Hi Marty, Thanks for the video I have just started down this track and had the same issue. Your video solved my issue but as I already had 6 Wired controllers now been limited to 4. using wireless. As the extender allows the CU to recognize P1 wired Controller and not allow P1 to be coded to a Car must be due to the wiring connection. I have written to Carrera for a clarification/fix. I don't have an issue with the Carrera style controller, I also have the Smartrace App connection which allows you to set all controller Speed/Brake/Fuel except for Fuel on P5 and P6 due to the Carrera CU software design which is yet to be fixed.
Great video Marty. I run four wireless and two wired. I have the TrueSpeed for my wired and they are excellent. I recently added two Frankenslot wireless controllers to my track because the Carrera wireless lane switch button seems to break. Plus eventually you need to replace the rechargeable batteries in the Carrera which are specific to Carrera. The Frankenslot takes two AAA batteries which are readily available. The Frankenslot are far superior to the Carrera, but are three times the price.
JayGrizo.. you are too kind good sir. I am just trying to add to the amazing content those guys have been creating for a long time. Seriously, I would be just doing laps in my basement if it wasn’t for the knowledge share out there right now for the Slot Car Community.
I bought a digital 1/24 set with 2 wireless controllers. Then I added 2 more wireless and a wired RamJet. I'll probably pick up another RamJet when I'm flush. Great vid Marty, keep it up.
@@Clearwater124 Hi Clearwater, so, your Carrera wireless receiver is plugged into "Tower 1" on the control unit. What channels are your four wireless controller set to?
Great video, Marty. I was fortunate to learn the limitations of the wired controllers during my initial research last year, and that alone forced me to wait months for a wireless set to become available before beginning my journey. It's really a shame that there doesn't seem to be a cure. I only use the Carrera wireless, so I am curious on how other brands work, but I do know that I will only buy wireless, whichever brand it is. So far though, the 6 Carrera wireless controllers have all worked excellently. One strange bit of info on how I use them though: there is NO WAY that I can race using my thumbs Lol. As a kid, I had the AFX HO trigger controllers and that's the way I need to race. So, the way I race with Carrera's controllers: I hold them horizontally and race with my index finger, just as if the plunger were a trigger. I actually use the index finger on my other hand to change lanes, but that's just me, I could always just use another finger on the same hand to change lanes. Enjoy! Dennis
That sounds pretty convoluted. I know a cord sounds like just the worst thing ever........but the ramjet controller I got with a long cord is really no issue at all.................I watch guys at big races and lots have a corded controller............I think carrera charges a lot for their wireless controllers.
@@bradsanders6954 I guess the cords are great if you have disciplined racers, but if you've got kids or non experienced racers, the potential for someone running with their controller in the heat of racing to reslot a car is high, possibly doing some damage in the process.
@@All-ScaleSlotCars Yeah I can see that. With what these cars cost mine arent loaned out to little kids.......+ theres no room to be running where my track is,track takes up all available space.
@@bradsanders6954 My oldest grandson is only 2.5 and has been racing on my track for a year already Lol. When he comes to the house, the first thing he does is point to the slot car room. I have no say now, Lol!
Carerra supports six wireless controllers all at the same time. I think it’s nice that you can mix and match wired and wireless on the Carerra Digital system. I’ve used two wireless with four wired and I have four wireless and two wired running right now. The support on how to configure this is very weak and there’s no videos that I could find. The wired extension doesn’t eliminate anything but it does capture three controller numbers. So all you have to do is reconfigure your wireless controllers to the numbers not used by the wired extension.
I was able run 2 wireless and 4 wired Carrera controllers so that 6 cars can race at the same time using the controller extension box. This is how I did it at first until I went with 6 wired RamJet controllers with extended cords. It's been a while since I've run the wireless controllers but I believe channel 2 and 6 were the only channels that the wireless controllers would connect to. So 1,3,4 (on the extension box) & 5 (on the control unit) had wired controllers pulled into them. The two wireless controllers were set to channel 2 and 6. It worked great for me and the Carrera wired and wireless controllers worked well also. I just prefer the trigger pistol grip controller and worried about the batteries not being charged on the wireless controllers and if they would go dead during a race. The wired controllers are always ready to go. Hope this works for everyone else.
