takes an exponential amount of $$$ and effort in the 7/ 8s bracket. So well done for persevering. I'd love to see you guys chase a 7s pass at some point so don't hang up your hairdressing scissors yet mate!
All fair! I think it warrants mentioning, because I haven't seen it pointed out: on the original wheelie from last week, the RHR wheel is actually off the ground briefly.

Its been one hell of a ride that's for sure! The car has the ability to do a 7, what it needs will take experimentation I think. Once you enter the 8 second bracket, things become that much harder to extract time. I look forward to seeing what's coming next!
Scotty, sometimes you gotta let it go, you guys did a great job and walked away safe, all those wheel stands that car has got to be hanging it’s tongue out, it doesn’t have all that great of a chassis or cage to be going that fast if something bad happens at the end of the track, your life is worth more than a 7 second slip

Have you tried different diff ratios or thought about trying a different auto? Good luck with getting the other projects finished for drag challenge, look forward to seeing them in action.
Excited to see a new project if it's going to be as fast or faster... Hope it has a decent length wheelbase! I like seeing the mx5 because it's your fastest car, but don't worry, we will all move on if you give it a FITTING (cough faster) replacement lol Keep up the good work Scotty.
Mothballs is better than sold Scotty, a few options in engine managment and control for softer launches and wheely bars if it comes to that but it is a short chassis and it is what it is. Thanks to the powers that be for giving it another crack :-)
it's phenomenal what you've achieved, I've not lost faith, I'm equally as excited on the next project. I hope you've not lost enthusiasm, it's not always about the target, rather the story, and I've enjoyed this one. Anyhoo keep striving for stories.
You made a good point about the open top-is your ET getting held up by wind drag? Also, I noted your battery was mounted high and to the rear. Could mounting the battery lower and forward-say, in the passenger footwell-help counter torque effect at launch? It's hooking up amazingly well, so lowering and moving weight forward might trade a bit of grip for better balance at launch.
@@STREETMACHINETV those of us who tinker know just how easy it isn’t. One of the reasons I watch is because you fail and show that failure with all the frustration and heartbreak that comes with it. Then you dust yourself off and try again. It’s inspirational.

At least you'd clean up as a bracket job in that thing. The Cresta wants in that zone too but it proves elusive which shows horsepower is only part of the equation... other factors are in the loop also....
It may be the videos but the mx5 looks like it could do with some suspension setups. That might help also keep the front down so you can put more into it.
love the little mx5 but its kind at its limit for the mo ! maybe when it comes back go with laser height sensor and timing cut !!!! than ugly wheel bars But hope the new projects taxi because we been waiting from EP 8 FOR IT RUN 10'S love jen xxxx
As much as I like the MX-5 if you have another project, that's going to be as fast and it's road registered. You got my attention. I've seen other cars that are road registered run 7s on your channel before during drag challenge so I know it can be done.

throw a 65kg piliot in that rig and it does 7.9. When it comes to .300 of a second diet comes into the convo. Dont beat yourself up brother, Id be proud if i had a beer gut like yours and a Mazda like that.. 👍
Is it all about the wheelbase? Looks like it needs wheelie bars and a slower rise on the rear end so it can 60ft better. Maybe talk with others who have SWB cars that are getting into the 7's and see what their thoughts are on setup.
Be interesting to see if the new car can get more views, this seems to be the most popular car by far looking from the outside in in terms of views … box should definitely stay in this.

It's running 3.25 right now,we could go 3.0 but that might be too tall. I used to have a great program for testing all this stuff, but that was 20 years ago, and nobody has recreated it for modern computers
