If the carnivore bars set you off, just throw them out, don't buy them, don't eat them. I started drinking tiny little shot glasses of heavy cream. Now I can drink a pint++ of heavy cream, so I very rarely buy it anymore.

Such things are never so simple even though we wished it was. Depends are where the individual is in their journey. One day, we will all find a way to cope with our vices but it has never happened quickly for myself. I’m hoping we have space to allow those (myself included) who need the time to adjust.

I am also a recovering addict (mostly opiates, opioids and booze and just celebrated 5 years off booze and 4 years off the others in May!) And this carnivore journey has opened my eyes SO MUCH about just how freaking addictive sugar and carbs are.. as well as how behavior can effect our choices. It's all a journey and trying to figure it out as we go is a trip! Talking about everything and especially saying that you want to change is SO GOOD! We will get to where we want to be, keep bein brave and transparent, Lady!❤

@@CourtneyLunasame here. After 1 year successfully carnivore, I find myself with ‘eat’ cravings. I’ve done regular fasting, tracked macros rigorously, etc. Suddenly I’m into the pork rinds with butter before my meal, just eating too much. I know I’m isolated, lonesome, anxious & unfulfilled and that’s where I need to focus, though feeling lost about where/how to start. You are not alone ❤

Hey Courtney, I have seen the 'footage' of you being happy, healthy and safe in Ketocon so thank god for that! I recognize the nerves and I am glad you have this channel to vent and let it all out. I have a channel too, and when I talk to the camera I see myself so its like I am talking to a mirror, even though I have a whopping 150 subscribers 🤭, if there were 150 people sitting in front of me I would totally black out, but this helps me so much with expressing my insecurties, cravings, cheats, challenges and victories. And the comments are álways 100% positive, so fantastic. So I am from Holland, with a Dutch mom and an American dad and because they split since I was very young I spent my childhood summer in California. He always wanted to buy tickets a year in advance or as soon as possible, and when my siblings and I got older him and his wife came over to Holland. Because my family was always obsessed with food and weight, they were all very skinny as well, I always got more and more nervouse the months before they came over. Started to eat my feelings and gaining weight, exactly the opposite of what I wanted! And then when they left I chilled out a bit. We all have our ways of dealing with pressure and I think you should be proud of yourself!! 5 Carnivore bars? Pffff whatever, this could have been a bottle of Vodka or a binge like the people from My 600 pounds Life on TLC 😂 I hope you can look back on a magic trip, because even though you are afraid of flying you still got there!! I miss the US! My dad and stephmom have passed a few years ago so I don't really go anymore. Lots of love from Holland Suzanne XO

Your video brought out such a tender topic that is also "the elephant in the room" for many. I appreciate it because it applies not only to those who can't moderate but also to those who can but still feel "guilty" for "white knock"-controlling their binge-prone behavioral drives. I firmly support the idea that "if you can't moderate certain foods, then create reasonable rules for yourself and abide by them."

I can totally relate to this! I had to reach myself when I would go through those moments If I felt the binge coming on I would stop myself and take a deep breath and grab a bottle of water and chug it down and get the heck out of the house for a moment. I find myself just as obsessed/consumed with food no matter how I eat. When I’m eating carnivore, it’s meal planning because I work all day, then have to cook for myself and my family. Lately, my husband and kids want to eat ketovore, which is GREAT, but I find myself thinking of elaborate meals to keep them “interested” in staying with it. I feel like if I’m not at work, I’m planning, cooking, or shopping now, writing recipes and new ideas, it’s really becoming exhausting. I feel myself losing control sometimes, too.

I really appreciate you making this video, I find this far more valuable than most videos out there. Everyone always says “carnivore gives you so much food freedom” etc. While for some of us, this doesn’t necessarily stand true. Especially if we have certain traumas where for whatever reason we dealt with and calmed the emotion with a little snack. Even on carnivore we tend to be able to find ways around carnivore. Restriction, it’s definitely one of the worse things. I did a cut for a photoshoot last year and while I had to plan to reverse diet, because my calories were low and more PSMF, it made me feel so awful, I never stuck to my reverse. It’s really hard to find good plans or parameters to stick to when you have one of those addictive personality, I feel this in my soul!!

