Carnival Venezia What We Loved And What We Hated 

PLEASE PLEASE update your section about the elevators. First... the elevators actual do work and work GREAT if people read the instructions. They are only as smart as the people pushing the buttons. The instructions (which no one pays attention to) you push the button for the floor you are going to... AS MANY TIMES AS THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE YOU HAVE. If you have 4 people that are on floor 5 and want to go to 10, you HAVE to push 10 4 times. That is the only way the elevator knows how many people are on the elevator and whether it should stop at a floor or not. And if you have luggage or a wheel chair, that is considered a person, so if you have 1 person in a wheelchair you would have to push the button twice. You will never have to get in line again and again. There is NEVER a 30 minute wait, NEVER. These elevators are EXCELLENT if people know what they are doing. With you commenting many times to "understand how they work", please educate people as to how they work!

We LOVED the elevators! Best we have ever used on a CRUISE!!! It separates you into the right elevators, NEVER had an issue. Embarkation or Debarkation and everything in-between. We were on DECK 11 and never had to really wait...

The elevators look the same as Horizon. Definitely a learning curve on those. When you have a wheelchair/scooter there’s a specific button to push when scheduling it. Also you’re supposed to push the floor for each person in your party. So if there’s 4 people you have to order the elevator 4 times to your floor so it knows how many are in the car. Great in theory but the amount of people that didn’t take the time to read the posted instructions definitely hindered the process.

When using the elevators you are suppose to do the steps for each person in your group so 3 people you do it three times so that the elevators can calculate how many can fit in the elevator before it goes to a different letter. They also have the handicap button to push to help alleviate the backlog of people trying to get on the elevator with a scooter.

You must select the floor you want FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL in your group. This is what people do not understand, if you have 4 people, you need to select the floor 4 TIMES!!!! This is what screws up an otherwise awesome elevator system!

Great video! I’m surprised you guys didn’t mention the long lines everywhere on the ship or to the ship. Having to wait for almost an hour sometimes outside the port building (Gibraltar) or 40 mins for the MDR was quite frustrating. Carnival seems to love adding more cabins to newer ships without adding adequate extra amenities. Also the elevator system is actually common on many skyscrapers. I do agree that it was annoying-I ended up using the stairs most of the time-but that might be Carnival having the system optimized for energy-saving or something

We booked for Feb 2025. I get that pools are really small, but we never really get in the pool or hot tubs. As long as they have enough sun loungers my hubby and I will be happy. We like serenity and we are early risers so we may need to hang out there. I like the little shower they have so we can get cooled off if need be. I am anxious to hear how the Caribbean cruises go...Thanks for your great review. I have been following along with our videos. We are booked Deck 10 Balcony, but considering at Terrazia balcony room? Most excited for the coffee shop on Lido in the mornings

We were going to book Venezia because of the nice Italian decor. However, once we saw the limited pool size and space we switched to Celebration instead. Glad you confirmed our hesitation. Pool is key to a cruise imo.

Interesting overview. We just went on a 9 day cruise to the Bahamas, it was really nice. I am surprised you had a problem with elevators. We loved the smart elevators and thought they were very efficient and quick, and we had no problems getting enough space. We also liked the entertainment and the Italian feel of the ship, the variety of bars and restaurants. We loved the sauna, too. The jacuzzis at the back of the ship were crowded, and the pool size small, but we still used them. We did not think the buffet had the best food and did not like having to stand on line to get food - especially for the thin crust pizza, which was delicious, but the line made us skip it. Overall we enjoyed the ship very much.

Great video, these are so helpful so we can plan ahead. Have you ever done the Carnival Horizon yet? We are going on that one in late 2024 for back to back cruises. We can't wait! This Venezia ship looks AMAZING!

I'm kind of bummed out about the pool size but to be honest I'm not a big public pool person anyway. We really look forward to the beach and ocean when we are at our ports of call. You don’t want to make the smokers get nervous there is tons of smoking on deck, five starboard side, nice private areas with a nice lounge chairs, and it’s a covered space along the ship and just a heads up on what carnival ships it’s usually deck 11 where you can smoke Lido, but then you go down the starboard side and it’s always in the starboard corner on the Aft over looking the aft pool

Good tips! The elevator system sounds like it was designed by psychopaths. And that quick peek at buffet offerings-nope. That stuff looked nasty! My high school cafeteria provided better fare, something I never thought I’d say.

You guys have the best videos. I watched another video with 3 people giving their opinions of the Venezia. They cried about the food, the pictures, couldn't find the Italian Flavor. They didn't like the Sailaway party, the Brunch, the Cabin Steward(3 good sized people in an interior room). Didn't like the lines waiting to get into a show. The only thing they liked was Embarkation. Is there any validity to their complaints.

Thanks y’all. I am disappointed about the ship not having a thermal suite. That is our favorite place on a cruise. As for the elevators, we don’t have problems with them. We experienced those type of elevators on the Horizon had no problems. Just had to be a little patient sometimes. Other times it wasn’t an issue

Just got off this ship after three weeks on it, back to back cruises. Disagree on a couple of points. The elevators are fine, I don't understand why you had any problems with them. And we could smell smoke quite often from the casino. But you are right, the food was great, and there were a lot of bars. Overall, a great ship!

