Four-time Grammy-nominated pianist and composer Gerald Clayton hosts a master class for jazz pianists in which he coaches NYO Jazz alumni Seth Finch, Miles Lennox, and Hannah Mayer. Featured repertoire includes everything from jazz standards to original compositions written by each of the outstanding young musicians.

Just watched Gerald’s intro, and as a musician/teacher myself, I was delighted to hear him mention a concept I emphasize in my own work: singing what’s in your head, and playing what you’re singing. As I like to say, minds think alike. 😬

Love your insights Gerald. I am an intermediate level jazz pianist always trying to incorporate more of me into the music and more of the music into me. There is always a mountain to climb and one never reaches the top. But the climb is so important.

At 4 minutes 4: 44 Gerald( who is a genius player im my view) is saying the notes your playing..to be honoust nowadays that is said so often but.he means rather " Tones" because what we play directly.can never.be notes...They are Tones...what we write.are.Notes......

People also so Say: " what we.hear uin our head...." to be honoust.the.Music.is also outside our heads But.maybe.the head and the.Brains are.perceiving mechanism.but the more.musical we become the.more.conscipus we.are.that music is realy far.beyond pur head somewhere in the cosmos(Pythagoras: Harmony of the Spheres..the.Golden verses etc. ))
