Carnival should ban this family. There is nothing worse that the tranquility of cruising being disrupted and when it is it should be dealt with swiftly. Out of control cruisers a Carnival cruise ship.

I had a similar experience on a commercial flight one time when a young couple and their small girl were in the row behind me. No sooner had everyone sat down than the child started screaming and kicking the back of my seat repeatedly. After a few moments of this, I turned around and politely asked them to control their child. The mother's response: "She's only 5." My response: "You aren't." That took care of it.

Had a family in a restaurant when my family was dining out. The little boy. 5-6 yrs old kept turning around in his booth and talking and hitting us in the head and basically being a pest. Politely ask them to control him, moms response was he is to young and just full of energy, I explained to her in front of waitress if the mom would turn his little head until his neck popped he would sit still. My family has special needs children and if anyone of them had a meltdown like that, we feel it is our duty to remove them from the area. Some kids can't handle the stimulation of stage shows and it sounds as if that is what the problem was here. SHAME on the parents for allowing it to continue. And, if the child was just misbehaving, DOUBLE SHAME. I can't believe someone from the crew didn't step in. However, some parents are worse to deal with than a screaming child, so who knows.

@@tt2778 nah. We have a son and daughter-in-law who both work for Disney and live just three or four miles from the Magic Kingdom at WDW. We go visit two or three times per year. I get what you’re saying, but a cruise and Disney are two completely different circumstances. If you go to a CHILDREN’s theme park, you should expect hot, upset, misbehaving children. On a cruise ship, it’s a different story.

On one of my Carnival cruises, we had waited on a couple that (three times in a row, ) were late enough returning that we were on the verge of departing all three times. On this occasion, they announced their names numerous times, and confined them to their rooms for the rest of the cruise.

Had one who even answered their cell phone and had a convo during one of the songs. The rule was the doors are shut when the show begins and you don’t let anyone enter or exit except between songs. For handicapped cruisers, you left out a VERY important topic. That is, people who do not require handicapped seating flopping down in the very few spaces provided on the back row of the theater for wheelchairs. The inconsiderate attitude of some cruisers makes it virtually impossible for people who are confined to wheelchairs to enjoy any activity in the main theater. Most cruise lines plainly mark the areas as being for wheelchairs. We are generally forced to eat at 5 pm in order to get to the theater by 6 pm in order to see a 7 or 8 pm show. And then, of course, there are always the inconsiderate folks who chose to stand behind the back row talking loudly enough to disrupt the show and then finally leave after 5 or 10 minutes of disruption. Before you are anyone else takes parking places at malls that are designed for the handicapped or takes seats on the ship that are set aside for the handicapped, please rent a manual wheelchair for just 1 day and try living your life in the wheelchair without ever standing. That includes transfer to the toliet, transfer to an automobile seat or playing with grandkids.

My pet peeve is the seat saving. Too many times to count, I’ve tried to take a seat, only to be told that it was…as you say, saved…sometimes an entire row. Well, on my last cruise, I was traveling just after having a fairly severe knee injury. My husband and I were looking for a seat, at the water show, and I managed to hobble down several steps, with great difficulty, to where the open seats were located. This was no small feat for me,…not to mention that I’m almost 70 years old. When I got there and sat down, a man in what appeared to me, to be his early 40’s, turned to me and said…”Those seats are saved”. Well, guess what? I looked him directly in the eyes and told him that I was not moving and that he should know that, before every show, there is always an announcement that saving of seats is strictly prohibited. Needles to say, he was as mad as a wet hen, however all of the people around me actually applauded or gave me a thumbs up. When his party came, he loudly proclaimed that I had stolen their seats, but they didn’t really seem to mind. In the future, I’ll most likely look for another seat, as long as I don’t have any injury, making that difficult, but should the same situation occur, if anyone gives me any grief, I’ll just call over an employee. Hopefully, no one will rip a 70 year old lady out of her seat, before the employee can intervene.

We had a similar experience on the Carnival Magic in December of 22. A VERY drunk woman had been a spectacle all day around the pool area and of course she ended up with 2 old men draped all over her right in the center of the comedy show we wanted to see. The show was packed and they were so loud and obnoxious you couldn’t hear the comedian. The man behind them asked them to please let others enjoy the show, which only made them more entitled and even louder. He asked one more time, with the same response from the drunks, before he left the theatre with his frustrated group. The drunks did a victory howl that they had “won”. At this point a crew member did step in and tell the people they would be removed if they didn’t quiet down so others could hear which the drunks found hilarious. So then they loudly laughed and shooshed each other. We still couldn’t hear the show so we left too, along with a lot of other people around them. Let me get this straight. Not one responsible adult got up and reported that bratty disturbance?! Noone complained to a cruise staff to have the brat removed immediately?! If a room full of adults don't take the adult responsibility to have the brat removed via cruise staff, then all of those adults deserved having their fun ruined. No responsible action means silent complicity. When I see someone like that disturbing the fun, I make it my personal mission to get them removed ASAP by the ones in charge. I make sure to be the kind, respectful adult caring for the welfare of others while punishing a pain in the a$$. I ask the staff sweetly to remove the selfish person and joke with them as we walk together to remove that problem. I make sure to give the annoying one the Evil eyes as they fight to be removed. I then joke with the other watchers about how stupid the pain is behaving😂 After the annoying removal, everyone returns to the event as if nothing happened🙂 The End 🎉

