But the 1st rhythm and lead guitarist, jimmy and Denny (new John and George) were unbelievable. Add maca, and you had a helluva band. Maca the genius was even able to integrate Linda's vocals and synth into the sound without damaging the magic. Famous quote, not substantiated. Lennon was asked if Ringo was one of Rock's best dummers. He said Ringo wasn't even the best drummer in the Beatles. (Maca).

Carole Kaye IS the rock and roll hall of fame! That dusty "museum" is a joke. If it was a hit back then it was either Kaye, James Jamerson, or John Paul Jones on bass. Unless it came out of Stax(Duck Dunn) or Muscle Shoals(David Hood).

There was a special ,about 90 mins long on AXS tv, while back. I watched it. Was VERY good. Think it was the drummers son telling the story. Called Wrecking Crew.

Well stated. And, yes, the studio musicians and arrangers know how to keep the vocals up front. As an arranger, I spent days writing parts only to have the producer slide the music faders back to let the vocals dominate. And that's how it should be.

Mother Maybelle Carter is probably the first notable guitarist to make records. Every country ,folk and rock guitarist follows in her footsteps. Ella Fitzgerald is remembered for her amazing singing but forgotten as a band leader. Melba Liston was a successful arranger. I could do this all day. Boys vs. Girls is bad enough on the playground. As a male musician myself I hate how people are surprised when they see a female musician playing well. To me a musician is a musician. She absolutely opened doors for female players to be accepted in a male dominated session scene

Walter Pen the Me Me Me is musicians demanding their rights (music rights) so they get the royalties to take care of them in there old age. None of the studio musicians we’ll ever get paid again for all the hits that the studio (not the musician - the creators) are still making millions of off. This is important. Artist need to own the rights to THEIR art.

It was precedent setting for artist rights. Look back over the few comments that responded to my original post 2 freakin' years ago, not a one except yours mentions a thing about race, only examples of various musicians who just happen to be black or white. If you happened to watch the movie you would know that the musicians that made the Motown sound didn't see each other by race and when the outside world forced them to they protected each other because of what connected them, made them brothers. Sure black influenced our culture but it was not only their hands, hearts and souls that did it. American Art, all forms, reflects the multi cultural reality that is the so called 'Melting Pot' of America. Instead of an absolute statement like "Black folks shaped our culture" it would be more accurately stated - Black Folks have made a significant contribution to the evolution of many facets of our culture. Also to say they were the first in American music doesn't fly either, they get credit for laying down the rhythm in what became 'rock and roll' (and yes, because of the culture of the time they were royal ripped off) but once again to make a definitive statement like "they were the first in American music" is to over look all of the other cultures that were here and engaging in and contributing to the evolution of the Art form. I am also a conservative but I also studied Art through 1/2 of the 80's in Detroit before going on to the Art Institute of Chicago. Have shown internationally, collected by a Detroit biker to a bishop in Venezuela and have not had to take job outside of my studio since '98. I'll add in I have got to travel to 48 states and 7 countries because of a love of seeing live music, my 300th concert (I quit counting after that) was in Vail, Co. in '01 seeing Warren Haynes on his 40th b-day. So I guess I could say I know a little something about Art and it's evolution. That being said modern 'music', particularly rap, is corporate social engineering bent on division and violence starting pretty much w/ N.W.A. The 1st rap music I was exposed to was during the mid to late '80's on the streets of Detroit and what was being 'rapped' about was lyrically more in the line of Bob Dylan w/ the positive vibes produced by Bob Marley not the dark and sadistic 'lifestyle' that has been promoted over the past 30 years. No one race can claim an Art form as theirs in this country let alone claim they are the first. That ended back when humanity started boarding ships for points unknown and returning home w/ what they found and learned.