I am very surprised to hear that the buffet has been downgraded. But it makes sense because they want you to pay for the specialty restaurants. That's what I think in my opinion.

we are quite nervous for our upcoming cruise in a week....summer time to the carribean and our family is poolside all day every day on sea days so if there are no chairs and a crowded pool this will be a HUGE let down!

Just got off a 15 day on this one out of New York...Beds terrible so Hard!! Ship was good food was mostly good entertainment was pretty good some really good singers. I Have never had a bad bed before so this was disapointing on such a long cruise all the toppers were given out by the tme we realized they had them ..all the cruisers snapped them up. The casino was terrible no ventilation and it was very hot in there and the smoke just hung in the air,.. very small non smoking area. Also it was very hot and cold all over the ship not very climate controlled. Guys burgers went down hill no fresh cut fries anymore they are frozen and no more lightly toasted buns..lol The food over all was good though. Our internet was hit and miss. Yes my hubby complained about the tv channels too..lol

Most of deck 5 starboard side is also available to smokers. Im not a smoker, but i was kinda jealous about all of their fabulous seating.

A lot of people don't understand how the elevator system works you have to push the button for the amount of people that you have in your party so if you have four people in your party you have to push the button four times

So we are cruising next Sept and we have one of the aft balcony on floor 8. Will the smoking area affect the aft balcony. Neither of us smoke.

I wonder if Carnival Firenze lido deck is the same as Venezia.

The hallway on the starboard side Deck 1 smelled of smoke all the time. Our cabin on Deck 1 did not though. I'm assuming it was cigarette smoke coming from a crew area that caused it.

I purchased the premium internet for one day at sea over the Atlantic and the speed was fast. Also, I found the tv reception was excellent at sea, but in port glitchy/ pixel. Oh yes, the worst tv selection ever and old movies. I was surprised the Carnival cruise station didn’t highlight anything on board.

I thought the channels were horrible, my last cruise. I couldn't find anything in the room at night.

We would never enter a public pool unless nobody else ever used it. We don't pay for a cruise to watch ANY tv. Too bad about spa! I care most about food. Is food better than Celebrity Apex?

As a former smoker, I will tell you , I did not want to walk 100 miles to a back corner away from everything all the time. Nope . No way. Front, middle and back required. If I still smoked, I would not want that. Not relaxing.

Super disagree with the elevators. I have complained about the elevators on every single survey with Carnival. It's so infuriating to wait for elevators for 20 mins. Personally, I'd rather just walk the stairs, but the Mrs. refuses. Went on the Panorama recently and they appeared to have fixed that issue. Protip: If you have 2 people, you need to click the button twice. So, if you have a wheelchair, you should probably also push it multiple times

Ahh I know it’s technically a vista class ship so it has those dumb “smart” elevators.

