They don't let you take pictures but they do depot tours with Intercity Railway Society and others. Really interesting to go on and see just how many plates they're spinning

Good video - thanks. Out of interest, how do you get round the back of the depot area? Couldn’t work it out the last time I visited Carnforth.

hi thanks for watching, so if you come out of carnforth station car park turn left and go up the hill towards silverdale and you go about 200-300 yards and there is a left hand turn and its a little road that goes to the coast line along the river as you turn in theres another left hand turn up a hill you can see a house on the corner thats were you walk up and its a public footpath by the old entrance to the museum i just park on the side of the road by the river or park in the train station and walk up, hope that makes sense, regards tom

Interesting video. I always imagined the place to be clinically clean and organised.

thanks for watching, it does seem rather neglected and it doesnt look like the original engine shed even has a roof on it now as you can see netting through the doors on the ceiling to prevent debree falling onto the stock, if your on facebook ive put more pics of the yard on there

@@northwesttrainsmodelsmy understanding is the original shed is badly in need of work but it's a listed building so they can't do anything to it

Too much stuff not enough staff for decent organisation I think.

The Indoor areas are extremely organised though

@@OlanKenny thats good to now mite look into that, i herd from someone who used to work there that they were letting the building deteriorate beyond repair so theyd then have the excuse to demolish it same as the other neglected listed structures that was there which is a shame that theyve just been left to decay and also the old signal box which looks like it could collapse at any time from the timber rotting i hope that person was wrong about the engine shed building though and one day it does get work done on it as theres not many left in some ways i wish i was abit older so i could remember it as a railway museum and centre, i visited the year it shut but luckily had one of the last rides on the miniature railway before it was sold of

I thought and was lead to believe that GBRF were buying up all our old Diesels such as those your vid to be refurbished for their future operational needs

not as far as i am aware from this site, as far as i now all working locos there are owned or hired by wcr and to be honest looking at all the locos outside left on the sidings id say they were to far gone for restoration (i hope am wrong), ive been going to the same spot on and of for years and ive seen the same locos with less and less parts on them so i think there literally there for stripping to keep the rest of the fleet operational, there maybe more engines in the shed that are stored waiting for new owners, i could make out what looked like a class 26 in br green which looked like the one from lakeside haverthwaite railway and also a small tank engine but aside from a few shunters the only other locos visible in the engine sheds were in wcr livery

It might be one of the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Locos. Looks a bit small to be Tangmere or either of the Fives
