Carol Channing and Betty White discuss their longtime friendship, their recurring roles on "The Love Boat" and offer a preview of their proposed new series "Friends Like Us," in this 1983 TV appearance.
So sad this didn't get picked up. Carol is a hoot as the 'straight man'. Would've been fun to see the characters' personalities flipped, too. Brilliant!
Fun tidbit from Don Bluth's memoir - in his animated 'Thumbelina' he originally cast Betty White as Mrs. Fieldmouse, but didn't like her performance, so he cast Carol Channing instead without telling Betty about it. But he didn't know they were friends, and right after she finished recording Carol called up Betty to tell her she'd just voiced a fieldmouse in an animated movie... and suddenly Bluth was getting angry calls from Betty's agent.
Another thing about Carol Channing and Betty White is they were both born in January. Carol ~ January 31st 1921 Betty ~ January 17th 1922 Betty was born 14 days before Carol’s 1st birthday 🥳
