Carrier furnace does not turn on Code 23 "Pressure Switch Did Not Open" I fixed it myself for free.

10/3/22- my heat did not turn on last night and it was cold here in Chicagoland. Before I called a technician and spend $150 I decided to check out my furnace myself. The furnace was completely dead and even the fan did not turn on. I checked for power and then found out it was blinking code 23 for "Pressure Switch Did Not Open". Then I noticed a pinched pressure tube has been pinched since initial installation 15 years ago.

I actually pulled my one line off......and blew into it lightly. Seemed like it dislodged something. When blowing (lightly) from the other end of the hose.....you should be able to hear the pressure switch click. Meaning it is working. Also have had issues with mine not staying lit. Check the flame sensor.....and if it still shuts off.....make sure that your pipes are not full of water from the condensation (like mine was). I just lifted up the pipe a couple of inches from inside the house and it drained any excess water to the outside at the outlet. Also make sure outlet outside is not free of ice. All has been good ever since. Nice video.

Thank you for the video, I have the same furnace however it was installed upside down. For the life of me I could not find the switch or a video showing its location, whoever installed it ran tubes right over it blocking it completly. Much appreciated.

They make downdraft furnaces and updraft furnaces. The difference is that one looks upside down compared to the other. Generally one is made to mount in the attic while the other is made for a basement, hence the down/updraft

Those silicone hoses are stiffer and less likely to kink when cold or at room temp but when they heat up they get more flexible and kink easily. As theyvget older they harden causing them to permanently adapt in shape according to the stresses normally applied to them, causing your kink. But generally the obstruction they are referring to have nothing to do with those hoses because they run on negative pressure created by the venturi effect created by the induction motor, which means that if your cold air intake pipe or your exhaust pipe get obstructed you will lose that venturi vacuum in those little pressure switch hoses you are playing with.... and no they dont have gas running through them so next time just pop them off one fitting at a time while your induction fan is running and use a lighter near the tube opening to see if theres enough vacuum to suck your lighter flame in. If not then try to shop vac your intake and exhaust pipes and see if it sucks up the birdnest or dead mouse plugging up your pipe.

I would highly recommend you check the white condensation plastic part below and clean it out. Mine was stopped up with all kinds of black gunk that collected over the years and was making my furnace shut off into safety mode because of all the water that collected and did not drain.

Mine was exactly the same as yours!! Crimped tube!

I would check the secondary on that unit. Bet you it’s plugged. The condensate traps on those Bryant’s tend to backup into the collector box as well.

It's going to act up again. Theres a reason the switch stuck, and it's not because of that pinched tube. The pinched tube would make it a code 31, did not close. I think your control board has a sticking inducer relay.

The furnace fired right up as soon as I loosened up the tube that was pinched. I might have to replace the switch and hopefully that is not too expensive.

@@chaicharin just wait to see what happens. Code 23s are rare.

I cant get to the first step of turning it off. There is no obvious power switch that I can find. On the left there is the gas line, no power switch, on the right no power switch as in your video, on the bottom of the unit there is a box, but no switch there either.

Mine has a light switch on the side which is code in my area. I guess you could pull the switch in your electrical box to shut the power off. However when you take the door off the unit should power off as well since it should have a button that stays down in the on position when your door is on it.

I’ve had the error code 23 happen a couple times this past week and have an HVAC tech out to do diagnostics but they havent been able to locate an issue and the error continues to periodically happen. When I turn off power to the furnace for 5 minutes it resets the code and the furnace eventually restarts. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this intermittent malfunctioning?

U can do it yourself trust me i do hvac but it’s pretty easy from what your saying sounds like first check the tube and the switch to make sure nothing is blocking it u can give the tube a blow to get any kind of debris that could be in there if that doesn’t work just replace the pressure switch its like 25$ part like he said and if it still doesn’t work and ur getting same code id then get a tech there again.

Glad I could help. I'm going to be replacing the blower motor and wheel in my basement Carrier 58MCA100-18116 and doing a detailed video on it. It has been making crazy noises and sometimes stops working and makes a burning motor smell.
