Lumane Casimir was born in Gros Mornes, a small city in Gonaives. By all accounts, she was very attractive. She moved to Port-Au-Prince by herself when she was 14 years old--well, she was accompanied by her little guitar. When she became popular as a singer, she went on a musical tour in Cuba, Miami and another country, whose name I can't remember right now. During such tour, in cuba particularly, she met an admirer. The two had a sexual affair, which resulted in Lumane being pregnant. Unfortunately, the baby died five days after being born. Lumane reportedly didn't leave behind any child. Lumane married to a Marines that worked at the naval base in Bizoton. That's when Haiti used to have a Marines force. It is also rumored that Lumane had a relationship with a guy named Roro--the guy she used to practice with. Then suddenly in 1951, Lumane withdrew herself from all public appearances. At the time, rumor had it that she was heavily involved with alcohol and drugs and she was unable to perform. The truth of the matter, however, is that the singer was seriously sick--so sick that she couldn't sing nor perform. She later was diagnosed with blood cancer. When the Haitian government knew about Lumane's condition, they assigned a nurse to her and provided her with a monthly allowance of $1,200. Unfortunately, Lumane succumbed to the disease exactly four years after her withdrawal from the public. Due to a bad weather and heavy rains, just a handful of people presided at her funeral. In the song dedicated to Lumane Casimir, it says that the people that she was close to didn't pay her their respect. It is true to a certain extent. However, it was because of the bad weather, as already explained. Lumane was liked and admired by many of her contemporaries. Many people would have been thrilled to preside at her funeral. Lumane Casimir died in 1955 at 35 years of age. Unfortunately, most of her works have been lost. Not even a good picture of her can be found.
Get man kameraman sa yo kretin net kompe smh they captured everything but the performance and the singers and spent an eternity on a random guy's teeth in the audience from 8:15 to 8:50. this was a perfect moment in history to capture Carole Demesmin and Emeline Michel singing together(two amazing women pillar in haitian history...and still making history) SMH get man mwen vekse anpil!! ki le ayisien ap apran filme?!!
