2024 is the last year you can cruise on the Carnival Sunshine out of Charleston, SC. The ship was built in 1996 and we wanted to see the condition of a cruise ship that's almost 30 years old! WE WERE SHOCKED!

Going on the sunshine before it leaves the Charleston port in July! We’re hopping on for our mini honeymoon right after we get married. We appreciate a video tour that isn’t 30 minutes plus!

I know right ...it is a great ship! We found it a perfect size with great staff and great food. You really exceeded our expectations and we would love to go back again too before he leaves Charleston!! When you go have one of those delicious Guy burgers for us. We went on this ship in 2002 when it was the Carnival Destiny. They put the ship in drydock and completely renovated it a few years ago and it became the Sunshine. We've been doing the much larger ships lately, but we've been thinking about going back to the smaller ones. Less people... Haha

We have had 3 cruises on the Sunshine. Love the ship even if it is older. Prefer it to the larger ships like Magic, etc. Really happy it will be homeported in Norfolk next year.

Thanks for the video!! My family is booked on the Sunshine for Christmas to New Years in 2025. What was the weather like in South Carolina when y'all left and throughout the cruise? And when did you travel?

Hello! That sounds like a great family trip! We went in late January and the weather was clear but temps in South Carolina were in the high 50s. December down here in SC can sometimes be warm in the 70's or cold in the 40-50s. During our cruise the temps were in the low 70s once we made it into the Bahamas. Hope you have great weather! Yes it was called that back then, and when you were on the ship it was only 2 years old! Does it look much different now from the video, if you remember?

It looks almost completely different.the areas around the stairs and carpet down the hallway of staterooms looks the same and the grand staircase looks slightly the same,but I'm shocked at how different everything else looks.

They were a wood-like material but on the inside there was metal trim around the edges. Never tried to stick a magnet to them. Sorry! Thanks for watching and for the question.

Hey Mark and Michelle! To be honest, there really wasn't anything we didn't like about the ship or the cruise! It blew away our expectations! Yes we would definitely go again and the price wasn't too bad. The 5-day cruise was around $700 a person which is a lot of money but much much less expensive than most other cruises. We've never really been tempted to take a cruise. Just not been something that came into our radar but I can see how this could be a great way to travel. It's actually a double dip holiday- the boat itself and then the ports one visits. Certainly looked well booked and fun. Thanks for allowing me to tag along Steve and Sue. @@TravelwithNJSteveandSuethat’s interesting! I live in Columbia SC, haven’t heard that one. Unsure where it would go with the Yorktown and the Charleston Resort and Marina being there. Also, I think the City of Charleston is already mega touristy and the reasoning for no cruise port is that the old money down here think it’s ‘tacky’ and ‘doesn’t fit the Charleston aesthetic’ . Trust me, the rest of South Carolina is not happy with this decision!!

Correct. You’re doing it so we don’t have to. You won’t get HW on a cruise. But thanks for showing us around. How was the coffee? (Nectar). Also how much was the drinks package?

Hey HW! The free nectar which is included with the cruise was actually pretty good. They had a machine that ground the beans fresh and so the coffee always tasted freshly made! But unlike the machines we had found in Europe, It was just basic coffee. Nothing special. The drink package was expensive, $70 per person per day and everyone in your cabin had to get it. So if you're there as a couple it would cost 140 each day for the drink package. We just don't drink like we used to so it would have been a waste of money and we just bought the drinks as it went along which cost around 7 to $8 per beer and $12 for a mixed drink. I used to love this ship, but now it's completely infested with roaches. If you want to be completely grossed out, check the CDCs website and their Vessel Sanitation Program report. It says it's been corrected, but that just means they proved they treated it. Was on her last week and we saw roaches in multiple areas. They're not getting rid of them unless they take that ship out of service and treat it from top to bottom.
