In Romeoville by the isle a la cache you have carp and some channel cats and the river flows clean. the only issue you almost need a small boat to get to the hard to reach spots.
@ Charles Canty, I looked up the regs on the IL DNR website. They say no discharge of a bow on, across or along side a public road way. However this would be under the bridge. I sent a question to the DNR for further guidance to the answer of your question. When I get a response I'll let you know! Thanks for watching! Tony
Kush Try throwing out a few handfuls of Corn to chum the area you are fishing. That helps bring the Carp up. If you are in an area with a lot of Bluegills, they tend to eat the chum, so if you aren’t getting any Carp bites within 45 min to an hour of chumming, throw some more out. Another way to combat the Bluegills eating the corn is to chum heavier then normal. In most places a couple handfuls is fine, but for example we fish Carp at Waubonsie Lake Park quite a bit where the Gills are over abundant. We will often throw half a can of corn to 3/4 of a can of corn out. Good luck fishing and thanks for watching!
Nightcrawlers work fine as well. Im farther North then these gentalmen, but run into plenty slob Carp on worms when the artificial bite for Pike and Bass is slow. Used to get Bullheads all the time but it seems that the Channel Cat have eaten most of them? You'll run into other Rough Fish too. Fish on
@@vaughnmild4467 say , where might I catch some crap ( December 2020 ) , I am within the Matteson , Illinois - area , but will travel for good fishing 👈

Country Dirt Kid Sorry for the delay in replying to you. We get so many comments over 6 seasons of Spot On Fishing that we miss some here and there. We try to go through periodically and make sure we haven’t missed any. As far as Carp go, they will definitely slow down in cold water, but we have caught them through the ice and we also target them through the ice on lakes they reside in as well. The nice thing about river fish is they are always fighting current so they burn calories all year long swimming in the current. So winter Carp are more active then lake Carp during the winter months. There are several tournaments every winter on the DesPlaines River for them. Thanks so much for watching! We truly appreciate it!

Thanks for this great video Tony. I was born, raised, and lived in Joliet the first 32 years of my life, and was proud to live there. I only regret not knowing about the great carp fishery right there in downtown. What types and pound test were you guys using for your mainlines for those carp? It's funny, because I now live in Aurora just about 2 miles from that Lake Patterson you also did a video on. After finding out how much fun it is to catch carp, I'm trying to find some good waters here in the southwest suburbs to find them. Have agreat day Tony, and thanks again!
Hey Ray, thanks for the comment. I have to admit Carp can sure be fun to catch! In the river we generally run heavier line. I was using P-Line CXX in 12lb test. Very abrasion resistant. Mike and Corey run heavier. Usually 14 or 17. Also don't be afraid to try Carp fishing on Patterson! They are in there. And there is some big ones too! Also the Fox River around Aurora and Montgomery have great Carp populations as well.
Ray Nickel Oh sorry, I forgot one last thing. I noticed that it can get pretty weedy out at Patterson. Is there any depth to the lake, or open water where I can cast without getting it lost in the weeds where the fish can't get to it.
Patterson does get very weed choked. As far as shore fishing access goes, your best bet is to the right of the boat ramp to the bridge in the corner. Just off the weed edge there it drops quickly to 12 or 13 feet. The main lake basin off the ramp itself drops down to about 25 to 27 feet in the middle. We will have a couple more Carp shows coming up. One we are working on is a winter time carp show on the river. The other will be filmed this summer and that is on fishing Carp in lakes and ponds. Thanks and Merry Christmas to you as well!
Spot on Fishing Holy Cow! I would have never guessed it would have a spot that deep. That's sounds awesome. Look forward to your shows Tony. Keep Rockin'! Ray
Metra f40phm-2 Actually the noise you hear is the barges that run up and down the river more then anything. At one point we were close to the train trestle though and one made it in the show LOL. Thanks so much for watching and thanks for dropping us a comment!
Yep thats joliet for you cant even record a full video without having the cops going after someone smh great job guys i caught a huge cat there before but it was a different spot just down a little ways I threw it back im scared to eat anything from outta that water
Nicole Shirley Thanks for watching! We’ve never kept fish from the DesPlaines either. So many barges and other pollutants find their way into that system. The Fox River has been fine for keeping some Walleyes. We’ve kept Sauger’s from the Illinois River. They were OK, but not as good as they normally are. Not sure I would do that anymore.
Jesus Gallardo Due to weight configurations and rigs, plus strong river currents at that particular section of the DesPlaines, it is a must for proper hook penetration.

Malcolm Walters I believe it, the European Carp gear is phenomenal. So much gear that I never knew existed. Thanks so much for watching and thanks for the comment.
I moved from UK and live in S. Illinois. I fish the Ohio river for grass carp and commons. I fished with Cory Bohmann last year in Tennessee. The man doesn't sleep at night!
VooDoo2049 Wow, didn’t see this comment till just now. Just 2 years late, LOL! The bait bags that you see used for the carp bait dissolve in the water. There are no remnants of the bag left in the water, nor once dissolved does it pose any threat to the waterway. We would NEVER do anything that would harm the environment.
