In this video, IM Alex Astaneh is continuing the Caro-Kann Defense series with the Fantasy Variation. The Fantasy Variation can be reached with the move order 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 and after white's move 3.f3, we have the Fantasy Variation on the board. After a couple of exchanges, white has a strong center with the pawns on the e4- and d4-square. In this video, you will learn from the black's perspective how to play against the Fantasy Variation.

very well explained, you covered so many different lines that would usually come up in game, very instructive coaching!

Excellent and very good teaching. Thank you. Do you have a video on the Bronstein larsen var of the Caro-Kaan?

Hi Alex, thank you for your teaching and I was able to surprise my friend with your idea of Bb4, and the game continue quite well. But in the next game, to avoid this, my friend played 4. a3 to prevent this, and I can't solve that problem. Do you have any idea?

But engines don’t “explain” their moves or the thought process involved.

Excellent how you don't just show lines, but talk about ideas and plans.

Thanks for going into this line! I was looking at a different video, but the creator dismissed creating the early pawn triangle because of the "French bishop" situation. Thanks for covering how development is still possible for black's light-squared bishop!

Thanks, I faced the fantasy variation in a tournament. I was unfortunately unprepared and lost. It was the deciding game, which means that if I won the game. Then I would have won the tournament. Thank you for giving me some solid responses for black!

lol I play the fantasy variation as white. I do not mind the french move order if black plays Nf6 as after pushing the e pawn, as you said, white gets a good mainline french position. Bb4 is tougher to face, but most of the time black plays Nf6. Because the fantasy variation is rarely what black faces, he usually does not know much theory on it, which is dangerous for him, as it can be a dangerous variation and even not knowing the theory on any lines can lead to worse positions.

Why don't you examine : 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.f3 e6 4.Nc3 Bb4 5.a3! with a very strong gambit idea similar to Blackmar Diemer gambit : 5. ... BxNc3 6.bxBc3 dxe4 7.Qe2!?

After e6 for black What do you think about the manœuver, g6, Bg7 and queenb6 to pressure the pawn on d4? (All black moves) or does that run into problem?
@mauer1
@mauer1 Год назад
i would guess white can very easily play h4 h5 into this. h4 is an idea not looked at here anyway.

Any endgame will favor white as they have two bishops