Thank you for sharing all of this. It’s not easy to put yourself out there. I am not surprised that a week long phase of caloric restriction led to a binging episode. Maybe the sardines are satiating, but it was still a significant deficit. I have also found that for those of us who struggle with food addiction, avoiding foods that are hyper palatable and keeping food rotation as simple as possible, along with avoiding periods of food restriction will help immensely. Just like giving up alcohol. What you are “giving up” is nothing compared to what you will gain. ❤

Dearest Courtney. I think when you are stressed i.e. Keto Khan coming, then you stress eat for comfort. You have a lot going on and anything that comforts us we use to cope...alcohol,drugs,smoking,eating. Once you figure out your triggers you can have a plan rather than winging it. We all have this maybe why Americans are the most unhealthy country and overweight. When you can have anything you want, it's not such a good thing. Knowing what is right and wrong for us equals wisdom. Love you and we must love this journey

I too have binged on Carnivore Bars. I eat a strict meat and salt only diet with coffee. I got the bars for traveling and our tornado kit. This last time, I got two 24 boxes. I don’t even like the taste that much but it turned into a binge. My husband who will eat anything hated them and when I started binging on the 2nd box I just took the whole 2nd box and dumped it. I’d rather waste $300 than hurt myself. For me they are a toxin like sugar. Seeing your video was such a gift. I thought it was me but I think it is something with the bars and how they are made that give me an adverse reaction. I have been carnivore for almost 5 years and I was shocked at what happened. Now I feel like I am fighting the urge to binge again for the first time in 5 years. It is like I am starting over giving up sugar. I am only eating meat and I know as “easy” as the bars seem, no thanks! Just thankful to know that someone else has had this same reaction. It is a big eye opener that once again, only eat fresh meat for me!

Or a party situation. They’re so good! Have you considered eating more fat, less protein? Maybe add a little avocado? I’ve heard theories that some women do better on more of a ketogenic diet vs carnivore. Circadian rhythm? Electrolytes? Sorry if you have considered these, just throwing ideas out there.

I heard you say "that you have given up so much". The things that we "have given up" to become carnivores ONLY offered us a brief moment of pleasure in our mouths and a dopamine response. The one thing that bothers me of all the videos from non medical, nutritional people is most testimonies the person is still hooked on highly processed quick to grab snacks. It doesn't matter if it says keto, carnivore, low carb ect it is still processed poison with ingrediants that are designed to hook you into buying more. Cook whole foods at home where you control the process. I use Sunday evening prepping for the week. Boil a couple dozen eggs, cook a dozen 1/4 pound burgers, slice a pound of cheese. To cook a steak takes like 6-8 minutes in an air fryer. Even with a job and 6 kids 5 pets and a husband take the time to take care of yourself.

You are not alone and yes it is maddening. But l don't stop with "carnivore" foods If l start down that binge path. What l know for absolute certainty is one bite is too many and 1000 bites is never enough. As long as l don't take the first bite of whatever it is l'm ok. Somedays that is extremely hard to do. Has nothing whatsoever to do with physical hunger or being satiated. In a moment of weakness and l can't eat one more bite of steak or hamburger and l still want a cookie.

Kudos to you for getting through the sardine challenge! I can barely eat a few - no way I'd even try eating nothing else for days! As far as public speaking . . . your friend gives good advice. Take a little time to write down things you might say to keep your audience interested, and speak them in front of a mirror a couple of times. You may not follow the script exactly when the time comes, but you'll have the material in your head to draw on, and remember it better because you "practiced".

No I totally get what you're dealing with, you can binge on carnivore just like the regular sad diet. I did a bone broth and butter fast at the beginning of the year it got rid of a lot of the water retention I have dealing with edema, but I needed to reset cuz I was going back up on the scale and I was slippery sloping back, so I'm adding eggs with the sardine fast as well, and it seems to be doing well, down about 4 and 1/2 lb and just since the weekend, going to keep at it. 🙏🏽💜

Thank you for sharing ! Emotional eating very hard especially if the person have an eating disorder history before carnivore, but honestly carnivore helps me a lot with the craving especially for sugar stuff and i an discovering that if any food or drink been under process step it can makes you want it more and more not like real food and good luck for you

I hope this isn't an unhelpful comment, but after a year of carnivore and gaining 10 lbs, I had to give it up. It isn't always long term cure all for binge eating. I found I was so craving different foods and textures, I would overeat carnivore foods to satisfy my cravings. I've seen more carnivores struggle with this as well. I stopped carnivore, still eat high protein and have lost the weight again.

Thank you for sharing this. I have another thought on this: Maybe it is not all emotional eating as you think. You have to consider that you lost like how much during the sardine challenge? 7 lbs? That is a complete shock to your body's homoestasis. Also, you have to consider, that now you are way way leaner than a year ago, so of course you are hungrier. There is also a physical component to it.

You can over eat on any diet and gain weight. I struggle with overeating certain foods on the carnivore diet and have trouble controlling myself. I have trouble controlling myself with the pork skins. Before i know it will be almost eat the whole bag in one sitting. I think too much salt is like sugar can be addictive. Pork skins have a huge amount of salt on them. When i eat them i gain a lot of water weight that hangs around the belly. My ground beef that i buy has a low fat content and i bought the pork skins at first to crush and put them in my ground beef. I then started to snack on them. I am a bored eater and i have to watch myself. Now i try to crush them up so i will not be tempted to abuse my body by overeating them. I believe we all struggle in some area of our life and we have to learn self control. Thank you for being honest and sharing.