Ever since I was introduced to cruising, I have chosen to cruise on Carnival. When I was informed that New York sailings would be on the new Venezia, I informed my travel partners, and we were ecstatic. The Venezia had a top that closed and ships leaving from New York would be available more times a year. This was great since it meant we did not have to fly to another state to cruise. The few pictures of the ship that were available on the website were spectacular and we could not wait for June 19th to come. Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed. This is the second experience with Carnival that left a bad taste in my mouth. This one being the worst. First, let me say that the staff were amazing. Most of them went out of their way to apologize and make me feel better. Any issues I had were addressed quickly and efficiently. The Cabin Steward in charge of my room was amazing, but I misplaced his card and cannot remember his name. However, I was in room 8255 and am sure you will be able to find out who was assigned to my cabin on the June 19, 2023, cruise leaving from Manhattan. Kris (asst Cabin Steward) and Kevin (housekeeper) were also very attentive. Chantell (nail technician) and Magdalena (Spa therapist) are amazing. They both made the spa experience one that has convinced me that every cruise will now include a mani/pedi and deep tissue massage. In the casino, Cristal (Casino dealer), and Bar servers, Jhonatan and Eka made me feel better about coming to a casino that was poorly done as opposed to others I have been to on Carnival. The bar servers went out of their way to apologize for the lengthy wait for drinks. The Casino: Announcements over the loudspeaker could not be heard, even though the sound on the machines were turned off. If there was an emergency, those in the casino would never know. I am also surprised that the Carnival staff did not make anyone aware especially since it happened from the first day. I assumed that they would immediately make someone aware. However, after day 2, I repeatedly asked the staff to let someone know that announcement could not be heard. Size - When the Venezia was designed, no consideration was given to those of us that like to gamble. Am I wrong in my assumption that a large chunk of cruise lines revenue is from those of us who gamble. The casino was so small that every night guests had to wait to gamble, and we will not even discuss the Casino Annex. The annex was the size of my living room. Because of this, guests were in constant conflict over who was next to play the machine. There were times when I left because there were no available machines. As a member of the Players Club, I am an avid gambler and believe that someone needs to check the integrity of the machines. I did not expect to win all the time, but I suspect that they were designed not to pay at all, or they were tampered with or reset every evening. When you win some jackpots, it goes back to the minimum and builds again over time. I hit a major jackpot and days later, it still had not built back up. Many of the high rollers I spoke with felt the same and even said they would be calling the gambling commission once they returned home. If you send a survey to the gamblers, you will see how displeased they were because every where I went, it was one of the topics of discussion. Drinks - I have NEVER been to a casino that did not have its own bar. Getting a drink in the casino required a 30-minute wait. We were told this was because they were understaffed and because there was no bar. My drink of choice is “a kiss on the lips” and when I finally got my drink, I realized that depending on who delivered it, it tasted different EVERY time. As a bartender, I realize that this can happen sometimes, but not every time. Imagine our surprise when we learned that the servers were going into a small room off to the side of the casino and making the drinks themselves. This is not only unsanitary but makes me wonder what Carnival was thinking or do they even know that this is happening. I must say that when I ordered it at any bar, the taste was consistent. This needs to be corrected immediately. Servers are servers and should not be making drinks. The Food: The best choices on the ship were the deli, the omelet station, and the seafood shack, where I chose to eat as opposed to the other choices. The open and close times listed on the app, were often wrong. The first few nights, there were plenty of fixings to add to a salad, but no lettuce. The franks were grey and looked like they had freezer burn, sausage was undercooked and the first 2 days, there was no bacon. On the 3rd day when bacon was introduced as an option, we were only given 2 pieces. The ice cream stations were shut down most nights after midnight, generally they stay open, and you can get ice cream almost all night. I thought it had something to do with the curfew that was imposed on those under 18, but their curfew was 1:00 AM. The beverage stations, even the ice, water, and coffee, were randomly shut down and I was under the impression that they were open 24 hours and only closed to be cleaned or refilled. Guy’s Burger - Since I started cruising, Guy’s has been my favorite meal. Imagine my surprise when we were told that now they closed at 5:00 leaving little options if you did not like what the lido dining room was serving. Usually, the line for Guy’s is the longest on the ship. Well not this time, after the first day, the wait for burgers were minimum. This is because they were tasteless and sometimes burnt. I was shocked when I bit into my first burger. Guy Fieri would be appalled if he tasted these burgers. The staff needs to be retrained on how to make them. Room Service - The room service menu was a joke. My other foods of choice were the chicken tenders and the Caesar salad offered on the room service menu. The chicken tenders were disgusting with more batter than chicken, and salad is no longer a choice. The menu only offered meat and drinks, no salad, no fries, no desserts, none of the menu choices I am accustomed to. I have 3 more cruises scheduled and wonder if this is what I have to look forward to or is this a Venezia issue. During a conversation with a fellow gambler, I was shocked to hear that a cabin steward had walked in on her grandson while he was sleeping. When she confronted the steward and his supervisor, the steward informed the supervisor that they had run out of Do Not Disturb/Snoozing signs. This sounds bizarre, especially since the number of cabins aboard the ship do not change and this is a BASIC requirement for each cabin. I was also disappointed to learn that some of the Oceanview rooms have a bathtub, which I thought were only available in suites and some balconies. Why isn’t this advertised on the website, cause had I known, I would have taken the Oceanview rather than my balcony. None of the ships state which rooms have tubs and I would think that is something you might want people to know. The channels in the rooms left much to be desired and I do not understand why the movies you showed at the Dive in Movies had to paid for if you watched it in your room. Why isn’t it an option to watch it in your room? It just seemed like the Venezia was charging for everything they could. Why isn’t the popcorn for the movie free? Why is there no melted butter to put on the popcorn? I must say that Carnival’s Island, Half Moon Cay, is amazing and has one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. On the day we visited, we chose to get off at 1:00 because of the crowds of those who wanted to go early. Imagine my surprise to find that by the time we got off the shuttle and took the long walk to the barbeque, the buffet was closed, and we were unable to eat. This was the experience of many of the guests and was discussed during the shuttle back to the ship. I am semi-retired and cruise at least 3 times per year. Although many of my travel buddies have suggested other cruise lines, I always stand up and insist on Carnival. I am beginning to think seriously about other options. I am scheduled on Venezia again on August 14th and wish I could change ships. At least its only 5 days instead of 8.

Not surprised with the feedback on the disgusting buffet on the Venezia. Carnival has one of the worst buffets in the industry. Even the buffet onboard the brand new Celebration on its 2 sailing back in November 2022 was simply disgusting. Luckily there were so many other food options onboard with tasty meals. However as someone that loves buffets to try various food options Carnival is simply disgusting. I will also venture to say that the only people that love the Carnival buffets are those that have not sailed with other cruise lines...LOL

The buffet was barely acceptable. BARELY

carnival doesnt do pools good. you love pools sail royal. me personally? i could care less. something gross about swimming in small pools and hot tubs with people of questionable hygene.

I will only swim before noon, by then with all the people, it is basically a bouillabaisse.
