The Unwritten Chapters resumes with a 45-minute epic, as Iain Macmillan takes us back to 2005 and his first spell on the mighty Wellington Country Park, a venue that was to become synonymous with the big-carp scene over the next 10 years.
Tong talks about the man who blew the lid on Welly, Steve Renyard, and how the venue captivated him from the very beginning. We learn about Tong’s ABBA-fuelled journeys down to the venue, the “yummy mummies” that trained in the park, as well as the interesting characters that fished there and their various idiosyncrasies, in particular Dave Fuidge!
Tong also explains how he had to adapt from the spot fishing he’d become so accustomed to in Oxfordshire to zone fishing at Welly, introducing big beds of boilies with a throwing stick. Why was the ‘Hole in the Bush’ so good to him, and why couldn’t Mike Willmott let Tong claim his first UK 40lb-plus common?
