I've mentioned it before, but it bears repeating: their song *Only Yesterday* is a banger, and also more upbeat (it won't make you cry :-). Another really good one that's slightly more somber, but very pretty, is *For All We Know.*
Wanted to let you know, Karen played the drums, but her voice was so good and big they waned her to come out front to sing. People were never really happy with her looks and she struggled with keeping weight off even though she was thin, for years she had got so under weight she was like a skeleton and sadly passed away at the age of 32 and I grew up watching them on Tv, so when I hear her or see her videos I can't help but break down into tears and I am a senior male. Tragic read this please. Karen Carpenter/Age at death 32 years 1950-1983 Early on the morning of February 4, 1983, while staying in her parents home in Downey, Karen suffered a deadly heart attack, brought on by the physiological stresses placed on her system by the disease whose name soon entered the public consciousness: anorexia nervosa. She was only 32 years old.
Karen and Richard perform "Hurting Each Other" on "The Carol Burnett Show," January 19, 1972. This was two weeks after the single had been released. Karen was 21 years old at the time.
@@WilliamSmith-mc6vb Ummm, very true.Celine Dion isn't bad but nowhere near Karen Carpenter talent and you've got to be kidding about Mariah Carey. Her annoying, screeching voice is just painful to listen to.
@@zigman8550 We all have our opinions. But to say that no one comes close to Karen is absurd. Her voice was one of a kind and unique with her contralto tone. I think that even Barbara Striesand was comparable in sounding great. I am talking about the ladies that do not need auto tune. As you know, Richard was very good at altering Karen's voice by making it louder than it really was.
@@paulk9985 So Richard did not alter Karen's singing to add anything to her recording songs or no female that has ever been a singing artist come close to her as far as being able to sing without the help of auto tune?
Great stuff. My favorite reaction song continues to be "Superstar", where Karen reduces EVERY reactor to tears as soon as she sings "Long ago..." One of the great voices of all time imo.
Great review. This amazing singer and her very talented brother had numerous great songs. Try "For All We Know" or "It's Gonna Take Some This Time"- hits indeed for a reason. Enjoy this beautiful journey D1!
Perhaps the greatest expression of Karen’s extraordinary voice - unshowy, velvet-smooth but ineffably sorrowful - was on Hurting Each Other. She fills the ostensibly upbeat opening lines with sadness, the drop in temperature at the end of the chorus - as she slowly sings “without ever knowing why” - is authentically shiver-inducing.
Also, like many of their songs, there's a tinge of optimism...they are both gladly willing to give their entire lives to one another, and the outro line expresses an interest in overcoming the hurtful ways. The complications of love put beautifully and so effectively into 2:30 of pop perfection, that's how the Carpenters do it...
Karen Carpenter was ONE OF A KIND! HER VOICE WAS, AND WILL ALWAYS BE ICONIC! And YES! THIS SONG MOVES ME TO TEARS EVERYTIME I HEAR IT! And Karen sings it to PERFECTION! REST IN PEACE KAREN CARPENTER! THE WORLD MISSES YOU!😘😞😍😦🙏
I know, the sadness can keep coming but in such a beautiful form. Let’s turn things around! One of my absolute favorite Carpenters songs, “For All We Know”.
Hi again, I just left a 9 year relationship due to verbal and emotional abuse . Best thing I ever did for me. I'm now happy, 4 months now. If you are hurting, get out, it's hard I know..I have lived it....
Rule #1 when you have found the perfect one. Never argue. It poisons the water and it is not worth it. After all, what are you arguing about in the first place? It's probably more about your ego and getting the upper hand than a really important issue to the world at large. If it is a mistake you'll both survive, unless you kill your relationship with nonsensical egotistical arguments. Your motto in a relationship should be: LET IT GO, they are more important to me! It is NOT selling out, it is facing the fact that you two cannot go around bashing your heads together if you want to last. It really is a choice between fighting to the death or them. Chose them! Whoever you are with, multiple opportunities to argue to the death will come, don't do it.
Carpenters request: "Bless the Beast and Children" (lovely forgotten gem without ripping your heart out) + "B'wana She No Home" (if you want something fun and unexpected)
This song makes me cry every time I hear it. The industry was so cruel to her about her weight and caused her to feel like she wasn't good enough the way she was. I think it was over one comment from her manager, and how she developed an eating disorder because of it. How much more can you hurt someone?
Thanks for the reaction. (In my opinion it's always better to watch a live version of Karen Carpenter; pitch perfect, effortless, and, in fact, she sounds best singing solo, unsupported by her own voice, or anyone else's, on background tracks.)
Speaking of female vocalists whose best sound is captured during their on stage performances, I'd be so pleased to see a DayOne reaction to this live version of "Guilty." The better quality video for this song is this one at the following link which happens to include a second tune. "Guilty" comes first. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OrJ_QAkeH50.html
Recommend Carpenters Sing a Song live video in Japan where she sings it in Japanese with a children's Japanese choir. Another one of Karen's many talents that will amaze you.
Could you please react to All You Get From Love is A Love Song. Great video available with a more playful side to Karen showing. Also as some others have mentioned, Only Yesterday, Yesterday Once More and For All We Know. Love your reactions to them.
Different genre but you might like Pat Benatar. The Carpenters really was some of the first music that I got into as a child hard to believe it's been that long ago.
Me again. 😄 Sweet Sweet Smile uploaded by XqueenringX Karen's smile is contagious in this one. You seemed a little lukewarm with Hurting Eachother. Truthfully it's not one of my favorites either. But I'm glad it's so popular with her fans.
LOVE Karen and love watching you react to her and hate to say it but love when the songs make you cry (I don't know why). I'd love to see you react to George Jones - He Stopped Loving Her Today.
Humans are imperfect. Only in the movies can two people have an intimate relationship and NEVER hurt the other. It just shows how hard you have to work at it to make it the best it can be. Love takes work, and you should enjoy the good parts so you can weather the bad parts.
first let me say what a beautiful heart you have, it shows. you should watch one or more of the carpenter biography videos which there are several. many of the songs karen sings are a mirror of her life. she was sad and lonely. learn about her life and then listen to the songs and your heart will break for her. all she wanted was to fall in love with someone who would love her but it never happened. her brother was an amazing musician who wrote & arranged all the songs but was jealous that karen got the attention. between her brother & mother they destroyed this beautiful soul. you may want to skip say goodby to love, that one will rip your heart out once you know her story.
Please do “Love is Surrender” by Carpenters. It’s short and very different than their other stuff, but it’s cool and has a great message! It’s also upbeat and won’t make you cry. Lol
This was toward the end for Karen. You will, if you look closely, that Karen is becoming extremely thin. Anorexia has begun to take its toll, at this point. So sad, she was so beautiful, with so much love to give, and with the voice of an Angel. There will NEVER be another Karen Carpenter! RIP sweet Angel!
