Moment's after being embarrassed at Prom, Carrie (Sissy Spacek) uses her powers to begin terrorizing her classmates.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
This classic horror movie based on Stephen King's first novel stars Sissy Spacek as Carrie White, a shy, diffident teenager who is the butt of practical jokes at her small-town high school. Her blind panic at her first menstruation, a result of ignorance and religious guilt drummed into her by her fanatical mother, Margaret (Piper Laurie), only causes her classmates' vicious cruelty to escalate, despite the attentions of her overly solicitous gym teacher (Betty Buckley). Finally, when the venomous Chris Hargenson (Nancy Allen) engineers a reprehensible prank at the school prom, Carrie lashes out in a horrifying display of her heretofore minor telekinetic powers. Many films had featured school bullies, but Carrie was one of the first to focus on the special brand of cruelty unique to teenage girls. Carrie's world is presented as a snake pit, where the well-to-do female students all have fangs -- even the reticent Sue Snell (Amy Irving) -- and all the males are blind pawns, sexually twisted around the fingers of Chris and her evil cronies. The talented supporting cast includes John Travolta, P.J. Soles, and William Katt. One of the genre's true classics, the film was followed by a sequel in 1999, as well as by a famously unsuccessful Broadway musical adaptation that starred Betty Buckley, the movie's gym teacher, as Margaret White.

Batman And Robin I think they meant senseless violence for the sake of having gore. There isn’t much gore in Carrie aside from the blood, and they aren’t killing just to be like “OMG LOOK THOSE PEOPLE ARE DYING!!!”, it’s to advance the story. Carrie killed everyone at the prom to show a major turning point for her character, she is no longer the victim but the villain. Margaret’s death is a bit bloody but it’s because she attack Carrie first. Carrie also died in a grand scene at the end because of her regret of killing her mother. Sorry if I was rambling.

that's the violins from Psycho. Brian DePalma put those in several of his movies in the 70's and 80's because he idolizes Hitchcock, and tries to make his movies as much in Hitchcock style as he can.

What many people don't seem to realize is that a lot of the "laughing" students weren't actually laughing. This was in Carrie's mind. You can tell because not too many frames earlier, the students all have looking of shock, dismay, and disapproval on their faces, and then almost IMMEDIATELY after from Carrie's POV, they are laughing uncontrollably. Not to mention Ms Collins is laughing in her vision. This is a dead giveaway because we all know that Ms Collins would never laugh, she would be FURIOUS. She sees everyone laughing hysterically because of the idea her mother instilled in her head (as we hear so clearly). I think this is a perfect depiction of the dreadful teenage combination of paranoia and insecurity. However, this is a bit confusing because in the shots not from her POV, some students are laughing. However I still believe the idea here is that most students weren't actually happy about what happened, Carrie was so upset over the prank that that's how she saw it.

It always reminds me of the scene from the original Godzilla (1954), he rampages Tokyo, leaves nothing but burning buildings, and you have an eerily similar frame of Godzilla just leaving the city, with nothing but havoc behind him, and shot at almost the same distance as in Carrie.

ReviewCam how would you feel if your date was prom queen along with you and got drenched in pig's blood. Everyone at the prom except Mrs Collins the gym teacher and Tommy deserved to die and Chris and Billy deserved to die. Tommy and Carrie would have been a very great and wonderful couple and if they got married and have kids they would have to be far far far away from Margaret the crazy woman because I also read Margaret on wiki and when Carrie was like 2 or 3 months old she used her telikenetic power to cradle her baby bottle while drinking it and Margaret wanted to kill her but was weak never loving Carrie ever. Carrie would have been a great wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother had she lived.

Being Bullied is terrible and Chris should not have went through it especially when she saw how overjoyed Carrie was and she was having fun she would have had a very great and wonderful future I be optimistic which is not a very bad thing. I felt bad for Carrie she was going to say something nice about them then it was ruined by the bucket with the pig's blood and it fell on Carrie and ruined her flowers, crown, hair, dress so I felt devastated for Carrie because they are teenagers turning to young adults what they did to Carrie was very childish 100 percent.

The actor for Carrie is just perfect. Her looks make her look demonic and evil, but in reality she’s just an innocent girl who wants to be accepted in school. The actor for her is better than the others in all the remakes. Her creepy looks are enough to send chills down your spine. Carrie is pretty, but she looks terrifying with her eyes wide open. Definitely the best movie ever.

She unfortunately lost to Faye dunaway for network. But of all the Oscar nominees for best actress in the last century , this performance is one of the best. Every female teenager who is bullied can relate to her completely. I like the shades of innocence, tragedy, wrath and horror in the film

This Carrie was more scary looking than all the new ones. And it looked more realistic even back then more than now cause they didn't have all the new special effects bs that makes it look like an animated cartoon. The actor was alot more believable as well, she looked like she could do that and real life as good as she played the part. The new carrie chicks are to dramatic like hokis pokis action lol! The old carrie was so smooth and calm but intense at the same time,,, great acting!

What I love most about this version as compared to others is the slow burn to carnage. People initially worried about the doors being locked. Then people freaked out by the hose. Lots of running around and chaos and a few people who appear to be injured, but you get the sense even by halfway through the scene that most of them still aren't actually fearing for their life yet. It isn't until the electrical pops that the auditorium really starts to feel legitimately dangerous. Kudos to De Palma for slowing the pace of the terror to really milk each moment.

Sometimes, a face showing no emotions is just way scarier. Emotions like pain, hurt, anger... they show we have feelings, that we are mortal and like everyone else. What always disturbs me about this scene is that there are probably a lot of people in this prom who were innocent. Either they were trying to help Carrie (like Sue or Miss Collins) or had nothing to do with her bullying. And they still either died or survived with the trauma of what happened.

I love the contradiction of Carrie looking the most gory, it’s like you’re looking for the blood on the others and the camera turns back to her and you go, “there it is” and then you realise she’s the one manipulating it. It’s so clever

I've been saying for ages, in regards to regular bullying like this film or that story we heard of someone stabbing a bully with a compass on the bus because he'd had enough, as well as to bigger stuff like the IRA and the French revolution - you push someone too hard, for too long, sooner or later they're going to snap, and when they do, they'll come back at you with everything you've been throwing at them.

Those were some demented kids at that school. Two things about this film that gives that impression is Chris was willing to slaughter an animal and kill Tommy all for a cruel joke. Also when Chris and her boyfriend look through the window to see their fellow students in danger and don't even do anything about but run away.

I remember a girl named Matilda had that power but she didn't use it hurt people she used her Telekinesis for good and stood up against to a mean principal who tortured her students by throwing them, putting them inside a closet, and scolded at them harshly.

The way she looks always creeped me out as a kid and even today. I remember reading the book when I got older and getting to the part with the pigs blood (you know what happens after that) I was getting those flashback scenes from the movie as I reading and had to pause every now and then. Sissy Spacek did a great performance and it still gets under my skin still to this day.
