Enjoyed your tour Neil, we sailed on her in March, from 🇦🇺a trial run for a transpacific cruise of Alaska Japan and SE Asia back to Australia in mid September. We gave her the thumbs up, because exactly as you said about the top decks, whilst they don’t have all the FUN ship bits, it is a great viewing platform the Inside Passage and ports. We enjoyed her, plenty of spaces to settle down in, read, listen to music or people watch. To all the naysayers out there, you picked the wrong ship for your requirements, if it didn’t meet your demographic

My granddaughter who is currently a dancer on Carnival Spirit will be joining the Luminosa in May. My Son and his wife both dancers worked on ship when in the hands of Costa. Thankyou it gives me a better picture when I think of her

Our daughter was a dancer before she left it behind for corporate life. She has a couple of friends that saw the world dancing on cruise ships. I always look forward to the shows! We’ll be on the Luminosa in June & it sounds like we may see your granddaughter.

Loved loved loved this video!!! The pointer was a unique and fantastic touch, as was the deck layout on the left! DH and I are sailing with another couple on July 4, 2024, and I'm anxious to see the ship! It doesn't seem to be getting very good reviews right now, but this video thoroughly helped. Thank you!!! 🙂

Thank you for the positive and informative videos about your Alaska cruise! We will be sailing on the Luminosa in one week, and we are looking forward to the beautiful scenery of Alaska. The videos of the ship look more laid back than our past Caribbean cruises and that is just what we are looking for this time.

If that’s what you are looking for then you have picked the right ship. We love her. She has an old world vibe about her. Plenty of deck space up top. Do as much or as little as you want. Use the app for seating in the dining room We didn’t have to wait longer than 20min and they give you 10min to get there, so you can book and be having drinks or finishing up getting dressed in your cabin. It’s brilliant. Have a good cruise, I thoroughly recommend the pizza for supper if you feel a bit peckish. Happy 🚢

@@NogVlog we will take that onboard, I’m not a early bird, but I may have to pay more attention to docking 🥴 Doing the transpacific from Seattle back to Brisbane via Alaska, Japan and SE Asia in September. Btw, did the Luminosa manage to dock in the Alaskan ports, or were there more anchorages than docks ?

We happened to be the 5th ship for the only 4 available berths in Juneau, so had to anchor and tender in there. Normal docks all other ports. You can check the Juneau scheduler here and you will be tendering if ACT is next to your ship on the date you are there: claalaska.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/JNU-Juneau-2023-1.pdf

I know you were asking @chassell9478 specific to the transpacific sailing, but I personally would not choose the Luminosa for such a long sailing. Nice ship, but i think it may get dull for that long.

Very good tour. We’ll be hopping aboard in mid September for the transpacific. I’ve seen some negative reviews so far as the food and entertainment goes, I guess I’ll find out for myself. Not everyone has the same tastes.

As the summer as rolled on there seems to be many more positive reviews versus some of those early negative ones that set the tone from the AUS>USA and mid-May sailings. I think you will have a great time and those are some awesome ports for that trip back down under! Enjoy!

Excellent video...one comment about the steakhouse, you obviously checked the sound while it was light outside (although on an Alaska cruise it doesn't necessarily tell us the time of day), if the Luminosa is like other Carnival ships, most nights there is a violin trio or single person on a guitar in the atrium. We had the same initial concern about what the noise would be like when we sailed on the Legend but it turned out to be our favourite steakhouse experience yet.

Thank you! Yes this was around 8pm but as you deduced still plenty bright outside in summer Alaska. It's less the music and more about the people noise from the buffet and atrium. I think for the additional cost being spent I would prefer a more traditional closed-off room. It is what it is, and tastes will be different, but worth calling out in case someone was expecting something quieter and intimate.

People who are expecting all the usual carnival FUN ship 🚢 accoutrements will be disappointed by the Luminosa, but please don’t blame the ship. For those that don’t know, she only had a small amount of time for rebranding due to Carnival selling the ship Costa Magica 2003 that was supposed to come down to Oz and then up to Alaska. We did end up getting the newer ship 2009 vintage, 6 years younger, but she was definitely left short of time for rebranding and refitting, not her fault, all the blame should lie with the parent company Carnival. It always ends with the bottom line, and that’s the money.

Indeed, wish she could have just a few more touch ups prior to delivery (like the putting green---would it have been that hard to make a true mini-golf course there?). However, there are some differences that only she will be able to give compared to other Carnival ships, such as the massive Ocean Plaza or the leftover Italian art and decor.

Yes! Kids can go to Camp Ocean during open times which on sea days is 9am-12pm, 2pm-5pm, 7pm-10pm. Port days they are open 7am-5pm and then 7pm-10pm, in case you have an excursion the kid can't or doesn't want to go on, they can stay there on the ship. There is also a "Night Owls" late option for 10pm to 1am for a small additional charge per hour (I think its $8 or $10 US dollars---well worth it if you plan to have a late night out about the ship)

Man this ship needs to be renamed to Laminosa. The ports were amazing but the food was subpar. The burgers and buffet were terrible. The burritos werent bad. MDR was ok. We went there only a few times. The theater did have amazing shows. Neil the CD was barely around and the wost we've had so far. During the day the entertainment was extremely lacking. So many were sitting in their cabins out of bordom. Ill definitely avoid this ship in the future.

Thanks for the comment. Only thing we find hard to believe is the comment on Neil. Unless it was during port he was at every show, party and all around the ship for us. He was there in Juneau back-on-board time when the line was super long for the tenders chatting it up with everyone and explaining the delay. He was out with us during the naturist's walks too. And he was great delivering his lines and jokes, as all CDs have, at the perfect temperature for an Alaskan cruise but still with subtle grown up humor. After our sailing Brandy and I both agreed our rankings from our 9 Carnival sailings so far, he would be behind Cookie and Kendall but ahead of Lee (yes, you heard that right, we had more fun under Neil than with Lee on the Celebration, as far as CD entertainment and experience is concerned)!

Great video. Thank you for posting. 🎉🛳️. I was on the Luminosa last week. It’s sad to say, but she had the most boring fun squad for a Carnival ship. It’s almost like Neil, the cruise director has given up because of the age group of people on the boat.

You are absolutely right. It’s because the age group. We live here in seattle but we don’t sail in Alaska it’s because of the age group that are sailing. It’s kinda boring.