I kick myself when I go off plan or eat more than I anticipated, but the emotional stress is raising your cortisol and thats not good. 😔 I feel really bad for the way you are making yourself feel when you loose complete control for a min. I am sure sardines are a great asset to your diet, but personally will never be taking this challenge. 🤢 It's waaay to restricting and it would definitely backfire on me. Personally, sustainability comes with some variety. Seems to be working so far. You are way ahead of me, as I am only on month 5 but can't see the benefit of doing a challenge like this? If you are 2 years in and still challenging yourself and feeling great most days, relax on the days when you need something a little extra! I'm a sugar addict and it's been a struggle for sure. More some days then on others! Hang in there, you are doing fantastic!

I’m now more energetic & low in weight & fat , not that I need to . I’m at a healthy weight . I don’t worry about food floodgates or fasting on one food anymore . I still binge on carnivore food. It stopped but then about a year in, it started back. Addiction is one disease with many outlets. I'm adding to my "list" of addictions that I'm facing with 12 step recovery. I haven't had sugar/carb/grain/chocolate/nuts anything like that in 2 years, but I have started binging on meat and fat. I don't do things like sardine fasts. It will cause a carnivore binge after it's over. I'm trying to stay away from too much restriction, because that really sets me off. I'm trying high fat/lower protein carnivore right now to see if that helps me not binge on meat and fat about once a week. My blood sugars go off the charts and I do gain belly fat from it.

I think this is the dirty little secret in the community. If you use food as a coping mechanism, you can overeat anything! The solution IMHO is to replace the food with an activity. Just like Dr Cywes says, 'a snack is always an emotional event'. Well so is a binge. White knuckling it, is not an option. You have to find an activity that can easily replace the food. Some options could be: - journaling (paper or voice) - breath work - nature (smell the roses) - animals (hug, brush, play) - grounding - art & craft - music (listen or create) - short exercise (stretch, star jumps, punching bag, mini trampoline) I don't beat myself up if I still use food because I know I'm not hurting myself with my carnivore food choice. That is our saving grace. Weight gain is nothing compared to health issues. We just need a new emotional management system that ticks the dopamine box.

I always sabotage my weight loss attempts. For now there's only one way I'm doing it - OMAD in the evening, eating with my husband. I eat two stakes and then allow smth else like cheese. Spoiler - you almost can't have anything else after two stakes. I always fail if I have to control three meals a day with a bunch of variety. And for me it is much easier not to eat having empty stomach than stop eating when I've already eaten.

Food and cravings are a wild ride. We have so little control sometimes over how our bodies and systems have been wired. Alcoholic brains have struggled for so long being insulin resistant and glucose deprived that they adapt to burning acetates for fuel. This is something I am working on on the research side of what I do. I believe that our brains and bodies migrate into preferred energy sources. Glucose and Fructose is the primary metabolic fuel in our SAD lifestyle, then we switch and ketones fulfil this need for most people, but in others when we eat something that our brains and microbiome “sense” we need we go into subconscious foraging and we eat eat and eat. If we don’t give our system what it needs it will find a way to get what it needs. Mix the pleasure center dopamine response into the mix and this is a crazy ride for most people. This is why alcoholics can not have one drink, they are done. Acetate cravings and forage effect kicks in so hard they have zero chance of remaining sober. My sense is that you may be feeling extra cravey and ravenous post 7 day sardine fast as there may be other essentials or aminos or fats you need and your body wants them. Your thoughts on fast break management are likely on the point. Eggs, butter, tallow, fatty meat slowly coming to full ramp up. I render down grass fed grass fin’d beef fat and eat it by the spoon full when fat ramping. Less AGE’s than butter depending on the butter. Your experience makes me ponder the value of a sardine extended fast vs a regular water/salt fast - this is quite interesting from a neurological craving perspective post fast. If we have no food at all vs just one food is their a difference in hormones, glandular homeostasis and process. IE during a normal fast we access hormones and triglycerides from our adipose tissue. Estrogen, testosterone, Vitamin DEK, etc. when eating sardines, do we access the same hormones and enzymatic processes? I don’t know, but it is interesting. Just some thoughts from a bio sciences guy, and don’t be hard on yourself, science is very dynamic, especially within our own bodies and minds : ) your content and journey is nice to observe and hear.

Try throwing perimenopause into the mix. That is why women don't get included in most studies. We are much more complicated than our male counterparts. For example; why does a female carnivore have iron deficiency? I suppose bleeding every month doesn't help. Two years of testing and still no root cause. We need a Star Trek medical diagnostic tool to fix this issue. Stat! For all the knowledge we have, we know very little. Keep up the good work and best of lucking finding the answers!