Rick, that would be fantastic news! I tested a ton of different combinations and could never get it to work. I will test this week and report back! You may have saved us all!
Why do you assume it failed. Marty posted an Update! that states the same thing I said worked for me in my post. I'm not sure if someone named Greg gave him the same work around as me or if he just got my name wrong. But Marty's Update shows how it can be done, which is what worked for me. :-)
@@rickrideout I assumed so because I didn't know about the video update. Thought he would update it here. I'm glad to be wrong. But I'm intrigued that you aren't even using the wireless anymore. Are the wired RamJet the way to go? Just getting into this, have yet to buy starter set.
@@chancekillion Wireless is the easiest way to go but more expensive and they work as good as wired. But changing the batteries will always be extra work. So I went with wired so I wouldn't have to worry if the batteries needed to be replaced before a big race. My wired controllers are always ready to go. You'll have to make that decision for yourself.
Keith, wireless is so handy. I do love my trigger controllers, but the freedom of wireless is so nice. I have one of the Frankenslot Wireless controllers and if you can find them.. they are the way to go for digital if you still want wireless.
Great info, i am considering switching from Scalextric (ARC pro, wireless controllers) to Carrara. I really don’t like the type of controller Carrera is using, but I will consider using the truespeed controllers instead. Can you explain in more detail what you did to extend the length of the cord? Keep on posting this kind of content!
I will make a video of what I did to make it work.. in short form.. the Carrera plug is an offset plug.. and standard telephone is not.. but the only difference is where the latch is located. I took an xacto knife and shaved the female plug to allow room for the offset to fit. It doesn’t snap in, but it fits tight. It was a temporary fix until I could find the offset rj jacks. It will make more sense when I post a video. I will try to work on that this weekend. I do like the truespeed controllers. They are great! I believe there might be a wireless solution that works with Carrera Digital (Frankenslot or SlotIt?)
German technology. Not an issue with Scalextric Arc Pro. Can run and have run 6 wireless cars all at the same time. So if you are thinking of going digital slot car racing, consider this.
Hi Marty. This is a great video. I am looking to upgrade to a Truspeed and/or Ramjet controllers. I have been frustrated with the wireless controllers and the level of control of the cars. I guess I could use 4 wireless and two wired controllers. Your video was very helpful in understanding the limitations when mixing the two types of controllers. Any thoughts on Truspeed vs Ramjet?
Both are great controllers. We have two Truspeed controllers and a Professor Motor wireless controller that is great as well! I recommend them. 👍 we barely use the Carrera digital now unless we are racing 4 or more cars.
I got a Ramjet controller before my track even got here...........can be ordered with an extra long cord ,it works great so far.......the long cord is unoticeable .....visitors get the carrera cheapo controllers...............................this all shows how it can run into 1000's of dollars eventually. 1 piece at a time.
@@twolinesslotcars Im liking the piranha motor in the carrera cars, they make the car deceivingly fast....Quiet and smooth but really get moving quick.............still easier to drive than a Slot it car...................although the new Jaguar slot it car I got is more civilized somehow.
@@twolinesslotcars Our group of 4 guys each have their own track so we rotate visiting tracks and you must bring your own controller. We also race 4 identical cars like an IROC series…. That way the only factor that’s different is the driver himself. Really enjoyed your video!!

Hi Marty, first,.... your Neumann KMS-105 sounds great :) Anyway, on my Carrera Digital track, are you absolutely positive that I can run four wireless, AND two wired controllers as you mentioned at 7:45 in your video? Thank you!!!!
@@twolinesslotcars Grrrrrrreat! :) You are a good man to be so good at answering messages on your channel like I do on mine :) And for using Neumann :) I am assuming that Rick Rideout's observation and testing was good but does the wireless receiver still plug into Tower 1? And where does the Extension box plug into? It sure would be nice if Carrera would shed "some" light on this but I know why they don't... because they want us to buy six wireless controllers ;*)
