Depends on a lot a factor.They are manually placing the bait after looking around where there is no weed/silt, in normal circumstances where you are fishing from shore or boat without getting in water you have no idea whether the bait is accessible to the fish or not, pop ups work. Also looks like this is a commercial lake/pond where lot of people fish with pop ups so fish might have developed a intuition to avoid anything that resembles a pop-up

@@ninetailedfox503 that’s true, they could have used a hinged stiff rig and pinned the pop up much much closer to the deck. I usually only pop mine a inch off the bottom but I’m realizing pop ups are better suited for winter when fish are slow and kind of groggy. As far as the baiting goes in normal circumstances you should be leading around, or tossing out a mini rake to get an idea what you are fishing over. So bait presentation doesn’t really matter. you spod over silt, you spod over weed, you spod over gravel. the only thing that changes is maybe the kinds of things you spod. I wouldn’t do 22mm Boilies in silt, but I’d do 10mm or chops with sweet corn and seed to create a flutter down effect that won’t bury itself. Pair that with a silt rig and a small light bottom bait and you can still match the hatch. I only fish for wild carp technically due to the fact I’m in the USA. Unfortunately there are no commercial fisheries. So it doesn’t really matter pop up or bottom bait they have never seen a boilie either way. This is unless it’s a park pond where other carp fisherman go. But then it’s usually packbait and corn so a boilie takes a little more time to get picked up but seems to attract bigger fish.

switched to wafters on my local reservious, 8 fish lost 2, the week before on popups i had 1 fish. I know what i am using from now on!!!