I don't usually reply in comments, but to hear Tony bent out of shape about a CARNIVAL cruise surprised me. Carnival is INFAMOUS for allowing behavior by teenagers that other cruise lines would not tolerate. I sailed Carnival about 10 years ago where teenage boys (a pack of four) went about the buffet and as they passed people's tables they would take fries or a roll or something from people's plates, laugh, and run off. The same bunch, I witnessed the first incident, would run down the hallway of my deck-they likely did it to others-banging on doors at midnight. I saw this because I was returning to my room that night and saw them. Carnival does NOTHING TO STOP this behavior because this, as a crewmember told me, was THE FUN SHIP. Well, on the morning of disembarkation, I looked over at this family and saw one of these boys sitting quietly with his parents. I got up and approached them. He saw me, I saw him and he quickly away. I proceeded to inform his parents of what he and his friends did on the ship during the cruise. The stealing food from people's plates in the buffet got a 'you did what???' look from his father as this kid slid down in his seat. The parents OBVIOUSLY were oblivious to what their kid did. So hearing your experience Tony, DID NOT SURPRISE ME one little bit, and that is why I have not traveled Carnival since then, and will not travel them again. Why should I pay THOUSANDS to let some little s#@t ruin my vacation. This cruise line leads in drunken brawls and terrible behavior that the line ignores. People I know tell me the main reason they travel Carnival is fares are usually the LOWEST. I say, you get what you pay for.

That's why they have a curfew now.. Times change, you can't condemn a cruise line for bad parenting, and there's a LOT of bad parenting these days.. The cruise line has to walk a fine line of keeping some decorum and ruining the fun of people just trying to have a good time.. We go on Carnival all the time, and they are strict about people making noise in the cabin hallways.. We have never had an issue, but a call to guest services gets prompt attention..

1st - I enjoy your content and tho I'm not a cruiser, you've given me insight into a world I've always wondered about. Plus, you offer such insightful observations about life and times. Keep up the great work. Regarding the banning of the family- I empathise with your anger. I won't justify bad behavior or bad judgement on the part of the parents but I'd like to offer a possible thought. I'm had 2 special brothers. One of them would have caused you to cringe if you were around him when we went to a restaurant. Some people verbalized their revulsion to us while we were attempting to have a meal at a restaurant. It was a visual problem - not a noise problem. My response to them was not always pleasant. Taking my experience to a later time in my life, I had the privildge of driving a shuttle bus at a major airport. On one particular day, I met a father and his teenaged son. They were my only passengers. I knew there was a challege at the outset because the young man would let out loud screams regularly as we were making our 20 minute ride back to the parking lot from the airport. After a couple of outbursts, I realized the young man wasn't acting out purposely. When I dropped off the dad and son at their car, the dad stopped and thanked me for being understanding of his son's behavior - he had Tourette's Syndrome and couldn't help himself. I told him I understood. Thinking back to my 2 brothers, my heart ached for him and his son. Could that be an explanation for what you experienced? I don't know. Should the parents have decided to not attend the show because of possible challenges - maybe. Could be the family just wanted to experience a show together. Just a thought from a big brother who loved his little brothers and misses them to this day... John

Had something similar happen recently and realized that the girl was special needs, which at least explained the behavior but didn't lessen the distraction. I get that the parents wanted to enjoy the activity and that they wanted to include their daughter, but they had little concern for everyone else's enjoyment or lack thereof. If she wasn't special needs, then there is no excuse for her behavior or her parents not putting a stop to it.

Or the family with such loud snacks that it sounds like Santa's elves are behind us wrapping 50 Christmas presents - I'm shocked I'm not in jail yet! And I can't believe the teenagers did that in front of the parents! Or that the parents allowed it to happen! When my two kids were younger, I was always overdoing the "I don't want to be that family" feeling. As soon as one of my kids got loud, they were instantly spoken to, and if that didn't work, I carried them immediately out of the area for an additional talking to. She kept staring at him, making all of these excuses to walk by the table and just in general making a nuisance of herself. When she finally sat down, Jack turned around and kneeled in his seat and just stared at her without talking for about 5 minutes…Lucy got so flustered that she and her companion left the restaurant. Wonder if that works on a cruise ship….everyone with you just turns around, kneels in the seat and stares at the offending passengers without saying a word.😂

At the top of the list is exactly the first thing you said - arriving late (sometimes halfway through the show) AND going straight to the front row with little kids and screaming babies, with those kids having to go to the bathroom every 10 minutes. At the last show I attended I found a perfect seat in the middle on the right in a totally empty row, confident that I'd be able to watch the show in comfort. I don't understand how people can be so selfish as to: a) reserve seats (well more than for one partner perhaps), or why people think it OK to come in late, and distract others by taking ANY seats ahead of others, not just row 1 or 2. Stand/sit at the back!! My other bug-bear is those who - often despite requests not to - sit with their mobile phones at head level, or higher, video-recording a whole song or series of songs. In a dark theatre, or anywhere, I don't want to have the distraction or their phones spoiling my view! The odd photo or video clip not so much of an issue. And lastly, those who sit on their mobiles on Facebook etc etc, doing email, during a show. Just unnecessarily distracting - do it outside!!! I wish there were staff who were watching and 'preventing' such things. 😠

I understand it is upsetting for you show experience, but looking at the other side of it would you rather a child in this situation never get out and experience these same joys, even at the cost of one show for those near by? Like myself, eventually they grow out of it or at least learn to muffle their excitement better, and so with all that said I truly am sorry that your experience was dampened by this disruption. I just wish to raise awareness that sometimes it is not just to rain on others enjoyment but instead is an impulsive reaction to their own enjoyment. Happy cruising!
