Super excited for this! Edit: Absolutely love how this was shot, and that Parallax tone is SO good (any chance that preset might be made available...?) Can't wait to see this live early next year! (Also that absolute bridge cable for the low F# string is hilarious 😂)
I thiiiiink I started with the Bass Riffs preset (or something like that) and tweaked from there. I believe it was a Forrester Savell preset. I remember I had to boost the highs quite the bit, 'cause the series pickup setting on the Afterburner is quite dark tonally. Always enjoy watching your videos, Chris!
The work changing between pick and fingerstyle it's something i really love of this man. For those of the "Pick vs Fingerstyle" eternal battle.... Why not both? I've learned so much from mr. Green, really an amazing musician.
This is fantastic. Too bad the mix on the album doesn't put the bass a little more prominent so we can't hear the subtleties of the the bass tone and pedal effects.
I don't think it's fair that you can play the bass this good, and at the same time sport that cool hairstyle and awesome beard work. Pick one to be not that good at, at least! Just kidding! Keep being awesome. I hope I can see you all live again soon, guys! Take care!
gotta say those Dingwall basses are absolute filth. If i was still playing they'd be on my list. I generally don't like the look of modern basses but Dingwalls are just really pretty to look at and the tones are incredible.
I just find myself listening to this at least once every week for a month now. Not just because I love the track, I just can't resist the suggestion when I see it, and RU-vid shows it to me quite often.
Haken uploading this masterpiece of a video has made my whole day, week, month, even year. I love you guys so much!!! Also I just realized he has the iconic Conner swoop back!! Yesssss!!!!
¡Esto es una Maravilla! Absolutely Fantastic! Thanks Conner for sharing this enormous moment. I haven´t realized how great is your performance in this specific song, although I have it with 5 stars on my list, but seeing you playing is another dimension. So gratefull.
Carousel was my fave song of 2020, but Strain quickly became a close 2nd. The fact that they follow each other on Virus had me out in the car a lot just so I could boost the sound AND get the impact of both whilst cruisin'. And looking unnecessarily ecstatic.
@@evilasiobjr it looks like there are rumors of him leaving. Not sure entirely, but it sounds like people are thinking it because of his lack of presence in the V/V combo. I’m hoping this isn’t true and he comes back in with a vengeance. Something like Aquarius. They wouldn’t be the same without him :(
Oh, he was present in vector, remember him talking about the matrixbrute and wanting to sound as analog. He was removed from Hakens company in 2020 and has been ignored by the band for a full year
Interesting choice in guitar picks. If I'm not mistaken, he's using a Dunlop Tortex 0.60mm pick (the orange one). Pretty thin for such thick bass strings. A strategic choice?
@@connergreen3421 So your career as a birthday musician won't be skyrocketing anytime soon. No worries, just stick to playing bass for Haken. You're doing a pretty good job.
@@connergreen3421 Nickel? NOOOOOO!! I've developed a nickel allergy, so I've been switching all my basses to stainless or coated strings 🙄💩🤣 Thank you so much for the reply!!
@@guitfidle Oh noooooo! Luckily, Dingwall stainless strings are fantastic too. Plus, they have slightly less tension in the lower strings, so you can get some more growl if so desired. Good luck with the search!
@@connergreen3421 oh hey, I didn't know they made stainless! I wonder if those would fit on my BTB though.... Time for a little research. Thanks Conner!!
@@connergreen3421 have you ever tried thumb picks? I've done a couple songs where I wanted the attack of a pick on parts, but used fingers for the rest. I found a thumb pick worked really well for this- it was out of the way enough that I could still use my thumb to anchor against the pickup if I wanted. Much easier than getting a pick in and out of your fingers.
Wow, great video! Listened to this song before and never picked up on that. Although my favorite moment like this is in the Visions album, and would love to see you discuss it. At 2:44 in Premonition, a song with no lyrics plays a cool little rythem, that later resurfaces at the end of the album in the lyrics of Visions at 15:23.
My absolute favourite song of them since release. But doesnt he play it differently in the song at 09:52. He hits multiple notes here while on the record it sounds like he only hits the accents?
