We have a beautiful, Canadian Crokinole board and EVERYONE we've introduced it to over--uh, dunno, ten or more years--has loved it. Like, rabid, drunken, ohmigawducuntplayanothergame loved it. I faffed around on Carrooka until your review, then ordered one. Added the proper spots & stripes discs because, y'know, home rules 9-ball?
Fellow Canadian here. I have a cheap Crokinole board, but looking to upgrade to a better one. Suggestions for a Canadian Crokinole manufacturer? And, after watching this review, I am very interested in a Carrooka table as well, but once I check out the Pounds to Canadian dollars conversion...it gets pricey. Close on $450 Canadian to have it shipped here. Wondering how you are enjoying yours thus far?
@@jsa6261 Sorry, no recommendations--the one who made my board went out of business years ago. Really enjoying the Carrooka board, and I'm glad I went for it! 😄
@@browe Brilliant. Thanks. Glad you are enjoying it. Which Carrooka board did you end up getting? The original (snooker) version or the newer (Pool 8) version?
Hey Matt! I just received my Carrooka board today after wanting to play it immensely after watching both of your videos. So thanks for setting me back $300... Honestly, I was just waiting for the British pound to take a dump to make it a more reasonable purchase, so I've been keeping a close eye on the market to see when it would drop enough for me to buy it. Thanks to Liz Truss, the pound took a big enough hit, and then after she left her post as PM the pound started creeping back up so I quickly hopped online figuring this was my chance. And now it's finally here! Can't wait to play it with my friends, and without your ringing endorsement I wouldn't have been so frivolous. Cheers from California, mate!
@michaelzipkin Strangely enough, my housemate and I once did the same thing when the dollar tanked in the early noughties against the pound. Although we were stocking up on porn DVDs 😂
Thanks for the video. I've been looking at this game. Problem is, looking at the playthroughs, the breaks are mostly 1 pot. Maybe a red and a colour (on the bigger board). Building up breaks is what snooker is all about but here I don't see that happening. The difficulty is high. Maybe the smaller table is a bit easier? Still, this is what has put me off.
As with most things it comes down to practice. Of course it doesn’t play exactly like snooker or pool but with a bit of practice decent breaks are possible. Im sure in the future if this game increases in popularity we’ll see all sorts of amazing breaks and shots. It’s an amazing game that I’m never getting rid of.
My board arrived today and while we do miss a lot we are already building up some nice 10-20 point breaks. I've been playing Carrom for a while though.
This looks the dog’s bollocks - I’m a big snooker fan and this would be right up my alley. That price is eye-watering though - will give you £50 and a luxury biscuit selection box for yours. Sound fair?
Hi, I absolutely love crokinole which is such an accessible and fun game. I've also got carrom but don't play that as much, as it's too difficult for most people (and the board weighs a ton). Carrooka looks great and pretty good value (given championship crokinole boards are now more than £400). The big question for me - is it easier to make pots in carrooka than carrom? Best wishes
@@BoardGameBollocks Thanks. Just saw your review of the carrooka pool 8 - looks perfect. Just ordered one! Only downside is delivery not available until July. Many thanks for highlighting this great looking game!
Takes a while to get used to as the easy shots are the ones that hug the perimeter. As with all these games it takes a great deal of skill to pull off the shots you think you can make but yea it’s easier than carrrom (for me at least) as the striker stays where it is each turn.
What puts me off about Carrooka is the build quality. Have you ever played on a premium Carrom/Crokinole board and can compare the experience? this board looks a bit scratchy/unsmooth relative to the Woodestic level Crokinole/Carrom that I'm used to
My board is top notch. I have a premium crokinole and a decent Carrom board and they on par. Have you played Carooka? These are handcrafted by a bloke in his workshop, remember. When Carrooka inevitably becomes a world wide sport then I’m sure you’ll see Tournament boards in production by a global professional manufacturer.
Great review! Interested in selling your Carrooka to me here in the States? I cannot get a response from the people that make this ! Maybe they are defunct already?
Do you have a Crokinole board and do you think it is still worth it to have one of these beside a Crokinole board? Provided one can call Bezos his uncle.
It’s a different game. Depends how much you like snooker/pool really. It’s without doubt a luxury item but we really like it. I’m crap at crokinole so this is better for me.
